Gunmen have abducted a driver and 10 of his passengers from a commercial bus that departed Jos, Plateau State, en route Onitsha, Anambra State.

A source at the transport company said the bus left Jos on Friday at about 7am with 10 passengers but ran into the hoodlums at the Benue State border.

It was further learnt that the gunmen led the passengers into the bush and forced them to surrender their phones, while the driver was severely beaten for attempting to zoom off.

The source said the kidnappers have contacted the transport company in Jos, demanding a ransom of N5 million per passenger, and threatening to kill them if the money was not paid before yesterday.

It was equally said that the kidnappers had stopped calling the transport company, preferring to speak only with relatives of the abductees.

Families of the abductees have reportedly agreed to negotiate with the gunmen collectively rather than individually.
