Awoniyi set new scoring  record at Nottingham

Taiwo Awoniyi

Apart from scoring against his former club, Taiwo Awoniyi has set a new record at Nottingham Forest as the first player to score in his two Premier League start.

Against the backdrop of his Awoniyi’s goal against Liverpool on Saturday, the Nigerian netted in the 55th minute to inject life into Forest’s flailing Premier League campaign.

Awoniyi joined Forest during the summer transfer window for £17m and has been working hard to secure a permanent shirt in the team.

But the 25-year-old has been waiting patiently but on Saturday he was handed the chance for a starting line-up by Coach Steve Cooper.

And based on Cooper’s trust, Awoniyi terrorized Virgil van Dijk and he compensated for his starting line-up with the vital goal.

With the lone goal against Liverpool, Awoniyi has done something that no other Forest player has managed in the Premier League era.

According to Opta Joe, the Nigerian became the first Forest player to score in each of his first Premier League starts at the City Ground.

He has been described as a ‘finisher’ and he has certainly proved his worth when called upon on home soil.

Awoniyi would have hoped to have played more frequently. He was a regular for Union Berlin the last term and scored 18 goals in the Bundesliga.
