Aliyu dissatisfied with road project

From Kolade Adeyemi, Kano

Minister of Works (state) Abubakar Aliyu is unhappy with the level of work on the Wudil/Gaya road project. He berated the construction firm’s lackadaisical attitude, describing the work as sluggish and unacceptable.

Aliyu addressed reporters after inspecting the Kano to Maiduguri road construction from Damaturu in Yobe State, Shuwarin in Jigawa State, and rounding off in Wudil bypass in Kano State. He described the work as laudable.

The minister said he embarked on the inspection because he made a similar visit last December where he urged the contractors to finish the work quickly.

“Since then, most of them have shown serious commitment and the remaining work is a negligible per cent. The performance of these companies – Setraco, CGC, Mothercat – is laudable, but Dantata and Sawoe is lagging behind’, Aliyu noted.

He said: “From Damaturu to Wudil, we have four contracts and they both promised to push the level of work because this road is very important to both the government and the people plying it.

I implore you to rise from your slumber and concentrate on the Gaya to Wudil road. I urge you to mobilise men and machinery so that this work can be completed soon.”

Aliyu said the government might be forced to revoke the contract if Dantata and Sawoe fail to meet expectation. “President Muhammadu Buhari is already on our neck to ensure prompt execution of road projects and other infrastructural projects wherever they are in Nigeria,” he added.
