Minister of State for Power Goddy Jedy-Agba has reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving sustainable energy target in 2030.
He spoke in Lagos at the seventh Nigeria Energy Forum (NEF) 2022, with the theme: ‘Energising Economic Growth and Sustainability’.
Represented by his Special Technical Assistant, Gabriel Lorsase, he said the ministry had renewal energy initiatives to achieve the target.
He said: “We are in collaboration with German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), funded by European Union.
“This is to serve as a hub for data-driven electrification planning and implementation. The project aims to enable and foster investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and data-driven electrification planning and implementation.
“The Federal Government and Siemens have signed an agreement for Electrification Roadmap.”
Canadian High Commissioner in Nigeria James Christoff said Canada would assist Nigeria in achieving power sector transformation.
Christoff, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Teshome Nkrumah said Nigeria should create an environment where economic incentives aligned with goals.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) Tinuade Sanda said the company had committed huge investment in construction, reconstruction and network augmentation.
Sanda, represented by Aik Alenkhe, chief human resources officer, said the company was exploring off-grid power supply options to improve supply to its customers.
Chairman of NEF 2022 Conference Oluwole Adeuyi said the focus this year was on boosting investment in climate-smart energy infrastructure, and transitioning to cleaner, efficient and economic energy solutions.
The conference was attended by stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, including Mr. Afolabi Akinrogunde, the acting chief executive officer, All On; and Acting Political and Economic Chief, United States Embassy in Nigeria, Briana Olson, among others.
