From Toba Adedeji, Osogbo
The Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhikirulahi Akinropo, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone XI Headquarters, Osogbo, Osun State demanding the prosecution of Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi.
The petition from Oba Akinropo through his counsel, Soji Oyetayo, which was made available to The Nation in Osogbo yesterday was titled: “Letter of demand for the immediate prosecution of Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo”.
The lawyer alleged in the petition that Oluwo wanted to kill his client.
He said the law is above everybody, “no matter how highly placed the person is.”
Oyetayo alleged that Oba Akanbi’s act of beating Oba Akinropo during the peacekeeping meeting held at the AIG’s office in the presence of two Osun State commissioners and some officers amounted to criminal conduct and was punishable by law.
The letter dated February18, 2020, with ref: SOC/094/2020, read: “We have been consulted and our professional services retained by Oba Dhikirulahi Akinropo, the Agbowu of Ogbaagba in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area of Osun State and we have the instruction of our client to present this humble petition to you as follows:
“Our client is the Agbowu of Ogbaagba in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area of Osun State of Nigeria and a part 2 chieftaincy under the Chiefs Law of Osun State of Nigeria. It would be recalled on February 14, our client was among the traditional rulers from Iwo Traditional Council invited by your humble self for a peace meeting in your office.

“In compliance with the invitation, our client, together with some of his colleagues invited for the meeting, came to your office for the peace meeting and in the course of the meeting, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, pounced on our client and inflicted him with heavy blows, which later resulted in our client being injured and he was later rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro Osogbo for treatment.
“The said ugly incident happened in your presence, two honourable Osun State commissioners, some of your officers who were at the meeting and other traditional rulers invited for the peace meeting. In fact, it was your humble self who disengaged the Oluwo of Iwo from killing our client on that day.
“Our client was thoroughly assaulted by the Oluwo of Iwo, which caused our client grievous bodily harm. Our client was later admitted at the Osun State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo where he was treated and later discharged.
“It needs to be clearly stated that under our law, nobody, no matter highly placed, is above the law. The act of the Oluwo of Iwo at the meeting by beating a fellow traditional ruler amounted to criminal conduct, which is punishable by law.
“Oluwo of Iwo has been boasting all about that the police cannot do anything to him and twisting the event that occurred in your presence to suit his own purpose. We don’t want him to change the event as it occurred in your presence so as not to bring the police into disrepute. We pray you, sir that the full wrath of the law should be brought against him for the offence he has committed.”
Oyetayo urged the AIG to expedite action on the investigation of the case and charge Oluwo to court for criminal prosecution.
The Oluwo of Iwo, while addressing reporters on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, Odi-Olowo, Osogbo denied that he punched Agbowu of Ogbaagba.
