Four hundred persons were killed in the herdsmen/farmers crisis in Niger State in 2016, Senator David Umaru (Niger East,) has said.
According to him, several houses, farmlands and produce were destroyed, thousands of cattle rustled while hundreds of young girls and women were kidnapped.
Umaru, who addressed reporters yesterday in Minna, lamented that the death rate was high due to inaction by the security agencies, adding that the presence of security personnel would have kept the killers away.
His words: “The police will always arrive late, after the attackers had completed operations and gone with our cows and teenage girls, leaving behind those murdered in cold blood.”
He lamented that the state government have been silent over the killings and called on Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to ensure proper mobilisation of security agencies to curtail the activities of herdsmen in 2017.
The Senator also urged the government to set up a white paper committee to implement the report of the Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the military siege in five communities, adding that the people are demanding for justice and compensation for the victims.
