The Appeal Court sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has upheld the election of Emmanuel Orkejev as the senator representing Benue Northwest.

The court dismissed the appeal filed by former Governor George Akume of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the declaration of Okejev of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the March 9 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Unsatisfied with the tribunal’s ruling, Akume, the immediate past senator and former Senate Minority Leader, approached the Appeal Court, challenging the judgment of the lower court.

The verdict of the three-man panel, led by Justice I. G. Mbaba, was read by Justice Louise Otis, J. C. A.

The appellate court upheld the judgment of the tribunal on the ground that the appellant’s appeal lacked merit.

It also held that the appellant was not able to prove his case and his evidence was based on hearsay evidence.
