Aseyin laid to rest as Makinde promises continuous support

Aseyin of Iseyin

The late Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Abdul Ganiy Salaudeen, was laid to rest yesterday.

His remains were interred at Igbo Itan. The Itan cemetery is the place where traditional rulers are laid to rest.

As the body moved from the palace to the cemetery, which was about three kilometres away, traditionalists made appeasements.

Women were denied entrance into the monarch’s final resting place.

It was gathered that some traditional rites and rituals involved might not be permissible for women.

Sources said the final laying to rest might run till midnight or early morning of Tuesday (today).

Shops, business centres and markets were shut while the ceremony lasted.

The roads around the palace were deserted by traders.

Islamic clerics held prayer sessions at the inner field of the palace.

The event was attended by Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi, commissioners and other top government functionaries.

Governor Makinde assured the people that the death of the Aseyin would not affect the developmental projects his administration had embarked on in Iseyin since 2019.
