He added that it was important for them to use the season for “sober reflection and reaffirmation of moral rectitude as exemplified by Christ.’’

Sule said: “My dear brethren, you are aware that the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises love, peace, humility and, indeed, dignity for humankind.  It is for this reason that Jesus Christ epitomises self-sacrifice, good neighbourliness, charity and reconciliation among the human race.

“This festive season, therefore, calls for sober reflection and reaffirmation of moral rectitude as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Senators Abiru, Adeola, Akpoti-Uduaghan, Musa, Katung rejoice with Christians

Like the governors, Senators Abiru,   Adeola, Akpoti-Uduaghan, Katung and Musa felicitated Christians and enjoined them to imbibe the qualities of Jesus Christ.

Abiru, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, called for unity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence during the festive season.

He also urged  Christians to live peacefully in love, sacrifice, compassion and tolerance, describing Christmas as a solemn reminder of the power of shared values in strengthening national cohesion and harmony.

The  Senator, who represents  Lagos East Senatorial District,  noted that the season presents a renewed opportunity for Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious and political differences.

He stressed that peaceful co-existence remains fundamental to nation-building and sustainable national development.

On the state of the economy, the lawmaker said the economy has turned the corner, highlighting clear signs of recovery and stabilisation under the leadership of  President   Tinubu.

Abiru explained further that the Tinubu administration’s bold economic reforms, particularly the

On his part, Adeola called for prayers for sustained economic recovery and national prosperity and to use the Christmas season to reaffirm their faith and offer prayers for a more peaceful and prosperous nation.

He described Christmas as a celebration that signifies hope and salvation, noting that the birth of Christ assures humanity of a better future.

Musa , who is   Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance,   emphasised the importance of unity and religious tolerance.

Musa urged Christians to reflect on Jesus Christ’s teachings of love, sacrifice, peace, and compassion, and to renew their commitment to values that promote peaceful coexistence and national unity.

He stressed that unity among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences, was critical to building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

In Kogi State, Akpoti-Uduaghan described    “Christmas is a season of love, sacrifice and shared joy.

She distributed over 2,000 bags of 25-kilogramme rice to constituents across Kogi Central Senatorial District’s five local government areas as part of her Christmas outreach.

The Senator said: “At a time when many households are under pressure from the high cost of living, it is important to stand with our people in practical ways. This distribution is to ensure that families across Kogi Central can celebrate without undue hardship.”

Like Akpoti-Uduaghan, Katung distributed 4,000 bags of rice to his constituents to support families in celebrating  Christmas.

Yohanna Allahmagani, a former Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, who handled the distribution on behalf of the Senator,   urged the constituents to continue to support and pray for the Senator, particularly during the festive season.

Allahmagani assured the people that  Katung would continue to attract democratic dividends and provide effective and impactful representation to the people of the district.

Obasa commended Nigerians for their perseverance and support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration at both the federal and state levels.

  • Poor electricity supply likely to linger

Poor electricity supply likely to linger

    • Consumers lament situation

Many Nigerians spent Christmas Day without electricity supply as recent outages continued.

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu had on Tuesday assured that electricity supply would improve within 48 hours. He attributed the worsening power supply to an explosion at the  Excravos Lagos Gas Pipeline (ELP).

In Lagos and other parts of the nation, most homes had no electricity. Those who could no longer cope resorted to using generators.

A resident of  Ajuwon, Ogun State, Abidemi Olawale,  said for over three weeks, he had to contend with a “terrible” light situation, adding that he had to rely on powering his refrigerator with a generator to preserve the food stored in it.

In Akoka, another Lagos suburb,  a resident who identified herself simply as Calista explained that even three weeks before the minister’s explanation, her area, which is on the Band A belt, hardly had electricity supply for more than five hours a day.

“We have had no supply in the last four days. However, yesterday evening, light flashed at us three times for about five minutes. As I talk to you, we have no electricity. For me, the Band  A, B and whatever categorisation is a scam,” she said yesterday.

A resident of  Ijagba Community in  Lafenwa, Ogun State, Mrs Esther Komolafe,  said she has not enjoyed the Band A category ‘imposed’  on the residents.

