Sacked Youth Leader of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osakpamwan Eriyo, is in more trouble, our reporters learnt yesterday.
Eriyo, who is facing a two-count charge of attempting to murder he party’s State Secretary, Chief Osaro Idah, may also be charged with attempt to commit suicide.
He was remanded in Benin Prisons pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Eriyo, who is the state chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), was said to have threatened to commit suicide in a bid to prevent police from taking him to court.
Police sources said he held a broken bottle to his neck and asked the police to stay away from him or he would slash his throat with it.
It was gathered that the police resorted to using force to disarm him before they could take him to court in December.
The source said Eriyo had bloodied lips and injuries when he was taken to court, following the suicide attempt.
Other sources told our reporter that an amended charge would be preferred against him when the case is transferred to the State High Court because the Magistrates’ Court said it lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
Government sources told our reporter that officials of the State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) were looking into the tax records of Comrade Eriyo with a view to charging him with tax evasion.
