The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mamuda Zakari Yau, for allegedly stabbing a commercial motorcyclist to death and stealing his motorcycle in Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), the suspect confessed that he committed the crime because of financial difficulties, as he was under pressure to take a third wife.
Wakil explained that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday night near the old airport.
During the encounter, Yau allegedly used a knife to fatally stab the victim, Basiru Mohammed, aged 25, and made away with his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number NNG 813 UM.
“Fortunately, the victim managed to raise the alarm, prompting nearby residents to chase after the suspect. He eventually abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene,” Wakil stated.