“The electricity situation has been appalling. This festive period, we have not enjoyed light. We have been living on generators,” she lamented.

Salisu Adamu, a consumer in Kubwa,   the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), said poor supplies were marred by low current.

“We had light from around 4: 00 am to 3:00 pm yesterday, but in some of the time, the current was low, “ he said.

In Rivers State, some residents of Ada George, Douglas and Iwofe  in Port Harcourt, complained that the supply from the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) had worsened

Others from Elekahia also confirmed that electricity supply reduced significantly,  forcing them to depend on generators.

A resident, who identified herself as Happineess, said: “Electricity supply during this festive period has been poor. They would bring it and take it almost immediately.”

In spite of the assurance by the minister, the poor power supply may linger.

This is not unconnected to the continued reduction in the grid capacity, which has shrunk to about 3,000 Megawatts (MW).  This capacity is a sharp contrast when compared to the set target of 6,000 MW.

Adelabu had assured that  the country would keep supply at an average of 5,000MW.

In  August 2024, the minister,  while addressing the management and staff of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in Ikot Nyong, Cross River State,  assured that “more improvement will be witnessed by next year by consumers.’’

We are doing everything humanly possible to enhance the state of transmission,’’ he added.

Available data detailing the second quarter of the outgoing year, sourced from both the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), revealed that while the country has a grid-connected installed generation capacity of 13,625 MW, average available generation in this period stood at 5,395.72MW.

Despite the installed capacity of over 13,000MW,   available data as of last Tuesday indicated that electricity supply from the national grid dropped to 2,652.05 MW.

This figure by Generation Companies(GenCos) represents a plant availability factor (PAF) of 39.6 per cent, meaning that throughout the period under review, about 8,229MW of electricity wheeling capacity was idle and never got to the grid.

By implication, about 60 per cent of the installed generation capacity remained unavailable for dispatch to the national grid.

A breakdown of total load allocation to Distribution Companies (DisCos) as captured by the Nigerian Electricity Grid (NIGGRID), on the said date, showed that Abuja Electricity Distribution Company received the highest allocation at 496MW, followed closely by Ikeja Disco with 489MW and Eko Disco with 417MW.

Ibadan Disco was allocated 388MW, while Benin and Enugu DisCos received 264MW and 252MW, respectively. Port Harcourt Disco was allocated 230MW, with Kano and Kaduna DisCos receiving 218MW and 209MW, respectively. Similarly, Jos Disco received 183MW, while Yola Disco recorded the lowest allocation at 94MW.

Furthermore, grid records for this month revealed repeated instances where at least 15 grid-connected plants recorded zero output, including Alaoji NIPP, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omoku, Sapele Steam, Rivers IPP, Ihovbor NIPP and Trans-Amadi. Odokpani NIPP deteriorated steeply or falling from 55.5 per cent to 35.72 per cent within a single quarter.

Alaoji NIPP recorded a PAF of zero, meaning it didn’t contribute to the electricity supply in this period. It should be noted that most of these plants, about 70 per cent, are dependent on gas for their operations.

The National Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that the Lagos-Escravos Gas pipeline explosion resulted in a significant reduction in electricity generation nationwide.

The body informed the public and power sector stakeholders that it is closely monitoring ongoing repair works being carried out by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

According to NISO, several gas-fired power stations recorded reduced output following the incident, leading to a drop in available generation capacity on the national grid and a consequent shortfall in electricity supply to consumers.

The System Operator, however, noted that it has received assurances from NGPTC that restoration works on the vandalised pipeline are nearing completion and that full operations are expected to resume within 24 to 48 hours.

Imoudu: Tinubu vows to improve workers’ welfare

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, social justice and constructive engagement with organised labour, as Nigeria marked the 20th posthumous anniversary of foremost labour leader, Pa Michael Omiunu Imoudu.

The President’s message was delivered at the weekend   in Lagos by the Minister of Labour and Employment , Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, at a ceremony attended by labour leaders, government officials and representatives of several state governments.

Tinubu said his absence was due to “personal and national engagements,” but described the occasion as a moment of national reflection.

