Amaechi, Akpabio reconcile for APC’s unity

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom North West) have met to settle their perceived political differences.

The meeting, which was at Akpabio’s instance, was brokered by two party chieftains – Alhaji Nasiru Danu, (Dan Amarna of Dutse) and Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN). Danu was a Director of Logistics of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council and a long-time ally of President Muhammadu Buhari. Keyamo was the Director of Strategic Communications of the campaign council.

A statement by Keyamo said the meeting, which held at Danu’s private residence in Asokoro, Abuja, lasted several hours. It added that Amaechi and Akpabio talked about their various disagreements from their days as governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and in the then Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

The statement reads: “They also discussed and analysed the party’s performance in the South-South in the just-concluded elections, and identified areas where things went wrong and how to improve those areas in future.

“At the end, both leaders agreed to close ranks and work for the party’s interest. They promised to put behind them all previous perceived misgivings and give a positive direction to the party’s supporters across the country.”
