A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the remand of one Adamu Lamu and Bodori Illiasu, in prison for allegedly abducting a woman and receiving N500,000 ransom.
The defendants were docked on charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation and abduction.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who ordered the remand of the defendants, adjourned the case until Oct. 5 for hearing.
The prosecutor, Umoh Inah, had told the court that one Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, reported the matter to the office of the Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 22.
He said the complainant received a phone call from his sister, Hariratu Sani, telling him that some men abducted their mother on Feb. 8.
He said that N500, 000 was demanded as ransom, while the defendants threatened to kill the woman if they were not paid.
Inah said that the money was paid, adding that the defendants were arrested in the course of police investigations.
The prosecutor said that other gang members were still at large with the abducted victim.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 397 and 274 of the Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