“Michael Imoudu was not just a labour leader; he was the conscience of the working class, a fearless voice for the oppressed and a patriot whose sacrifices laid a strong foundation for the labour movement in Nigeria,” the President said.

He described Imoudu as an enduring symbol of workers’ rights, social justice, equity and national unity.

Tinubu noted that Imoudu’s courage and resilience, even in the face of detention and intimidation during the colonial era, remain instructive for contemporary Nigeria.

“His life reminds us that progress is often born out of sacrifice, and that meaningful nation-building requires courage, dialogue and collective action,” he said.

According to the President, the Federal Government, under its Renewed Hope Agenda, is committed to policies that promote decent work, job creation, skills development, social protection and fair labour practices.

“Workers are not just factors of production; they are partners in progress. Constructive engagement with organised labour remains a cornerstone of our industrial relations framework,” he added.

Speaking at the event, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, said the struggles faced by workers today echo those confronted by Imoudu decades ago.

“The beatings, the abductions, the state violence—we have seen them before. But we refuse to be cowed. The fear we see is fear of our united power,” he said.

Ajaero urged workers and trade unions to draw renewed strength from Imoudu’s legacy. “Let this anniversary be a reactivation—of his militancy in wage bargaining, his political clarity in educating workers about the roots of their suffering, and his unbending solidarity with students, farmers, the unemployed and all the oppressed,” he said.

He added that honouring Imoudu goes beyond physical monuments.

“We do not build monuments of stone for a man; we build movements of people.

We honour him by becoming the movement,” Ajaero said.

The NLC president also said recent nationwide protests reflected Imoudu’s approach to struggle, noting that organised labour would intensify its push for a living wage, economic justice and accountability.

Legal practitioner and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, used the occasion to raise governance and rule-of-law concerns, urging the Federal Government to fully implement the Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments.

Falana said, “What the Supreme Court ordered last year is that the statutory allocations of local government be paid directly to each of the local governments.” He called on the President to direct the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to commence direct disbursement to the 774 local government accounts.

The event was attended by labour leaders from across the country, as well as representatives of the Lagos State Government and officials from Katsina, Enugu, Abia and Jigawa states.

  • Nigeria, U.S. hit terrorists in Sokoto

Nigeria, U.S. hit terrorists in Sokoto

Nigeria and the United States yesterday launched a joint military operation to flush out terrorists in the Northwest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed last night.

The Federal Government confirmed in a statement by the ministry that it remained engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States (U.S.), in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the joint operation in a tweet on his X handle.

He said the attacks were on Islamic States of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Sokoto State.

The statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry was signed in the early hours of today by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

It reads: “This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the Northwest. In line with established international practice and bilateral understandings, this cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and

other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.

“Nigeria reiterates that all counter-terrorism efforts are guided by the primacy of protecting civilian lives, safeguarding national unity, and upholding the rights

and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.

“The Federal Government continues to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while strengthening Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to engage relevant partners and keep the public informed through appropriate official channels.”

Confirming the operation, Trump said the military struck terrorists’ hideout in Sokoto.

The U.S. President said he had ordered the deadly strike to flush out ISIS terrorists in the Northwest.

Trump had accused the terror group of persecuting Christians in Nigeria.

In a post on social media, Trump said he had directed a “powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” who he said had been killing innocent people.

U.S. Africa Command said the strike killed multiple terrorists at the request of Nigerian authorities in Sokoto State, which borders Niger to the north.

The claim could not be verified as at the time of filing this report.

“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.

“Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical terrorism to prosper. May God bless our military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues,” added the president, who is spending the Christmas holiday at his estate in Palm Beach.

In a separate post on social media, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said he was “grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation”.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Daniel Bwala, told CNN: “The U.S. and Nigeria are on the same page in the fight against terrorism.”

Trump has focused for the last several months on terrorist activities, including calling in November on his secretary of defence to “prepare for possible action” and warning the U.S. would enter Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” to protect the Christian population of Africa’s most populous country.

On Christmas Eve, Tinubu shared a “Christmas Goodwill Message” in which he wished Christians across his nation and the world a merry Christmas and prayed for peace among individuals of differing religious beliefs.

