A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, the Frontliners for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged the media to avoid partisanship in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.
The group, reacting to a fake news item disseminated about Tinubu by a national television station, advised the media to always adhere to the ethics guiding the noble profession.
It called for the need to always search for and uphold the truth in all circumstances and ensure fairness in reporting.

The statement conveying the reaction of the group reads: “We frown at the recent unwholesome behaviours of some media houses as reflected in obviously untrue and flawed stories calculated to damage the reputation of some politicians especially those in opposing camps.
“All reports should be subjected to proper investigation and painstaking professional examination of facts that political reporting, especially, requires.
“We note with dismay the resort to a subtle campaign of calumny by some media houses against Asiwaju is portraying journalism in a negative light.”
The group called on the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigeria Press Council (NPC), and all other regulatory and advisory authorities to ensure the prestige of the profession is preserved.
The group also restated its confidence in the capability of Tinubu to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria for good if elected as president.
