Tiv in Oyo seek govt’s attention

Ibadan

Tiv in Oyo State have lamented government neglect. They urged the state government to prioritise their welfare.

The Tiv, mainly from Benue State but living in Oyo State, said their population was more than that of a local government, adding that some of them had lived over 20 years in the state doing legitimate businesses and supporting the government towards the development of the state.

A statement signed by the President, Tiv Youths Development Association (TYDA), Benjamin Atotse and Secretary, Taveshima Joseph, an engineer; said: “We have excelled. As a peace-loving people, this is the time for us to be recognised by the government.”

The statement said the association had registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with registration number 170423, which would make relationship between the association and the government easier.

It said the aim of the association was to empower members with skill acquisition, help the needy, provide for their needs, reduce poverty, provide humanitarian services for orphans and the aged and help youths to be self-reliant.

“We have a good relationship with the people of Oyo State. They are accommodating and peace-loving, but we need more attention from the government.”

TYDA urged Governor Seyi Makinde to appoint one of its members in his Executive Council (Exco), pledging support towards the actualisation of his re-election bid.
