Abia lawmakers get Certificates of Return

The seven Abia State lawmakers who got elected during the March 5 rerun have been issued Certificates of Return.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Sylvester Ezeani urged them to work for their people for the sustenance of democracy, and advised them not to forget the electorates, saying “this will make it easy for you to seek re-election and also make INEC’s work easier.”

“Asking for the votes of your constituents when you did nothing for them while in office will be difficult and could lead to chaos in future elections,” he added.

The Lawamker-elect for Umunneochi, Prince Ikedi Ezekwesili, praised Ezeani and other INEC workers for doing the right thing by delivering a credible election against all odds.

Ezekwesili recalled that there were reports that Abia INEC had been compromised, “as there were reports that results have been written and waiting to be announced, but you proved rumour mongers wrong”.

He said with the outcome of the rerun, things will be better as it was a direct diversion from the usual norm. He thanked the electorates for their support and pledged to work for them.

The lawmakers-elect include: Blessing Nwagba (PDP, Aba North); Luke Ukara (APGA, Arochukwu), Theophilus Ugboaja (APGA, Ikwuano); Umunachimso Alozie (PDP, Ugwunnagbo); Chikwendu Kalu (PDP, Isiala Ngwa South); Chijiok e Nwachukwu (APGA, Umuahia South) and Ikedi Ezekwesili (APGA, Umunneochi).
