Adamawa blessed with govs who compete to develop state – Chief of Staff

Adamawa has been a lucky state electing governors who compete to execute development projects over the years, the Chief of Staff to incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Dr Amos Edgar, has said.

Edgar, who was head of the Civil Service in the time of the immediate past governor, Senator Jibrilla Bindow, and throughout Fintiri’s first term, said the two governors have been particularly remarkable in infrastructural development.

The Nation reports that while Bindow became renown for reconstructing most major roads, particularly in the capital city, Fintiri has not only added tarred roads, he has built the state’s two flyovers and got the third approved for construction by the SEC meeting of Thursday, September 15.

Edgar said, “God loves us as a people and as a state. In His sovereign will, God has been granting us opportunities and giving us leaders who love the state.”

Shedding light on what Adamawa people should expect as Fintiri’s second term gets past 100 days, Edgar said, “We’ll continue with education support, ensuring among other things, that students are well fed, even as the programme costs about N97 million every month when schools are in session.

“We’ll continue paying for their WAEC, NECO, NAPTEP; which cost government about N1.57 billion every year, because we believe that freeing parents of the burden of paying for external examinations will encourage students to complete their studies.

“We have built cottage hospitals in virtually every local government area and we have introduced health insurance scheme, so that everyone can access quality health care. Several such impactful projects are coming on stream, including a stadium to encourage sports development.”

He gave an update on the 10 luxury buses the state government recently acquired as fuel subsidy removal palliative intervention, saying the buses would soon be deployed.

He explained that the committee working out the process was finalising discussions on a public private partnership to ensure optimal success.