“I stand committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect Christians, Muslims, and all Nigerians from violence,” President Tinubu said in a post on X.

A delegation of senior Nigerian officials had visited the U.S. to hold talks with their counterpart.

The team, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had explained the government position.

The team said the terrorists have no specific target.

A delegation made mainly of U.S Congressmen had also visited Nigeria.

Both countries had raised a joint committee to deepen talks.

  • Governors seek peaceful co-existence

    • Tuggar urges Nigerians to recommit to dialogue, mutual respect

    • Adeboye to citizens: embrace Jesus as your priceless gift

Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Alex Otti (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo) yesterday urged Nigerians to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual religious respect for national cohesion.

Governor Abiodun assured Ogun State residents that his administration would record a seamless, peaceful and rancour-free transition at the end of his second term in 2027.

The governor promised to set a historic benchmark in the state’s governance history.

Abiodun spoke yesterday during the Christmas church service at St. James’ Anglican Church, Iperu-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area.

The governor said his administration was determined to be the first in Ogun State’s history to successfully hand over power without acrimony.

“As we approach 2027, not only will we finish well and finish strong, by the grace of God this administration will hand over successfully to a successor.

“It will be the first peaceful transition in the 50-year history of Ogun State. By God’s grace, I will sit down as your governor at my send-forth ceremony and also sit at the swearing-in ceremony of my successor,” Abiodun said.

The governor attributed his confidence to what he called solid governance, economic expansion and people-focused development recorded under his watch.

He added that Ogun State’s economy has grown significantly since he assumed office.

According to him, the state’s annual budget has expanded from about N355 billion at the inception of his administration to over N2.7 trillion, reflecting increased economic activities and growing investor confidence.

“Our economy has grown almost five times from what we met on ground. New factories and industries are springing up across the state. We have reconstructed over 2,000 schools, created jobs, empowered farmers and expanded opportunities for our people — and we are not done yet. We need your prayers to finish strong,” he said.

Otti urged Abia residents to bear the light of Christ with love and compassion.

The governor advised them to celebrate the festive period in moderation and avoid acts that show recklessness and carelessness.

In his Christmas celebration message, titled: “The Light of Christmas,” Otti said: “Let us remember our brothers and sisters who may have been incapacitated by the miseries of ill-health and several others who, on account of the shipwrecks of life, are unable to cater for themselves independently.

“May I charge us not to forget the reason for the season. Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Everything should be done with moderation.”

In Oyo State, Governor Makinde described Christmas as a season of love, with Christ’s birth as the essence of the festival.

The governor said Christians must show love to others and live at peace, in line with the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He urged the residents to pay close attention to their environment as they go about celebrating the Yuletide.

He noted that securing the state remained a responsibility for the government and the governed.

Makinde advised them to report suspicious movements to security agencies through the Citizen Emergency Number 615, saying the principle, “if you see something, say something” remained in force.

He said: “This is to wish our Christian brethren and, indeed, all residents of Oyo State and Nigeria a Merry Christmas.

“Christmas, as we all know, symbolises love as exemplified by the miraculous but humble birth of the Lord Jesus Christ; thus, we must live the message and the essence of the festival.

“Let me also use the opportunity to charge residents of the state to be vigilant and observant as they go about merrying. As a government, we have been up to the task in terms of securing the state but there is still a role for residents to play. This is why we always say that if you see something, say something and your government will do something.

“The Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number 615 is active, please call to report any emergency or suspicion of criminality and our rapid response system will be activated to bring the situation under control.”

In Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang affirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen peace and security across the state through inclusive, community-based security outfit Operation Rainbow.

Speaking at the passingout parade of 1,450 recruited and trained operatives of the state-owned security outfit, the governor noted that peace and security remain central to his administration.

He said: “Security remains the bedrock upon which sustainable development is built. Without peace, there can be no meaningful progress, investment or prosperity.”

Mutfwang said his administration prioritised community-based security initiatives, adding: “Effective security begins from within our communities, which is why we have strengthened vigilante and community support structures as partners in our broader security architecture.”

The governor urged the operatives to act professionally in the discharge of their duties.

