Defending champions D’Tigress has been drawn in Group B against Mozambique and a yet to be qualified team from Zone 6 for this year’s FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2021.
The draw conducted at the weekend in Yaounde, has 12-nation competing from September 17 to 26 at Yaounde Multisport Complex in Cameroon’s capital city.
D’Tigress who are two-time champions are expected to be aiming for their third title against other top teams from the continent as the teams were divided into four groups of three teams each while the tournament hosts Cameroon were drawn in Group A alongside Kenya and Cape Verde.
It remains to be determined the winner of the FIBA Africa Zone 6 qualifier, which has been placed in Group B. A wild card team, yet to be confirmed, has been drawn in Group D.
According to FIBA, in the first phase, each team will take on the two opponents in its respective group in one-leg game, while the top teams in each group will advance directly to the Quarter-Finals. The teams ranked second (2nd) and third (3rd) will play the Qualification Round for the quarter-finals.
The winners of the Quarter-Final advance to Semi-Finals, while the losers will play the classification games for the 5th to 8th Places.
The classification game for Third-Place and the Final will be played on the last day of competition (September 26).
