AN Assistant Superintendent of Police and sergeant have been arrested following a report that they extorted a woman of N10,000 in the Ikorordu area of Lagos.
The victim Madam Oluwatoyin said after searching for a Point of Sale (POS) agent to withdraw money and buy foodstuff for her family, a policeman directed her to a place where she finally got N10,000, which the officers seized from her, leaving her emptyhanded.
The woman, who narrated her experience in a video shared on the social media, said her ordeal started around 10:45am on Wednesday.
Having gone round her neighbourhood without spotting a POS agent, Oluwatoyin said she and one other person drove towards Oando petrol station.
Just before they got to the facility, the met police officers at a roadblock who told them someone could provide POS service right in front of them.
She said, “So they called the guy for us and we went to him. He said he did not have mjuch money and could only give N10,000. After we collected the N10,000, we went back to the car to drive back. That was when a police officer told another police officer to enter our car and drive us down to the station.

“We were shocked and asked what we did. The policemen told us they are the ones that will collect the money.
“They took us to Agbowa Police Station, we were there till after 6pm when the Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) Adebayo Adebanjo Ojo. He was not even ready to talk to anybody and he started billing everybody N10,000 each and that was the N10,000 we collected from the POS.
“The money I was supposed to use in buying things in the house has been collected from me by the police. The DTO collected N10,000. When you get to the police station, you’ll see cars there and they have even deflated some tyres asking them to bring the N10,000. The DTO’s name is Adebayo Adebanjo, he’s the DTO of Agbowa.
Reacting to the video, spokesman for the police command Bala Elkana said the DTO, ASP Adebayo Ojo and a female Sergeant Adeleke Mojisola have been identified and arrested, adding that Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has ordered an indepth investigation into the case.
“While appreciating the courage of the complainant and other well meaning citizens who forwarded the video to our social media page, the command urged the complainant to take a further step by reporting at the command headquarters Ikeja to enable the command conclude the investigation.
