HACEY Health Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has partnered Access Bank on the need to empower and protect the girl child.

The foundation addressed journalists on 2022 International Day of Girl Child in Lagos.

One hundred and fifty girls from secondary schools in  Lagos were engaged in sexual health education and essay competition.

With this year’s  theme as Our Time Is Now – Our Rights, Our Future, International Day of Girl Child celebrates the power of girls and highlights their barriers, as declared by United Nations in 2011.

In her lecture on Addressing Challenges of the Girl Child, Executive Director of Hacey, Ms Rhoda Robinson, identified their challenges in Nigeria as gender inequality, violence, and social structures, among others.

“Since Hacey’s inception 15 years ago and working in communities and states, one of the main things we have seen that what affect girls’ are gender inequality.

Robinson noted: ‘’We have instances in our society structurally that prevents girls from being active members or decision-makers even in the family space and in communities.
