Living independently can feel so much different when you are older. Everyday actions such as moving throughout the home, cooking, or showering can feel quite dangerous and precarious. The simple act of tripping or falling can become a frightening health crisis very quickly.

It is certainly easy to believe that you will just call a son, daughter, or close family friend if something happens. However, we all know emergencies do not happen at the right time. At that time, your phone might be out of reach, or you can’t move at all. In these situations, you may feel alone and powerless while waiting for help to arrive.

This is where a medical alert system becomes so valuable for seniors across Canada. If you fall, you can either push a button on your device or an automatic sensor on your device alerts a trained expert promptly. It is beyond helpful to have a good friend in your pocket 24/7, without sacrificing your independence.

Let’s find out how today’s medical alert systems bring safety, confidence, and peace of mind to Canadian seniors and their families.

    1. 24/7 Emergency Monitoring

One of the most reassuring features of a medical alert device is its around-the-clock protection. Whether you live in a busy Toronto apartment or a quiet rural town in Alberta, knowing that someone is always watching out for you can make all the difference.

Life Assure’s life alert for seniors connects you directly to trained response professionals—24 hours a day, seven days a week. These associates are always ready to assess your situation and send help immediately when you need it most.

Imagine the peace of mind that comes from knowing that if you fall, feel dizzy, or have sudden chest pain when you’re alone, a professional responder can reach out instantly. You don’t have to shout for help or fumble with your phone. With one press of a button, you’re connected to someone who can guide you and send help immediately.

    2. Automatic Fall Detection

Falls are one of the foremost concerns of older adults, and they often occur without warning—when you are getting out of bed, when climbing stairs, or when exiting a shower. If you fall and find yourself incapable of reaching your device or phone, it’s too late.

Today’s medical alert systems address this problem by incorporating automatic fall detection. The sensors that are built into the device recognize sudden movement or impact and alert the monitoring center immediately. Even if you can’t push the button, help is already on its way.

For those who live alone or spend extended time in areas like the bathroom, this aspect of the device is very reassuring. Just knowing that a reaction is automatic takes away a lot of fear and unknowns.

    3. Immediate Connection to Help

In a case of an emergency, each second counts. Any moment of delay may alter the ending; hence, these gadgets have been designed to communicate instantly.

With the help button—or through automatic fall detection—you’re immediately connected to a live response associate via its two-way communication system. You can describe what happened, and they can quickly assess your needs. Whether you need an ambulance, a neighbor, or just reassurance, help is dispatched right away. This immediate contact takes the panic out of an emergency.

    4. Backup Power for Emergencies

A good word to describe the weather in Canada is unpredictable; power outages are also common, particularly in winter months and during storms. Fortunately, many modern medical alert systems have a backup power source that will keep them working for more than 30 hours.

This means that if the lights go off or if your area has a power outage, you still have a connection to help. You won’t have to worry about being cut off at the most crucial times when you need help. You can feel a sense of peace and security knowing that your safety system continues to function when the power goes out.

    5. Waterproof Design

Bathrooms are among the most frequent accident sites. Wet floors, slippery tiles, or small areas can make simple movements hazardous. Many medical alert devices are also designed to be waterproof, which means you can wear them in the bath or shower without removing them.

This minor but important feature can make a significant difference. No second thoughts about taking a shower or washing up. Your medical alert device is with you, ready to help, in all scenarios and locations. So you will receive consistent protection from the early morning personal care routine through bedtime.

    6. GPS Tracking and Mobility

Safety extends beyond your front door. Today’s systems come with GPS-enabled mobile devices, so regardless of where you go, you will continue to be safe.

When you are running errands, visiting family, or just going for a walk, GPS tracking will give responders your exact location within seconds if something happens. Having GPS tracking is extremely helpful for seniors who lead an active lifestyle or live in larger areas, where it would take longer to locate someone.

    7. Simple, User-Friendly Design

Many seniors feel that using a medical alert device may be complicated or confusing. Fortunately, modern designs are made to be very simple to use.

