Over 2,000 members of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, have converged in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, to pray for a crisis free 2019 general elections across the country, as well as for the nation’s stability and growth.
The four day programme, holding at the Hope WaddellTraining Institution, Calabar, drew participants from across the South South region of the country.
Cross River President of Boys’ Brigade and National Patron, Prof. Offiong Offiong, said that the State Youth Prayer Camp has been sustained by the Brigade for the past eight years with significance records.
Offiong, who is the immediate past Commissioner for Education in Cross River, explained that the Brigade usually begin the New Year with fasting, ministration and spiritual development for the boys.
He said that Nigeria was in dire need of prayers due to the present challenges facing the country, adding that the objective of the 2019 programme was to pray for the stability and growth of the country and a crisis free 2019 polls.

“Nigeria needs a lot of prayers. The youths are always at the receiving end of any crisis in any community.
“Apart from the spiritual growth of the young men and boys in the brigade, we will also pray for the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria.
“We are praying that even the election that will be coming up next month will not precipitate the kind of crisis we had in the past.
“We will also pray for the growth and stability of the country so that the boys who are coming up to become men will have a country to be proud of.
“That is why we are engaging them to be part of the process that will lead us to having a peaceful and prosperous state and country,’’ he said.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr Antigha Ita, said the programme was one of the most successful youth development programme organised to inculcate the teaching of Christ in the minds of the young ones.
Ita, who is also the National Vice President, Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, South South region, said that the boys and the officers of the brigade have seen the impact of the programme, not just in their spiritual development but also in their overall wellbeing.
He explained that they have had testimonies from participants in the past who have excelled in their academics, business and moral life.
According to him, the programme also has an entrepreneurial section for the boys with the objective of equipping them with self employable skills.
