The Anglican Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has advised the Federal Government to increase investment in the health sector, to reduce deaths.
He spoke at a mini gathering organised to receive the remains of Mrs. Felicia Gbazuagu, wife of Enugu politician and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Gbazuagu Nweke, who died abroad following an illness that started in Nigeria.
Chukwuma said it was unfortunate that successive governments had failed to tackle decayed infrastructure and low budgetary allocation to the health sector.
He said poor investment in the health sector had led to strikes by doctors, who sought improved condition of service.

He described as shameful, the action of politicians who embark on medical trips abroad, while failing to improve health facilities at home.
“It is unfortunate that doctors, who should be on duty, saving lives, are on strike and President Muhammadu Buhari travelled outside the country to seek medical care, instead of making efforts to address the challenges in the sector.
“If the health system was good, Felicia would not have died,” Chukwuma said.
He enjoined the Federal Government to ensure that more funds were injected into the health sector, to improve hospitals.
The cleric was joined by the former governor of old Anambra State, Sen. Jim Nwobodo and the ex-president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, to receive the remains of Felicia in company with her husband.
They prayed God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