In Kogi State, Governor Ododo called for continuous support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms.

The governor urged Christians across the state to reflect on the teachings of Jesus Christ and imbibe them in their daily dealings.

He sought the prayers of the Christian community for Nigeria and to live the lives of service, humility, love, and sacrifice, as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

In his Christmas message to the residents, Ododo described Christmas as a season of deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and recommitment to the values that bind humanity together.

The governor advised the citizens to place the nation at the centre of their prayers.

Ododo noted that Nigeria is at a defining moment in its history and requires the collective prayers, goodwill, and responsible actions of all citizens to strengthen unity, peace, and national prosperity.

He hailed President Tinubu’s bold and people-focused reforms.

According to him, these are already expanding opportunities and prosperity across the country, with Kogi State benefiting significantly from improved fiscal space, increased investments, and renewed confidence in governance.

Also, Governor Nwifuru told Ebonyi State residents to pray for security, economic growth, and harmony among the people.

In his Christmas message, the governor said the season emphasises the need to live in peace with one another, to forgive, to unite, and to place the collective good above personal interests

He added: “As we celebrate the glorious birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, my heart is filled with gratitude, hope, and deep reflection.

“Christmas is a powerful reminder of God’s boundless love, a season when heaven touched the earth and redemption was given freely to mankind.”

Nwifuru urged Christians to emulate Jesus Christ by demonstrating love for one another, sacrifice, humility, and obedience to God.

“In a time when our nation yearns for healing, this message has never been more important than now.

“I sincerely urge all Christians to use this sacred season to pray earnestly for peace, unity, and all-round development of Ebonyi State in particular and our dear country, Nigeria in general”

“In this Christmas season, I urge us to pray for security, economic growth, and harmony among our people, so that our land may prosper under God’s divine guidance.”

In Imo State, Governor Uzodimma yesterday urged fellow Nigerians to make humility and love their watchword as they celebrate Christmas.

The governor advised Christians to embrace unity, gratitude, and compassion during and beyond the Yuletide season.

He described them as the rare qualities which Jesus Christ’s birth symbolises.

Uzodimma emphasised the importance of being practising Christians and the danger inherent in being nominal ones.

The governor spoke at the Imo State Government House Annex, Eziachi, Orlu, at the 2025 Christmas Carol.

He described Christmas as more than a festive period, stressing that it is “a time for deep spiritual introspection on our faith and the shared values that define our humanity”.

Uzodimma acknowledged the difficulties faced by many families and expressed gratitude for life.

He said: “It is not because we have been more deserving than those who have passed; it is purely by God’s boundless mercy.”

Uzodimma urged leaders and citizens alike to reflect Christ-like virtues of humility and love.

The governor noted that “both leaders and the led are called to embody the simplicity, love, and compassion demonstrated by Christ”.

Also, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to religious freedom, peaceful coexistence, national unity, and the protection of all faiths.

The minister said this in his message to Christian faithful on the celebration of this year’s Christmas..

The minister stressed that Nigeria would continue to strengthen its institutions to protect all religious adherents, ensure social cohesion, and promote harmonious coexistence across the country.

He stressed that the safety, dignity, and rights of Nigerians of all faiths at home and in the diaspora remain a priority of government policy and diplomatic engagement.

“The Nigerian state is founded on the principle of freedom of worship and mutual respect among its people.

“We are resolute in reinforcing our institutions to uphold these values, deepen interfaith understanding, and ensure that no citizen is excluded or marginalised on account of belief,” Tuggar said.

The minister described the Christmas session as a time of reflection, compassion, and renewal, underscoring values that resonate deeply with Nigeria’s diverse religious and cultural heritage.

He said Christmas offers an opportunity to recommit to dialogue, mutual respect, and shared responsibility in safeguarding peace and stability within communities.

Also, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to embrace Jesus Christ as the only gift without limitation.

Adeboye said this yesterday at the Christmas Party with Daddy G.O., organised by RCCG’s Region 1, 36, 52 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

In his sermon, tagged: “The Priceless Gift,” Adeboye emphasised that God has given the world the priceless gift of Christ, adding that accepting the gift opens the door to all associated blessings.

