Opposition lawmakers Coalition in the House of Representatives has accused members of the Rivers Assembly of trying to create anarchy in the State.
In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, spokesman of the coalition, Ikenga Ugochinyere alleged that members of the Rivers Assembly were going round seeking court orders to stop the conduct of the local government elections ordered by the Supreme Court.
Ugochinyere also said as a way of frustrating the conduct of the election, the Assembly members were planning to amend the Rivers Independent Electoral Commission Law to bring back local government chairmen whose tenure has already expired.
He said the Rivers lawmakers were not interested in peace but how to destabilise the State, adding that the refusal to honour the invitation of the Governor for a meeting on the way forward was part of the plan.

Ugochinyere said the lawmakers were avoiding receiving the 2025 budget as directed by Supreme Court, saying that their action will not stop governance.
The coalition assured Rivers people that the election will hold as set by the electoral bodies, voting that no illegal amendment will stop the conduct of the elections.
They further alleged of plot to stop the main opposition PDP from holding convention, and thereby entering merger to produce presidential candidate.
He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for adhering to Supreme Court Judgement despite provocation and betrayal of peace accord while thanking Nigerians who have stood in defence of democracy, urging them to be courageous on all issues for the advancement of democracy.