Set-up is easy-just frequently just a question of charging the device or plugging in a base unit. When it’s ready, you can wear it as a lightweight pendant or comfortable wristband. The buttons are large and clearly labeled, while the alerts are both easy to hear and understand.

    8. Support for Families

Medical alert devices provide comfort not only for seniors but for families alike. Understanding that medical personnel are only a button push away provides reassurance for children, caregivers, and other family members.

It’s comforting to know that your family will receive immediate assistance if something happens. They don’t have to make anxious phone calls or worry about your safety. They get to focus on their daily commitments without fear or guilt.

    Conclusion

Today in Canada, modern medical alert systems have changed the meaning of independence for seniors.  With monitoring services available 24/7, automatic fall detection, immediate access to trained responders, GPS tracking, waterproof capabilities, and backup power, their products encompass total safety at home or on the go.

They combine safety, mobility, and simplicity to promote confidence without losing independence when wearing a medical alert system (device).  When you purchase one of their medical alert devices, you will never feel completely alone, wherever you are or whatever happens.

Why I left my crashed car with UK police – Don Jazzy

Music executive Don Jazzy has addressed a police case from his early career in the UK, denying claims he evaded law enforcement after a car accident.

His former associate Bankulli had alleged Don Jazzy removed the vehicle’s plate and fled the scene, citing the incident as a reason for not including the story in an Afrobeats documentary.

According to Bankulli, Don Jazzy was involved in an accident, abandoned the car and removed the number plate to avoid consequences.

“I refused to put a particular story about Don Jazzy in the Afrobeats documentary. Because Don Jazzy was trying to survive in London, he had an accident and the car got destroyed. Don Jazzy abandoned the car. He was coming from a show and he fell asleep while driving and crashed his car.

“He left the car, removed the plate number and ran away. Why? Because you would pay more to carry the car away from there than to repair it. But look at Jazzy now, he has fleets of cars,” Bankulli said.

Reacting to Bankulli’s revelation, an X user berated him, expressing fear that the case could be reopened if Don Jazzy were to visit the UK now that his former associate had made the incident public.

“With this reckless talk from Bankulli, I really hope Don Jazzy isn’t planning a trip to London. They can reopen a 20-year-old case,” the X user wrote.

However, Don Jazzy refuted this claim, stating he waited for police, passed a breathalyser test and had the car impounded.

In a response on X, Don Jazzy explained, “Lol no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if I was drunk. I wasn’t but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol”.

Paystack fired me unfairly, says co-founder Ezra Olubi

Ezra Olubi, co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Paystack, has disclosed that he was fired by the company over allegations of s3xual misconduct, claiming the termination was unfair.

Olubi broke his silence in a blog post published on Sunday November 23, 2025.

The controversy began when Max ‘Makispoke’ Obae accused Olubi of misogyny and shared their troubled past on an X Space.

Olubi’s old tweets containing s3xually explicit and disturbing statements resurfaced, fueling accusations of misogyny, pedophilia, bestiality and predatory behavior.

Paystack initially suspended Olubi on November 12 and launched a formal investigation.

However, Olubi confirmed his termination in a blog post, stating he was dismissed before the investigation concluded and without a hearing.

READ ALSO; Let’s rethink schools’ closure

Olubi expressed concern that his silence during the probe created a vacuum allowing assumptions and misrepresentations to spread.

His statement reads: “Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online. In response, the Board of Directors of Paystack placed me on suspension and initiated what was described as an “independent” investigation.

“Once that process began, I chose not to make any public statements. I did this to avoid interfering with the investigation and because I expected a fair, thorough and unbiased review of the allegations being discussed online. This created a vacuum that allowed assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.

“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always, to the best of my ability, conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety.

“On Saturday, 22 November 2025, I was informed that my employment had been terminated. This decision was taken before the supposed investigation was concluded, and without any meeting, hearing, or opportunity for me to respond to the issues raised, in clear contravention of the terms of the suspension and Paystack’s own internal policies.

