  • Two Assemblies of God pastors fight dirty over church property in Enugu

Two Assemblies of God pastors fight dirty over church property in Enugu

A fresh crisis has broken out in the Assemblies of God Church Nigeria as two pastors – Rev. Okechukwu Obioha and Rev. Isaac Nnaji – clashed over the control and management of a prime church property located at 35 Nanka Street, New Haven, Enugu.

The dispute, which has escalated into open confrontation and a police investigation, centres on who has the legitimate authority to administer the multi-million property.

Rev. Nnaji, recently posted to the New Haven District headquarters where the property is located, reportedly insists that his new position places the asset under his control.

But Rev. Obioha, who has managed the property since 2021, maintains that he remains the lawful custodian based on a Power of Attorney issued to him by the Incorporated Trustees of the church.

The Power of Attorney, signed in August 2021 by the former General Superintendent, Rev. Ejikeme Ejim; former General Treasurer, Rev. Vincent Alaje and the current General Secretary, Rev. Godwin Amaowoh; authorised Obioha to “take possession, administer, manage and superintend” the property on behalf of the national church.

It further empowered him to collect rents, issue quit notices and carry out all actions necessary for effective management.

Trouble erupted on October 30, 2025 when Obioha visited the premises to collect rent from a tenant.

Instead of completing the routine transaction, he alleged he was ambushed by men led by Rev. Nnaji, who warned him never to return to the property.

In a petition to the Commissioner of Police titled “Threat to Life and Malicious Damages”, Obioha narrated that when he demanded to know why he was being confronted, “they enveloped me for the purpose of assaulting me before passers-by intervened to rescue me.”

He added that the heated commotion caused a traffic jam as residents rushed to the scene.

According to him, his attackers fled after issuing a chilling threat: “If they ever see me again on the property, it will only be my dead body that will be seen.”

The pastor said the episode left him traumatised and accused Nnaji’s group of acting with “impunity,” urging the police to intervene to prevent further violence.

A police source confirmed that the Crack Squad of the Enugu State Police Command has begun investigating the matter.

Obioha was interviewed on Monday while Nnaji was summoned for questioning on Tuesday following the Commissioner’s directive.

Contacted, Rev. Nnaji declined to speak. “The case is before the police. I will not talk about it now,” he said.

But in a sharp rebuttal, the General Secretary of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Godwin Amaowoh, insisted that Nnaji had no authority over the property.

He described the district superintendent’s actions as part of ongoing schemes by “unscrupulous elements” to stir renewed crisis in the church.

“The property belongs to the Assemblies of God,” Amaowoh said. “Okechukwu was given a valid Power of Attorney to represent the church. It is unfortunate that we are still experiencing this kind of internal sabotage despite the Supreme Court judgment of 2017.”

He accused Nnaji of “resorting to thuggery in the name of being District Superintendent,” and vowed that the national leadership would reclaim all church assets allegedly withheld during past internal disputes.

Ibadan convention crucial for PDP’s rebirth, must hold – Lagos chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Laja Adeoye, has urged the party to resist any attempt to suspend or postpone its Saturday national convention in Ibadan.

Adeoye in a statement on Thursday in Lagos described those pushing for postponement as selfish and anti-party elements acting against the collective interest of the PDP.

He said, “The national convention should go ahead as planned.

“No distraction, intimidation, or political manipulation should stop this important gathering of our great party.”

He noted that the PDP convention, scheduled for Nov.15 and Nov. 16 at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan with over 20,000 delegates expected nationwide, should not be stopped.

Adeoye said the event would be a defining moment for the PDP as it elects new national officers to steer the party for the next four years.

He praised Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde, for his leadership and readiness to host the convention, describing him as a symbol of unity and progress.

“Governor Makinde has shown outstanding leadership. This convention will strengthen PDP’s unity and boost our chances of returning to power in 2027,” Adeoye stated.

The Lagos PDP chieftain accused some internal saboteurs of working with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the opposition ahead of 2027.

“Those plotting to frustrate the convention are doing the bidding of the APC. Their plans to weaken the PDP will fail,” Adeoye said

He dismissed pending court cases seeking to stop the convention, insisting that the Supreme Court had already resolved all related legal issues.

“Relying on frivolous court cases to stop the convention amounts to an abuse of process and a waste of judicial time,” Adeoye added.

He urged delegates and party members to remain vigilant, united, and focused on rebuilding the PDP into a strong, credible opposition party.

Adeoye also cautioned politicians allegedly scheming to hijack the party’s structure and presidential ticket not to undermine the will of the majority.

“There are individuals who know they cannot win under fair party rules. They are sponsoring distractions, but members must resist them,” he said.

He emphasised that the Ibadan convention would mark a turning point in the PDP.

It would be recalled that following conflicting court judgements on the convention, some PDP leaders, including former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, have called for the suspension of the convention.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), extending his tenure for another five years.

