Adamawa screens intending pilgrims tomorrow

The Adamawa State Christian Pilgrims Board will begin screening of Christians aspiring to go to Rome for the 2021 pilgrimage tomorrow.

The Executive Secretary of the pilgrims’ board, Rev. Zenald Love who disclosed this to reporters in Yola, the state capital, said the departure from Nigeria through the Yola International Airport is scheduled for December 1.

The three-day screening exercise for the aspiring pilgrims from across the state is scheduled to end on Thursday, November 18, following which orientation for successful aspirants will hold on November 30 in Yola.

The Adamawa Christian Pilgrims Board boss said the expected expenses for each pilgrim had been calculated at N1, 313,040.

He said the sum would cover PCR testing in Nigeria and abroad.

“The amount will take care of visa as well. It will cover the flight from point of departure from Nigeria to Rome and back to Nigeria, including accommodation, buffet feeding throughout, local transportation in Rome and medical and insurance, among other things,” Rev Zenald Love said.

According to him, the pilgrims will be in Rome for 10 days.

He further disclosed that the Adamawa delegation for the 21 pilgrimages to Rome will be led by the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stephen Mamza.

On plans to prevent pilgrims from absconding, Rev Love said it had been decided for every pilgrim to be guaranteed by two persons who will commit themselves to N20 million to the board if the pilgrim they guaranteed refuses to return to Nigeria.

“We warn every guarantor to beware of the risk they take,” he said, explaining that if any pilgrim absconds, the board will collect the N20 million from the guarantors of such a person and give it to Interpol to seek out and deport such a person.