“As co-founder, technical leader and long-serving Board member, I have been part of instituting the systems and processes that underpin Paystack’s internal operations. I engaged with this investigation in good faith and cooperated fully with the Board’s directives on that basis.”

He maintained the resurfaced posts don’t reflect his conduct or values and is reviewing the termination process with his legal team.

“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies. They will take the steps they consider appropriate, and I will not be commenting further on this matter at this time,” he added.

Paystack hasn’t issued a public statement since Olubi’s alleged termination, and Stripe, its parent company, remains silent.

  • How Long Do Delta 9 Gummies Last in Your System?

How Long Do Delta 9 Gummies Last in Your System?

The cannabis industry has been reshaped by the surge in hemp-derived Delta-9 THC products, especially gummies, which have become a preferred format for both new and experienced consumers. Their precise dosing, shelf stability, and familiarity make them accessible, but they also raise questions about longevity, how long the effects last, and how long Delta-9 remains detectable in the body. These concerns aren’t limited to individual consumers; they matter to employers, healthcare professionals, regulatory agencies, and cannabis businesses that prioritize transparency and consumer education.

Understanding how long Delta-9 stays in the system requires more than a simple timeline. The human body processes cannabinoids in complex ways, influenced by metabolism, dosage, frequency of use, individual physiology, and testing methods. When Delta-9 is infused into gummies, the digestion process changes absorption and duration compared to inhaled forms. For the cannabis industry, communicating these distinctions accurately is vital to setting responsible expectations.

This article explores how Delta 9 gummies interact with the body, how long their effects last, how long the compound remains in various biological systems, and the factors that influence detection windows.

How Delta-9 THC Works Inside the Body

Delta-9 THC interacts with the endocannabinoid system, primarily binding to CB1 receptors in the brain and central nervous system. This interaction produces the cannabinoid’s characteristic psychoactive effects. When consumed through gummies, Delta-9 undergoes a digestive journey that significantly alters its timing and impact.

Instead of entering the bloodstream quickly through the lungs, as with smoking or vaping, ingested Delta-9 is metabolized in the liver. During this process, the body converts it into 11-hydroxy-THC, a metabolite known for its more substantial psychoactive potential and longer-lasting effects. This conversion helps explain why gummy-based experiences can feel more potent or persistent than inhaled cannabis, even at lower milligram levels.

The digestive route also means effects take longer to appear. Consumers may wait 45 minutes to two hours before feeling noticeable changes. The delayed onset has shaped how the industry educates consumers, reminding them to avoid “stacking” doses too quickly and to allow the body time to metabolize the first serving.

How Long Do the Effects of Delta 9 Gummies Typically Last

The duration of noticeable effects varies, but most consumers experience a window of four to eight hours. Several factors contribute:

Metabolism plays a central role. Individuals with faster metabolic rates break down cannabinoids more efficiently, shortening the effect duration. Those with slower metabolism may experience a longer window of impact.

Dosage also matters. A 10 mg gummy may produce milder effects lasting a shorter period, while 25 mg or 50 mg doses, which some experienced consumers prefer, can extend the overall experience.

Body composition influences duration as well. THC is fat-soluble, meaning it binds to fatty tissues and is released gradually. Individuals with higher body fat percentages may retain cannabinoids longer, affecting both the length of the experience and overall detection windows.

Finally, tolerance affects the feel and duration. Regular consumers tend to metabolize Delta-9 more predictably, while new users may experience effects that feel stronger or last longer due to unfamiliarity.

Gummy-based experiences, by nature, create a slow rise and gradual decline. Instead of an immediate peak, the effects settle in gently, remain steady for several hours, and taper off gradually.

How Long Does Delta-9 THC Stay Detectable in the Human Body

The presence of Delta-9 in the body lasts far beyond the subjective effects. Once metabolized, THC and its metabolites are stored temporarily in fat cells and slowly released into the bloodstream. As a result, detection windows can vary widely depending on the test type.

