APC lawmakers seek nullification of Olanusi’s impeachment

The two All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Edema and Fola Olasehinde-Vicente, have sought the order of the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, to nullify the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Ali Olanusi.

In the suit filed by their lawyer, Charles Titiloye, the APC lawmakers urged the court to set aside the plenary of April 27, where their colleagues impeached Olanusi.

The lawmakers in the originating summons sought an order to nullify the consideration and adoption of the seven-man committee report set up to investigate the allegations against Olanusi.

Besides, they prayed for the invalidation of the report of the selection committee, which confirmed and ratified the appointment of Lasisi Oluboyo as the new deputy governor.

They pleaded for a declaration that the Assembly is bound to obey its standing order and its rules of customs in the convocation of its plenary sitting on April 27.

They also sought a declaration that as members of the Assembly, they are entitled to be served notice of the plenary sitting of April 27,not being a date fixed by the House Order at its adjourned date for plenary session.

The APC lawmakers also pleaded for an order directing the Inspector General of Police(IGP) and Director-General, Department of State Security  (DSS) to restore the security personnel withdrawn from the impeached deputy governor and equally restore his rights and privileges.

They urged the court to determine if the Assembly can convoke a plenary session without serving all members with notice of such sitting in accordance with Section 101 and the order 7 of the standing rules of the House.

No date has been fixed for hearing.