“The echo is simple: the only gift that has no limitation is the priceless gift, the gift of the Lord Jesus Christ. God has given the whole world this gift,” he said, calling on everyone to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior so that blessings of healing, victory, favour, breakthrough, and prosperity can be released in their lives.

Adeboye reassured believers that by next year, those who are sick or seeking divine intervention will experience answered prayers.

“One of the blessings of the gift of Jesus is healing. Those who are sick will receive their healing. One of the blessings is victory. If you are being pursued by the enemy, you can be sure your enemy will not overcome you,” he said.

He also urged Nigerians to live lives that reflect Christ’s character.

Adeboye said: “Christ came to save mankind from sin. Our attitude as Nigerians should be to accept Jesus and ensure that our lives resemble Him. Jesus is truthful; let us be truthful. Jesus is holy; let us be holy. Jesus is merciful; let us be merciful. Jesus is compassionate; let us be compassionate.”

Presidency: Gbajabiamila not replaced as Chief of Staff

The Presidency yesterday dismissed the reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had removed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and replaced him with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

In a statement in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the reports, which circulated widely on social media, as a “viral falsehood” with no basis in fact, urging Nigerians to disregard them entirely.

“The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a viral falsehood circulating on social media suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola,” the statement said.

It stressed that there was “absolutely no truth to this story,” stressing that both officials remain firmly in their respective positions.

“The Chief of Staff remains in his position. The Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff,” the Presidency stated.

According to the statement, the claim was a deliberate fabrication aimed at sowing discord within the government.

The Presidency described those behind it as “mischievous purveyors of fake news” bent on creating disharmony.

It cautioned the media and social media users on the dangers of spreading unverified information, urging journalists and platforms to uphold professional standards of verification before publishing or sharing reports.

    • Party’s faction to citizens: don’t lose hope in Nigeria

The Labour Party (LP) faction, led by Julius Abure as its National Chairman, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the broom – the symbol of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – to sweep away corruption from the country.

Abure said this in a statement yesterday in Abuja by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, to mark the Christmas celebration.

Abure noted that no government can survive until corruption is fought to a standstill.

The LP factional national chairman noted that Jesus Christ was an example of a corruption-free leader, who the scriptures documented to have exposed one of his disciples found to be corrupt.

He urged Nigerians to pray more during this season, particularly on the security challenges across the country.

Abure applauded the gallant efforts of the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and every other paramilitary outfit for ensuring that peace prevails within the season and beyond.

He also urged President Tinubu to ensure that the military is equipped to do its job.

The LP national chairman stressed that until leaders of today imbibe the sacrificial attributes of the nation’s founding fathers, including Malam Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Belo, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Malam Aminu Kano, amongst others, Nigeria would continue to struggle.

Also, LP’s Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope in their country.

She said the country remains the only home they have, calling for resilience, courage, and collective determination.

Mrs. Usman said this in a statement to fellow citizens on the celebration of this year’s Christmas.

The statement said: “As we observe this sacred season, I urge Nigerians to reflect deeply on the life and earthly journey of Jesus Christ, and on the profound significance of Christmas to the Christian faith. Christmas is not merely a festive occasion; it is a reminder of love, sacrifice, humility, and service to humanity.

“I, therefore, enjoin everyone to exemplify the true meaning of Christmas by extending love, compassion, and empathy to one another. At a time when our country continues to grapple with the scourge of poverty, insecurity, and other social vices occasioned by poor leadership, the Christmas season should serve as a rallying point for unity and love. It is only through the love symbolised by Christ’s birth that Nigerians can confront despair, heal divisions, and overcome hopelessness.

“While I acknowledge that this is an era of anomie for our nation, I urge our beleaguered citizens not to lose hope in Nigeria. This country remains the only home we have. I, therefore, call for resilience, courage, and collective determination as we continue the struggle for justice, equity, and good governance.

“I also use this opportunity to call on those in positions of authority to emulate the virtues of Christ, whose birth we celebrate in this season. Our celebration of Christmas should not be symbolic alone, but must be reflected in sincere actions, selfless leadership, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on his 76th birthday, and former Ogun State Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun.

