POSER: Nigeria needs credible leadership

POSER

•’We will hold Igbo leaders accountable’

A group, ‘People of Southeast Region (POSER), yesterday called for a credible leadership in the country.

The group also reiterated its plan to monitor Igbo in government to ensure that they perform and become accountable to the people.

Leaders of POSER, who visited the Lagos Office of Vintage Press, publisher of The Nation, yesterday called for peaceful coexistence in Lagos before, during and after next year’s polls.

It’s Global Leader, Phillips Obuesi, lamented that Igbo have been marginalised, not only by other parts of the country, but also by their kith and kin.

He was accompanied by the president of POSER, Chief Everest Ozonwoke, who said Nigeria will realise its potentials, if it is governed by credible leaders.

He said: “Igbo suffers from poor leadership. Among the ethnic groups, Igbo is least in holding their leaders accountable. We noticed the gap. Many Igbo leaders are not interested in the progress, and advancement of Igbo people.

“Nigeria is marginalising us. But, the little allocation we have got, how have our leaders utilised it? We are demanding performance, accountability from our leaders. Before we demand all these from other leaders, we must first of all demand it from our Igbo leaders.

“We will monitor the mandate given to our leaders in the Southeast. We are interested in the welfare of our people in Lagos.”

Ozonwoke, called for peaceful coexistence and harmony among Lagosians, said Lagos hosts the highest number of Igbo who now see the city as their second home.

He said POSER will continue to be involved in crisis resolution and peace moves to forge harmonious relationship in the state.
