The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called for increased involvement of community representatives in tackling the lingering security challenges facing the country.

The Sultan, who was represented by the District Head of Kingori, Dr. Jabbi Kilgore, spoke at a town hall meeting organised by the Kukah Centre for Peace in collaboration with a non-governmental organization (NGO), Global Right, yesterday in Sokoto.

Abubakar noted that bad governance, injustice and inequality are among factors that fuel insecurity.

He enjoined leaders at all levels to be fair in dealing with their subjects and know that they would give an account of their stewardship after leaving this world.

In his keynote address, Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Mathew Kukah, listed religious intolerance, fanaticism and injustice as some of the factors responsible for insecurity in the country.

Kukah said sectionalism, fanaticism, injustice and religious intolerance also play major parts in the insecurity rocking the nation’s boat.

The popular cleric urged stakeholders at the meeting to form a common front that would help curb the menace, saying insecurity knows no religion.

Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Torankawa, reiterated the commitment of the government to work with groups and associations in the promotion of peaceful coexistence across the state.