The President also extended warm greetings to Budget and Economic Planning Minister Atiku Bagudu on his 64th birthday, and the Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, on his 62nd birthday.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President applauded Ganduje’s enduring contributions to governance and party building, describing him as a dependable political ally who has served the country in various capacities with dedication.

President Tinubu noted that Ganduje’s career cuts across the federal and state levels, recalling his early years as a senior administrator in the Federal Capital Territory before he was recalled to Kano State to serve as Commissioner for Works under a military administration.

The President further highlighted Ganduje’s elected service, including his tenure as a two-term Deputy Governor of Kano State and his subsequent election to two consecutive terms as Governor of the state, positions in which he played key roles in public administration and infrastructure development.

Ganduje, who later became the National Chairman of the APC, is currently the Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), where he oversees policy direction in the country’s aviation sector.

“I will forever appreciate Ganduje’s friendship and close collaboration at different times and his services to the APC,” President Tinubu said, acknowledging the former party chairman’s role in strengthening the ruling party.

In another statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President joined family, friends and political associates in celebrating Adesegun, describing him as a dependable party stalwart and patriot whose contributions to Ogun State and the nation span student activism, legislative service and executive responsibilities.

President Tinubu noted that the celebrant, who is currently an ambassador-designate, previously served Ogun State twice as Commissioner for Works and Housing and also as a legislator, before rising to the position of deputy governor, where he played a key role in governance and infrastructure development.

The President recalled Adesegun’s early leadership roots as a student leader in the 1970s at Obafemi Awolowo University, then known as the University of Ife, and said he had remained consistent in his political convictions since emerging as a frontline political actor in the 1990s.

He particularly highlighted Adesegun’s role in the pro-democracy struggle following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by the late MKO Abiola, noting that the Ogun-born politician risked his life alongside other progressives to defend the sanctity of the mandate.

“Ambassador-designate Adesegun’s patriotism and commitment to democracy were clearly on display when he defied all odds, along with some of us, to fight for the sanctity of the June 12 mandate of the late MKO Abiola,” the President said, adding that the former deputy governor had since remained steadfast in his pursuit of progressive and accountable governance.

Felicitating Bagudu on his 64th birthday, President Tinubu applauded his years of dedication to public service and nation-building.

In a statement by Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Bagudu’s long record in public office, noting his contributions to governance at the legislative, executive and ministerial levels.

The President recalled that as the senator representing Kebbi Central between 2009 and 2015, Bagudu played a key role in policy formulation, particularly in the areas of budgeting and economic planning.

He also highlighted Bagudu’s tenure as a two-term governor of Kebbi State, during which he oversaw wide-ranging reforms in agriculture, industrialisation and revenue mobilisation, initiatives that helped position the state as a model of economic growth and development in the North-West.

Describing the minister as a trusted ally, the President said: “Senator Bagudu is a worthy associate who proved his mettle as governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.”

He added that Bagudu’s performance in the current administration had remained noteworthy.

“His hard work, dedication and invaluable contributions as a member of our Renewed Hope Agenda Team, where he serves as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, are remarkable.”

In his congratulatory message to Otunba Ashiru, President Tinubu lauded his contributions to economic development and nation-building.

In a statement by Onanuga, President Tinubu described Ashiru as a “quintessential gentleman, bridge builder, and advocate of economic development,” whose career spans impactful service in both the private and public sectors.

The President noted that Ashiru, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), has distinguished himself as a professional marketing and strategic management expert with a track record of excellence.

Recalling his service in government, Tinubu highlighted Ashiru’s tenure as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Ogun State, where his tenacity and innovative approach earned him the Commissioner of the Year award.

The President also acknowledged Ashiru’s experience in the banking sector as a former director of Stanbic IBTC Bank, noting that the blend of private-sector insight and public-service experience has continued to shape his leadership.

According to the statement, Ashiru has remained outstanding in his current role as Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, where his leadership has contributed to the growth and development of businesses and strengthened the wider business community in Nigeria.

President Tinubu prayed for “tremendous joy, continued peace, and excellent health” for Ashiru and his family in the years ahead.

President Tinubu wished the celebrants many more years of good health and sustained impact in national service.