    Urine Detection

Urine testing remains the most common form of cannabinoid screening, mainly because it is inexpensive and widely available. For occasional gummy users, Delta-9 metabolites may remain detectable for three to five days. For moderate users, this window can extend to a week or more. Daily or heavy users may test positive for several weeks, inบาง cases up to 30 days or more.

The extended detection is primarily due to THC’s fat-solubility and slow release, not because the compound remains psychoactive. Once the subjective effects fade, metabolites stay for far longer.

    Blood Detection

Blood tests capture a much shorter window because THC levels drop quickly after peak effects. Most consumers will test positive for only 24 to 48 hours after eating a Delta-9 gummy. Heavy users, however, may extend that window slightly due to accumulation.

Blood testing is most often used in medical settings, accident investigations, or impairment cases, not by standard employers.

    Saliva Detection

Saliva tests detect shorter windows than urine. Edible users typically show positive results for six to 24 hours. Because gummies do not coat the mouth the way smoking or vaping does, they may be detectable for less time in oral fluid tests.

    Hair Detection

Hair testing captures the longest window, sometimes up to 90 days. Cannabinoid metabolites can be incorporated into hair follicles and remain trapped there as hair grows. This form of testing is less common because it is expensive and not considered exceptionally reliable at distinguishing between light and heavy use.

Factors That Influence How Long Delta-9 Stays in the System

The variability in detection isn’t accidental. Multiple physiological and lifestyle factors influence how long Delta-9 remains traceable.

One major factor is frequency of use. Occasional gummy consumers metabolize and eliminate cannabinoids faster than daily users. The body accumulates metabolites over time, especially in fatty tissues, and frequent consumption slows clearance.

Dose matters as well. A single low-dose gummy produces fewer metabolites, allowing the body to clear it faster. Higher milligram amounts not only intensify effects but also increase the metabolic workload the body must process.

Hydration levels influence how quickly metabolites are cleared from the system. While water cannot erase THC, consistent hydration supports natural metabolic processes, including urine elimination.

Exercise plays a subtle role. Physical activity can promote fat metabolism, releasing stored metabolites into circulation. In rare cases, strenuous exercise shortly before drug testing could cause a temporary increase in detectable metabolites, although this effect is typically mild.

Diet, overall health, and medications also contribute. The liver processes most cannabinoids, so individuals with liver conditions may metabolize Delta-9 more slowly. Conversely, individuals with high metabolic efficiency process cannabinoids faster.

These variables highlight the importance of personalized understanding rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all timeline.

Industry Implications and Why Businesses Care About These Timelines

Delta-9 detection windows matter beyond consumer curiosity. They shape how cannabis businesses educate their customers, craft packaging warnings, and develop responsible messaging. Companies operating in highly regulated markets must provide accurate, science-backed information about onset, dosage, and duration.

Product development teams also consider metabolic timelines when creating formulation blends. For example, nanoemulsion technologies are used by some manufacturers to reduce onset time and shorten the overall effect duration. The predictability appeals to consumers seeking more control over their experience.

Retailers and budtenders rely on clear, science-based guidance to prevent dosing mistakes, particularly for new users who may misunderstand edible timing and inadvertently consume more than needed. Businesses emphasizing education build stronger consumer trust and reduce the risk of negative experiences.

At the policy level, understanding Delta-9 metabolism supports conversations around workplace testing standards, impairment research, and regulatory frameworks for hemp-derived THC products. As states continue to refine their rules for intoxicating hemp products, the science of detection will play an increasing role in legislative decision-making.

How Consumers Can Manage Their Experience Responsibly

Understanding how long Delta-9 gummies last in the body helps consumers make informed decisions about timing, dosage, and situations where THC use may not be appropriate. For many, it’s not about avoiding detection; it’s about planning consumption to align with their lifestyle.

