Rele Mavic Chijioke Okeugo is set to exhibit his works at Rele Gallery , Lagos Ųmų Anya (Children of the Eye), a solo exhibition, on view from April 6–12, 2021. The exhibition presents a new body of work that thoughtfully explores childhood, perception, and the power of seeing through the eyes of the young.
The title Ųmų Anya, translated from Igbo as Children of the Eye, speaks to the central themes of the exhibition vision, awareness, and emotional insight. In this series, Okeugo turns his lens toward children as both subjects and storytellers, capturing moments that exist between reality and imagination. His photographs are meticulously composed and richly textured, evoking a painterly quality that encourages prolonged engagement and contemplation.
Through scenes of play, movement, and stillness, the works examine how children interpret the world around them and how memory preserves those early ways of seeing. The images reflect innocence without sentimentality, presenting childhood as a space of strength, curiosity, and quiet authority. Okeugo’s approach invites viewers to reconsider their own perspectives and reconnect with the act of looking more deeply.
Installed within the minimalist setting of Rele Gallery, the exhibition creates an immersive visual experience where color, narrative, and form unfold with clarity and intention. Ųmų Anya (Children of the Eye) marks an important moment in Okeugo’s artistic journey and contributes to ongoing conversations in contemporary African fine art photography.
The exhibition will be open to the public from April 6 to April 12, 2021, at Rele Gallery, Lagos. Visitors are invited to engage with the works and experience a body of photography that is both intimate and expansive in its vision.
