Over 250 variety of artworks are set to be sold between the ranges of N5,000 to N200,000 at the MydrimAffordable Art Show, which is scheduled to run for two weeks. The showwill be featuring thirty-eight artists who are mostly emerging artists, including renowned artist, Bruce Onobrakpeya.
The show will open on Friday, June 3 at the gallery in Ikoyi, Lagos, and will close on Saturday, June 18.Mrs. SinmideleAdesanya, the gallery owner, while briefing the press recently in Lagos, said the concept, though may be simple, yet unique in which anyone can find good paintings, sculptures, bead works and mixed medium, under one roof at affordable price. “People see art as an elites thing, we want to remove thatmind set.Anyone can be an art collector, whatever the budget or taste,” she said.
Adesanya said the show aims to appeal to and make art accessible for all, especially the youths who want to be art collectors. With little money they can start collecting form the affordable art show. She said the show will be an opportunity and a rewarding experience for young collectorswho will be buying their first artwork. We are trying to get young people to buy artworks, something of value.”
The show according to her, also aims to helpingdevelop the career of the young artists, who will be participating in the show. Most of the participating artists aremainly young artists who just left school five years ago.”We have young artists who are gasping, they have this talent but they are not recognised,” she pointed.
“The gallery has over the years promoted young artists and the show is to give them the opportunity to showcase their talent. They will have their work sold at a reasonable price which is why we call it the affordable art show. We are trying to also encourage young people to invest their money on something of value,” said Philomena Bestman, the gallery manager.
Bestman said instalment is accepted which is to encourage young collectors. “We are promoting young artists, and in promoting them we are displaying their works and as well as encouragingyoung collectors to buy to artwork.”
Work which will be on view are Sunset, The Review, The Spot, Forgive is Devine, Oshodi Memories, My Eyes is Fixed on You, But Some are More Equal than Others, and a lot more. Participating artists are Joshua Nmesirionye, Johnson Uwadinma, ChineduOgakwu, OlufemiKayode, ChisomOkeke, ChineduUzoma, SalakoOlajide, Blessing Joejim, SeyeMorankinyo, Gerald Ike Chiemezie, OlufemiOyewole, etc.
