Kidnapped chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Delta State University, Abraka Branch, Comrade Monday Izu, has been freed.
The Nation learnt the labour leader regained his freedom on Tuesday night.
According to sources, he was released alongside his driver, after spending six days in the kidnappers’ den.
The Nation had reported Izu and his chauffeur were abducted along the deplorable portion of Eku-Abraka road in Ethiope East council area in the state.

He was reportedly returning from an official assignment in Warri.
The gunmen had reportedly ambushed them at the failed spot of the road.
The kidnappers had later demanded N200 million for their freedom when they established contact with their families.
Families of the victims were, however, reported to have pleaded to part with N5 million.
When contacted, Wednesday morning, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onpme Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed Izu’ release.
“Yes. We are waiting for information from the ICO. He is with the man currently. He was released yesterday night,” the PPRO stated.