Individuals who want longer-lasting effects may prefer higher doses or formulations that are daytime-safe. Those using gummies for relaxation or sleep tend to choose evening timing to avoid lingering effects the next day.

Because gummies take longer to metabolize, consumers benefit from spacing doses carefully. Time discipline prevents unintentional overconsumption, especially since edibles have a delayed onset.

And finally, consumers must avoid driving or operating machinery after taking Delta-9, even if they feel only mild effects. The body may still be processing the compound, and even subtle impairment can affect reaction time and decision-making.

    Conclusion

Delta-9 gummies have reshaped the cannabis landscape with their easy dosing, long-lasting effects, and consumer-friendly format. But the same features that make them appealing also require a responsible understanding of how long they stay active and detectable in the body. While effects may last only a few hours, metabolites persist for much longer and are influenced by metabolism, dosage, body composition, frequency of use, and testing method.

For the cannabis industry, communicating these timelines clearly isn’t just helpful; it’s essential. Accurate information strengthens consumer trust, supports regulatory compliance, and reinforces the industry’s commitment to transparency. For consumers, the knowledge ensures safer, more intentional use, aligning Delta-9 gummies with modern wellness patterns rather than guesswork.

How Tinubu coordinated rescue of 38 kidnapped Eruku church members – security sources

The personal coordination of the strategies presented by heads of security agencies by President Bola Tinubu led to the successful rescue of all the 38 kidnapped church worshippers of Eruku, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) around 3.20 pm on Sunday, The Nation has gathered.

Several AK-47 – wielding men last Wednesday invaded the Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, Kwara State, shooting at worshippers.

At the end of the bloody attack which was inadvertently streamed live, two worshippers lay dead with several others wounded. The gunmen thereafter fled into the bushes with 38 other worshippers, triggering international outrage.

It was learnt from trusted security sources that the President had personally taken charge of coordinating the operations, taking round-the-clock briefings, weighing the options, and resolving to go to extreme lengths to prove wrong all those accusing his administration of not protecting Christians and non-Christians enough.

The sources further disclosed that the President’s personal involvement triggered an unprecedented intelligence mapping and aerial surveillance by Office of the NSA, resulting in DSS operatives swapping on established coordinates in the forests of Oreke Okeigbo, in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State.

It was further gathered that the President approved the Sunday raid by the DSS and the Nigeria Air Force, culminating in the rescue of the victims.

The sources said the operation was highly classified, so were not certain if the kidnappers fled on sighting the security operatives, or were eliminated.

The sources drew attention to the fact that some gunmen in June attacked a marble mining company in the same area, killing two policemen and kidnapped some Chinese workers.

A breakdown of the 38 rescued kidnapped church worshippers showed that 26 of them are females while the remaining 12 are males.

The oldest victim is 67 years old while the youngest worshipper is five. Four other rescued victims are six, nine years old respectively.

Two of them are 10 years old; three are in their pre-teens, four are teenagers while the rest are between 20 and 58 years old, the sources disclosed.

  • Leveraging Enterprise Risk Management to Enhance Performance and Operational Efficiency in GOEs and GLCs

Leveraging Enterprise Risk Management to Enhance Performance and Operational Efficiency in GOEs and GLCs

Government-Owned Enterprises (GOEs) and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) occupy a unique and critical space in the global economy. They are tasked with the dual objectives of achieving commercial success and fulfilling vital public policy objectives. This hybrid mandate, however, exposes them to a complex web of risks that are somewhat peculiar to public enterprises, including political interference, conflicting and overlapping mandates, and public scrutiny. To navigate this complexity successfully, a robust Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, underpinned by a well-established risk culture, is not a luxury, but an existential necessity.

The traditional view of risk management as a compliance-only function is dangerously inadequate for today’s GOEs and GLCs. A mature ERM program provides a structured, holistic approach to identifying, assessing, managing, and monitoring all risks across the entire organization, in line with its strategic goals and mandates. It drives performance and builds resilience, improves decision-making and sustains growth. Other benefits of ERM include.

