For most Nigerians, what happened in Offa, Kwara State is armed robbery. Call it what you may – I say, it’s one like no other. Fifty armed robbers armed with sophisticated guns and grenades in an orgy of mindless killings including policemen and just anyone in sight? It’s like one of those scenes one finds in the movies. And to imagine that is all for money – in this case naira notes? Could the fellows have imagined the apex bank keeping their reserves in the vaults of one of the numerous commercial banks in the town?
If anyone needed further evidence of how antediluvian our security architecture has become, the reign of terror unleashed on the town would be it. Time for the authorities to something– and fast too.
