Lagos, GET to hold conference on health, biosecurity

The Lagos State Ministry of Health) Consortium has concluded plans to hold a three-day conference on One Health and Biosecurity at the Civic Centre, Lagos from the 2nd to the 4th of November in Lagos.

The conference, in its eighth edition, is being organized in partnership with the Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment (GET) Consortium.

Tagged; “Strengthening Health Security and Mitigating Biological Threats in Africa” the conference will play host to over 400 participants from over nine countries across the world.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi said that the conference is the fourth in a series of conferences organized by the State Government in partnership with GET, and the eight held around West Africa and the African continent by the consortium to help develop a bio-security road map and increase Africa continent resilience towards building capacity to deal with pathogens of high consequence.

He said “Lagos State government recognized early the need to improve preparedness against biological threats and this is why the State Government since 2015 has been collaborating with the GET consortium, World Health Organization, the United Nations, the ECOWAS through the West African Health Authority, the African Union and of course, the Federal government, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control and various donor agencies like the Gates Foundation..
