Yoruba elders have reaffirmed their support for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
They urged Nigerians, particularly the Yoruba, to cast their votes for the APC candidate in 2023 presidential election.
The Yoruba leaders warned their compatriots not to allow the repeat of 1963 during the First Republic’s election saga, where about 40 per cent of the Yoruba were misled with their political co-travellers to the National Convention of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) to support Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and later ran back to Awolowo to seek forgiveness after the Premier had won the region’s election.
A statement by Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) National Treasurer Aremu Akindele lauded Awolowo for introducing free education, free health services for the poor.
It said Asiwaju Tinubu would also repeat the late Awolowo’s giant stride through massive development that has never been witnessed in any part of Nigeria, if elected.
“Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Prof. Banji Akintoye have spoken well. The YCE aligns with the two elder statements, believes and supports them.

“During the Second Republic, history wanted to repeat itself before Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim pulled out of the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP), which Alhaji Ibrahim had formed when he realised that it had been hijacked by the Igbo.
“Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim formed another party immediately, the Great Nigerian Peoples Party (GNPP), to rescue Nigerians who were progressive and see reasons with him from the bondage and domination of Igbo of the party he formed.”
Akindele said the leadership qualities which Asiwaju Tinubu exhibited since 1999 cannot be ignored.
According to him, Asiwaju Tinubu’s legacy speaks volumes in the areas of human development – by bringing people from the bottom to the peak of their lives; picking talents from different ethnic groups, among others.
The YCE National Treasurer said the APC candidate is capable, competent, efficient and effective in delivering infrastructural development anf economic revitalisation, if elected.
He added that the Yoruba nation cannot be misled again in 2023 because Nigerians need a leader like Asiwaju Tinubu to lead the nation to the Promised Land.
