Ado/Akure road abduction: only one involved – Police

Ten Passengers of an 18-seater bus and the driver were reported to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Akure- Ikere road on Tuesday night.

But in a swift reaction, Ondo state spokesman, Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police(SP) debunked the report, saying it was only the occupant of the vehicle, who was the driver that was whisked away by the suspected gunmen.

Sources said the bus was traveling to Ado Ekiti before it was ambushed at one of the bad spots on the route and 10 passengers inside the vehicle were taken away.

When contacted, one of the executives of a Drivers Union in Akure who spoke under the condition of the anonymity confirmed the incident.

Also, the leadership of NURTW in Ekiti state also confirmed that the vehicle involved was known to be that of a driver called Baba Ikere but declined further comment on the issue.

As at 10 p.m of Tuesday, the vehicle involved was said to be on the spot of the incident and nothing had been heard from any of the victims.

Joseph said” A space bus Toyota Previa vehicle driven by one Akinde Felix from Ikere-Ekiti en route Akure was with only the driver inside.

“At about 4.00 am, on a spot close to the NYSC camp at Ita-Ogbolu, the vehicle was blocked by suspected hoodlums, while the driver who was the only driver was whisked away”.

Joseph, however, said the command had begun investigation and also intensifying efforts not only to rescue the victim, but arrest the perpetrators.
