Ode to OD at 80

Great writer of satire

Who makes the art of writing

Very easy on the eye

He never fails to lay bare

The myriad of quagmire

In which Nigeria is mired

We are glad to be wired

To the height of calibre

Of a Born teacher-writer

Whose template is to laugh-cry

At a state whose taste for waste

Is hardly viewed with distaste

His flair for editorials

Columns and essays about

Nigeria’s laissez faire

Is extraordinaire

There is palpable despair

That OD who dares to tread

Where many fear to lose bread

Is quitting the thankless grind

Of writing without an heir

Apparent or presumptive

Nigeria’s none the wiser!
