University of Nigeria, Nsukka Professor Emeritus El Anatsui has increased his sponsorship of Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF) top winners’slots to six, after sponsoring four last year.
The don sponsors winners to El Anatsuito Dak’Art Biennale, Senegal, the most prestigious art event in Africa.
This is coming on the heels of the preparation for the opening of LIMCAF’s Lagos Zone exhibition, one of this year’s seven zones’exhibitions that will culminate in the grand finale, gala and award night in Enugu on October 27.
According to the festival’s Organising Committee, the zone exhibitions have begun. The Auchi/Benin Zone held at the Auchi Polytechnic. It was followed by Uyo/Calabar zone and that of Enugu at the Alliance Francaise Premises in Enugu opened by University of Nigeria, Nsukka former Vice Chancellor, Prof Bartho Okolo.
The Lagos zone’s will be opened by Mrs Yvonne Fashinro on October 1 at Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Ikoyi at 5pm.
Abuja zone exhibition was billed to open yesterday at the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Wuse, Abuja, to be followed by Ibadan on Saturday, September29.
The Ibadan exhibition will hold at the Alliance Francaise premises in New GRA Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Port Harcourt exhibition will be the last. It will hold at the Alliance Francaise Premises in Port Harcourt.
According to a statement by the festival’s Art Director, Dr Ayo Adewunmi, there were about 400 entries from around the country. He stated that the Board, Organising Committee and other VIPs who attended the Enugu event were excited by the increase in the number of entries.
He noted that alumni (finalists and winners alike) of LIMCAF in various categories have continued to show evidence that their winning was no fluke by the way their careers had blossomed in various ways after each annual event.
He also disclosed that Lagos, Ibadan and Enugu zones had the highest number of entries this year.
