The Lagos State governorship candidate of Accord Party, Hakeem Dickson has spoken of plans to transform the state if he wins at the polls.
” I am going to be able to stand out 100 percent. There are so many promises made that have not been kept
On the recent statements by some non-indigenes that Lagos is no man’s land, Dickson said: ” To be honest with you, I don’t like that statement. Lagos belongs to Awori and Eko. When you say Southsouth, they say they are not Igbo. When you say Southeast, they say they are Igbo in the North, they are either Hausa or Fulani. But, Lagos belongs to us. The Federal capital then made it as if it is no man’s land. We are very liberal in accepting people. The statement is therefore 100 percent wrong. There are only 11 land owners in Lagos”.
The former Surulere Local Government boss promised to give adequate attention to traffic gridlock, insecurity, and population explosion.
” Look at the major road, there is only one link from Epe straight down to Marina. Look at the volume of people from that axis. Look at Alimosho, you can see that a lot of things are totally wrong. I am not happy, I am a Lagosian , Omo eko and Awori.”
He went on:” No country can succeed without safety. I would eliminate danfo and agberos in the state. I have been local government chairman, special adviser to the Minister of Works, Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission.
Of all the 16 governorship candidates in Lagos, I have the experience and the managerial expertise. I have gone for so many trainings, seminars, workshops and conferences on leadership. I won over 2000 awards, the major one was best council chairman of the 774 local government for Surulere for three years in a row by ALGON, the Ministry in Abuja .
Also the cleanest local government award given by the Ministry of Environment and Federal Ministry of Environment. We were also able to reduce crime in Surulere from 75 percent to 15 per cent”.
Asked if he plans to merge with a stronger party, Dickson said: ” I made a pledge to my own party and Lagosians that Accord will not collapse the structure into any political party. We are going to the election to win.We started with winning ideas. Accord is strong in Oyo, not much in Lagos. In all the past elections, we always come third. But , I am a very popular person. I am well known and that is the structure that we are bringing in. A few days ago, they said Labour has no structure, no candidate but they now won in Lagos. Accord is working towards governorship in Lagos”.
