Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens secure  NWFL  Super Six Play-off spots

Reigning champions, Edo Queens and former winners, Bayelsa Queens continued to wax stronger atop the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership tables in Groups A and B after they secured vital wins against Remo Stars Ladies and Benue Queens on  Matchday 11 yesterday.

With  yesterday’s win , it is saved to say that Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens are through to the Super Six Play-off regardless of the outcome of their last three games.

But Rivers Angels have lost their unbeaten start to the season after a 3-0 defeat to FC Robo Queens to leave Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens as the last two women standing who are yet to be beaten this season.

Four games each were played in Groups A and B of the NWFL Premiership.

In Group A, Edo Queens extended their lead at the top to four points after they snatched a 1-0 win over Remo Stars Ladies in Ikenne. Kafayat Mafisere’s eighth minute goal was enough for the three points that has taken the Edo Ladies points haul to 29 points as against 25 gotten by Remo Stars Ladies who were beaten for the second time this season.

In other Group A games, Nasarawa Amazons overran Confluence Queens 5-0 in Lafia to complete a double and keep them in the third spot with 24 points while Abia Angels are fourth with 19 points after a 1-0 victory over Heartland Queens in Umuahia. Abia Angels got four points from the two games against their Oriental neighbours who are sixth with eight points.

The relegation battle between Dannaz Ladies and Ekiti Queens ended 1-1 apiece in Lagos. Ekiti Queens are fifth with 10 points but Dannaz Ladies are seventh with seven points.

Elsewhere in Group B, FC Robo Queens made it three wins on the stretch after a 3-0 walloping of 2021 Champions, Rivers Angels in Lagos.

Kemi Adegbuyi netted the opener in the second minute before Mariam Yahaya doubled the advantage in the 72nd  minute. Falconets striker, Opeyemi Ajakaye made it 3-0 in the 86th minute.

The win lifted Robo Queens to the third spot with 19 points ahead of Naija Ratels who are fourth with 16 points following a 2-1 loss to Ibom Angels in Uyo. Rivers Angels are second with 26 points but their unbeaten start to the season has been halted after 10 games.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa Queens thrashed Benue Queens 2-0 through Harmony John and Alaba Olaniyi in the 10th  and 60th  minute. The Prosperity Girls are three points more than Rivers Angels with 29 points from 11 games. They are as good as picking NWFL Premiership Super Six ticket with three games to spare.

2023 NWFL Premiership winners, Delta Queens pipped Adamawa Queens 1-0 in Asaba to move to the fifth spot with 14 points ahead of Ibom Angels who are next with 13 points.
