    Court remands two men for abduction, receiving N500,000 ransom

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the remand of one Adamu Lamu and Bodori Illiasu‎, in prison for allegedly abducting a woman and receiving N500,000 ransom.

    Man in court over N20,000 theft

    A 29-year-old man, Timothy Adejo, was on Monday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N20,000 and assault.

    Adejo, of Apo village, had pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of joint act, criminal force, assault and theft.

    The Prosecutor, Joshua Ayanna, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Iyiola Owolabi of Apo, reported the matter at Apo Police Station on July 12.

    Ayanna said that the complainant alleged that the defendant, with five others now at large, jointly beat him up and forcefully stole his N20, 000.

    “The incident took place on his way back from work,” the prosecutor said.

    He said the defendant with others at large also stole the complainant’s Samsung cell phone, valued at N10, 000.

    He said the offences contravened Sections 79, 265, 248 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Mr. Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to N100, 000 bail with a reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 19 for hearing.

    Police arraign three for breaking man’s leg

    The Police on Thursday arraigned three men- Samuel Moses, Hassan Mohammed, and Fidelix‎ Edohe , in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, over alleged assault, resulting in the fracturing of the victim’s leg.

    The defendants were docked on charges of joint act, assault and causing grievous hurt.

    The prosecutor, Mr Fidelix Ogbobe, told the court that one John Smith of Police Cantonment, Area 11, Abuja , reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on July 9.

    He said the complainant and his brother, Abubakar Yakubu , were on their way home on the said date, and when they got to Garki 2, they attempted boarding a vehicle.

    He alleged that Moses prevented them from boarding the vehicle. ‎

    Ogbobe further said that when Smith insisted on boarding the vehicle, the defendants jointly assaulted him and used an object to hit his left leg and he sustained a fracture .

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 79, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.

    All the defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N80, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until Aug. 30 for hearing.

    Court remands man over kidnap of two

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the remand of 32-year-old Ismaila Isiaka in‎ prison, for allegedly kidnapping two men.

    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who gave the order adjourned the case until Aug. 14 for hearing.

    Isiaka was arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping, offences he denied committing.

    The prosecutor, Umoh Inah, told the court that the defendant was arrested based on a petition written to the Office of the Inspector General of Police.

    Inah said the defendant conspired with some of his gang members, who are at large, and kidnapped one Ajaka Musa and Musa Adamu on April 22.

    According to the prosecutor, the Police are still searching for the other gang members.

    Man jailed six weeks for assaulting woman

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Collins Okorodudu to six weeks imprisonment for beating up a woman.

    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, gave Okorodudu an option of N6, 000 fine, and also ordered him to pay N25, 000 compensation to the complainant, one Titus Mercy.

    He warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crime‎.

    Okorodudu was convicted on a four-count charge of criminal force, assault, causing hurt and mischief, offences he admitted committing.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Fidelix Ogbobe, had told the court that Mercy of Waru village, Abuja, reported the matter at the ‎Apo Police Station on June 26.

    He said that Okorodudu used maximum force on the complainant without any provocation, beat her up severely and slapped her on the face.

    The prosecutor also said that Okorodudu broke the complainant’s cell phone, valued at N25, 000, adding that the offences contravened Sections 266, 245 and 327 of the Penal Code.

    One Abubakar Mohammed and Abas Audu, were on Tuesday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly belonging to a gang of robbers.‎

    He said that the information emanated from the office of Inspector-General of Police, Special Tactical Squad Force, Abuja.‎

    The prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the defendants admitted to belonging to a three-man squad that specialised in robbing and terrorising people within and outside Abuja.‎

    He said the offence contravened Section 306 of the Penal Code.‎

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The judge Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until Aug. 7 for hearing.

    Court remands five men over robbery

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the remand of five men, docked for alleged criminal conspiracy and robbery.

    The suspects: Gambo Hassan, 20, Awolu Abubakar, 26, Abdulahi Salisu, 21, Hassan Usman , 38, and Musa Bilyamina,28, were alleged to have robbed one Bosede Oludare.

    The defendants were alleged to have robbed their victim of items worth N3.5 million, and N1.3million cash.

    All the defendants denied committing the offence.

    The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter and adjourned the case until July 31.

    He said that their bail application should come through motion by their counsel.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Umoh Inah, told the court that one Mrs Bosede Oludare of Life Camp reported the matter at Garki Police Station on June 8.

    Inah said that the case was reported through a security alert and a police patrol team deployed to the area tracked down the alleged gang of robbers.

    He said that the five suspected were all arrested while others were still at large.

    “During police investigations, it was discovered that items valued over N3.5million were stolen from the victim and N1.3million cash,’’ Inah said.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.

    Tenant docked over N70,000 electricity bill fraud

    ‎A 35-year-old man, Tony Hamza was on Wednesday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, over alleged N70,000 electricity bill fraud.

    ‎Hamza of Dakwo village, Abuja, was docked on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating.‎

    ‎The prosecutor, Donaldtus Abbah, told the court that one Chukwu Anthony and 20 others of Dakwo village reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on June 7.

    ‎According to him, the plaintiffs who are co-tenants of the defendant, contributed N70, 000 for February and March electricity bill.

    The prosecutor said that the said sum was given to the defendant to settle the bill, but he converted same to his personal use.

    Abbah said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted him bail in the sum of N80, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until Aug. 2, for hearing.

    Painter docked over theft of wrist watch, cell phone

    A 28-year-old painter, Barnabas Mtso, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing items valued at N305,000.

    The defendant of Lugbe, Abuja was docked on charges of criminal breach of trust and theft.

    The prosecutor, Fedelix Ogbobe told the court that one Mrs. Damilola Oyewole‎ of Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on June 7.
    He said ‎the plaintiff sometime in February entrusted her house keys to the defendant for him to paint.

    ‎He alleged that the defendant in the process stole the plaintiff’s cell phone and a wrist watch, all valued at N305, 000.
    The prosecutor said during police investigation, the cell phone valued at N250, 000 was recovered from the defendant, ‎ but the wristwatch is yet to be recovered.
    He said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 288 of the Penal Code.
    The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.
    He adjourned the case until July 10 for hearing.

  • Mechanic bags four months imprisonment for attempted car theft‎

    A Gudu Upper Area Court on Thursday sentenced a 27-year-old Mechanic, Osama Mohammed to four months in prison for attempted car theft.

    Mohammed of Masaka, Nasarawa State was convicted for ‎attempting to commit an offence of car theft and being in possession of a master key.

    The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko ‎sentenced Mohammed to two months in prison with an option of N50, 000 fine on the charge of attempted car theft.

    He also sentenced Mohammed to two months in prison without an option of fine for the charge of possessing a master key‎ and ordered that he should be given seven strokes of cane.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both sentences were passed by the judge after Mohammed pleaded guilty to the offences and begged for mercy.

    Kagarko, however, warned Mohammed to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor Fedelix Ogubwe told the court that Yemi Omotayo of Gudu District, Abuja reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 26.

    He said the plaintiff parked his car along UTC, Area 10, Abuja for some business transactions on the said date.

    The prosecutor said when the plaintiff returned, ‎he noticed Mohammed attempting to force open his car with another key, with the intention to steal the car but was arrested.

    He said the offence contravened Sections 287 and 319 of the Penal Code.