    1.  Safeguarding Public Assets and Trust: GOEs and GLCs are custodians of national wealth and public trust. A major failure be it a financial scandal, a big operational incident, or a failed strategic investment, erodes public confidence and can have severe fiscal consequences for the state. ERM acts as a critical safeguard.

    2.  Navigating the Dual Mandate: ERM provides the framework to balance commercial risks (market, competition, investment) with non-commercial risks (political pressure, operational, regulatory changes). It allows leadership to make informed decisions that align with both profitability and public good.

    3.  Enhancing Strategic Decision-Making: ERM moves risk management from the back office to the boardroom. By integrating risk assessment into strategic planning, organizations can pursue opportunities with a clear understanding of their risk appetite, leading to more sustainable growth.

    4.  Improving Resilience and Operational Continuity: From pandemic attacks to supply chain disruptions, a proactive ERM approach ensures that organizations are prepared, resilient, and can continue operations with minimal disruption.

    5.  Attracting Investment and Maintaining Creditworthiness: A transparent and effective risk governance structure signals to both local and international investors and rating agencies that the company is well-managed, making it easier and cheaper to raise capital and attract investment into the country.

An effective ERM framework is only as strong as the culture that supports it. A “risk-aware culture” means that every employee, from the C-suite to the front lines, understands risk, feels empowered to speak up about concerns, and sees risk management as an integral part of their responsibility. Several leading state-owned entities globally are lauded for their world-class enterprise risk management approach, which has been central to their success and resilience.

    1. Temasek Holdings (Singapore): As a global investment powerhouse and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, Temasek is a prime example of ERM excellence. Its success is built on a foundation of rigorous risk governance.

Robust Framework: Temasek employs a dedicated, independent risk group that reports directly to the Board. The ERM process is deeply integrated into their investment decision-making.

Clear Risk Appetite: Temasek has a well-defined risk appetite statement that guides portfolio construction, balancing exposure across geographies, industries, and asset classes.

Culture of Discipline: The famed “Temasek Charter” underscores their role as a steward of Singapore’s financial future, instilling a culture of disciplined, long-term value creation and risk awareness at all levels.

    2. Equinor (Norway): Formerly Statoil, this majority government-owned energy company operates in one of the world’s most high-risk industries. Its world-class safety and risk management culture is its greatest asset.

-Operational Risk Paramount: Equinor’s ERM is legendary for its focus on operational integrity, particularly in harsh environments like the North Sea. Their “Tripod” model for incident investigation is an industry standard.

-Strategic Pivot with Risk in Mind: Recognizing the risks of climate change and the energy transition, Equinor has strategically diversified into offshore wind and other renewables. This strategic shift was undoubtedly guided by a forward-looking ERM process that identified stranded asset risk and the opportunity in green energy.

-Psychological Safety: They have cultivated an environment where any employee can “Stop the Work” if they perceive an unsafe condition, demonstrating a deeply ingrained risk-aware culture.

    3. Ministry of Finance Incorporated-MOFI (Nigeria): Restructured in 2023, MOFI serves as the Federal Government of Nigeria’s primary investment driver and asset manager. With strong risk management frameworks and governance structures, MOFI exemplifies how Government-Owned Enterprises (GOEs) can achieve superior performance through effective Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).

    – Risk Ownership and Awareness Culture: MOFI fosters a culture where every staff member is responsible for identifying risks that could affect their objectives, goals, and KPIs. Clear communication and escalation channels ensure that risks are promptly reported and addressed at all levels of the organization. Risk Management is further integrated into performance management process.

    – Risk Governance: The Board requires risk clearance and advice for all major decisions, underscored by the department’s direct reporting line to the Board.

    – Awareness and Capacity Building: Recognizing the vital role of its portfolio companies in fulfilling its mandate and ensuring profitability, MOFI invests significantly in building risk management capacity across its portfolio companies. This is achieved through initiatives such as the Annual Risk Leadership Forum, where C-suite Executives and Risk Leaders from over 30 GOEs/GLCs were equipped with necessary knowledge needed to strengthen risk management processes, practices and improve performance outcomes across GOEs/GLCs. The Risk Technical Workshops, which had Risk Management Staff from 27 GOE/GLCs equipped with technical skills on effective risk framework, policies, processes, culture and risk-based decision making, and the Annual Excellence Award, all aimed at strengthening the risk teams within its portfolio companies.

For GOEs and GLCs looking to strengthen their ERM and culture, the journey involves:

    1.  Leadership Commitment: Secure unwavering sponsorship from the Board and CEO. The Tone from top is critical.

    2.  Develop a Tailored ERM Framework: Adapt global best practices (like COSO ERM and ISO 31000) to the organization’s unique context, mandates, and risk profile.

    3.  Define Risk Appetite: Articulate clearly how much risk the organization is willing to take to achieve its objectives and mandates

    4.  Integrate with Strategy and Performance: Weave risk management into strategic planning, budgeting, and performance management cycles.

    5.  Invest in Communication and Training: Relentlessly communicate the value of ERM and train employees at all levels to be risk managers.

    6.  Measure and Evolve: Continuously monitor the effectiveness of the ERM program and adapt it to face new and emerging risks.

For GOEs and GLCs, the mandate is clear. The question is no longer if they need a sophisticated ERM system, but how quickly they can build one. By learning from global leaders like Temasek, Equinor, and MOFI Nigeria, and by fostering a culture where every employee is a risk aware individual and a risk manager, these entities can protect the public interest, fulfill their strategic roles, and build a legacy of sustainable success and resilience for the nations they serve. The stakes are simply too high to settle for anything less.

He emphasized that achieving sustainable and resilient livelihoods requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and civil society collaborating to innovate and implement procurement policies that prioritize environmental stewardship and social justice.

Prof. Ogbonna urged, “Let us use the lessons learned from this Conference to reaffirm our commitment to embedding equity, justice, and sustainability into procurement processes, advancing environmental and social standards that protect human health and the planet, and building resilient livelihoods that withstand the growing threats of climate change.”

Otunba Adewumi, Ijebu East Chairman, champion NELFUND sensitisation as Ogun records over N785m in disbursements

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has recorded a major milestone in Ogun State following its recent sensitisation programme held at the Crownbirth Event Center, Ijebu-Ife.

The engagement, facilitated by Otunba Femi Adewumi and hosted by Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde (Hacco), Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, has led to a significant increase in awareness and uptake of the NELFUND student loan scheme across the region.

The sensitisation exercise, which brought together parents, guardians, students, community leaders, and educational stakeholders, provided in-depth guidance on how to apply for and access the NELFUND student loan — a Federal Government initiative designed to remove financial barriers to higher education.

To highlight the importance of the initiative, Adewumi noted: “Our goal was simple — to ensure that no student in our communities is left behind because of financial barriers. I am proud of the impact this sensitization has achieved, and I commend NELFUND for delivering real opportunities to our young people.”

NELFUND confirmed the following disbursements for the 2024/2025 academic session, with the institutions below acknowledging receipt of funds:

Sawyerr said: “Our mission is to democratize access to higher education for every Nigerian student, regardless of financial background. The support from community leaders such as Otunba Femi Adewumi and Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde shows what is possible when government institutions and local stakeholders work together.”

He added that NELFUND remains committed to expanding such engagements across all six geopolitical zones to ensure broad awareness and seamless access to the loan scheme.

NELFUND acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of Otunba Femi Adewumi, whose facilitation of the Ijebu-Ife sensitization programme played a critical role in the successful uptake recorded in Ogun State.

The Fund reiterates its dedication to ensuring that every eligible student in Nigeria is informed, supported, and empowered to access the NELFUND student loan.

It noted that more sensitisation exercises and institutional visits are scheduled across the country as part of ongoing nationwide outreach.