This was contained in a statement on Friday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Marwa, who first assumed the role in January 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, will remain at the helm of the anti-narcotics agency until 2031.

Before his initial appointment, he chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020.

Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1973, he held key positions, including Brigade Major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to then Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Theophilus Danjuma, Deputy Defence Adviser at Nigeria’s Embassy in Washington, DC, and Defence Adviser at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Tinubu described the renewal of Marwa’s mandate as an affirmation of his effectiveness and dedication in Nigeria’s battle against illicit drugs.

“Your reappointment is a vote of confidence in your onerous efforts to rid our country of the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse. I urge you not to relent in tracking the merchants of hard drugs, out to destroy our people, especially the young ones,” the President said.

  • More facts emerge on Wike, Naval officer face-off as FCTA clarifies land status

More facts emerge on Wike, Naval officer face-off as FCTA clarifies land status

Officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA) have taken responsibility for the incident that occurred on Tuesday, at a disputed site on Plot 1946 Gaduwa District, involving the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a naval officer, Lt. A.M Yerima.

A video showing Wike being blocked by naval officers from accessing a disputed property linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), had gone viral.

But the Director of the FCTA Department of Development Control, Tpl Mukhtar Galadima, while providing a detailed account of events and clarifying the legality of the ongoing development, expressed regret over the incident.

Galadima, who spoke to journalists after the FCT Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting, recounted the tense encounter and issued a formal apology for dragging the Minister into the matter.

He said: “It is with a sense of commitment, emotion and regret that we address this press conference on the incident that happened on Tuesday, 11th of November, 2025, at the Gaduwa District.

READ ALSO: NIIA, Korean Embassy seek deeper economic cooperation between Nigeria, Korea

“On the 17th of October, staff of the Department of Development Control on routine monitoring of ongoing development within the respective districts of the Federal Capital City noticed an ongoing development within the corridor of the Southern Parkway and when enquiring the necessary approval status and documents, they were met by stiff resistance and threat to shoot by men of the Nigerian Navy.

“The matter was reported to me on the 18th. I appealed to a colleague and course mate and naval officer, to intervene and prevail on the officers on site to attend to our request. So the request was granted”.

Galadima explained that the officers on site claimed all their approvals were with their lawyers and engineers, and that what was eventually provided was merely a letter of intent issued in 2007 by the Department of Parks and Recreation, not a formal approval.

“We came back on Monday, the same site, I met the officer, Navy Lieutenant Yarima, and I appealed to him, please, if you have this approval, show it to us, because what was sent to us is not an approval, it’s just a letter of intent issued by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

“So, while this discussion was going on, the lawyer came. And the lawyer said, no, the next solution is the Department of Development Control. I said, as a lawyer, there is a clear difference between submission and approval, and you know it is illegal within the prohibitions of the FCT Act of 1976 and the Urban and Regional Planning Law of 1992 to commence development in the Federal Capital Territory without approval. He said he’s aware, but the solution is under process. I said, then this development is illegal”, he added.

Galadima said he sent a distress call to the Minister due to the presence of armed men on site, which led to the public confrontation.

He apologised to the Minister and to Nigerians for the tense situation, while reinforcing that the development was unauthorized.

The director said; “I want to sincerely apologize to the Honorable Minister for dragging him into this situation on that fateful Tuesday. On that fateful Tuesday, when we were there to enforce the directive of the Honorable Minister, we noticed the impending danger because armed men were strategically positioned, ready to shoot.

“And seeing this, I sent a distress call to the Honorable Minister to come to the site for an on-the-spot assessment. And on getting there, that ugly incident happened, which I’m really sorry to the Honorable Minister, I apologize to the Honorable Minister, indeed to all Nigerians for what happened”.

The Director however emphasised that the enforcement was consistent with the laws governing urban development and land use in the FCT, including the FCT Act of 1976 and the Urban and Regional Planning Law of 1992.

The Director of Lands Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, while providing further context on the legal status of the land and why the development could not proceed, maintained that the claimants had no statutory title to the property.

He explained that they were relying on an 18-year-old letter of intent from the Department of Parks and Recreation, which merely allowed them to manage and operate a designated park site, but did not confer any legal right of occupancy or approval to build.

“The claimants have relied on a letter of intent issued by the Department of Parks and Recreation in 2007, 18 years ago, to develop, manage and operate a designated park site. Letter of intent, not statutory right of occupancy. I wish to make it clear that in the FCT, the only thing that gives you title to land is statutory right of occupancy. Letter of intent is not a title.

“Since having not submitted a detailed technical proposal, no lease agreement was given to him. He did not develop and complete development on the site within one year as he didn’t build anything by 2008.”

Nwankwoeze further stated that the letter of intent carried strict conditions, including submission of a detailed technical proposal within 21 days and completion of development within a year—none of which were met by the claimants.

He said; “All they did was after all of those papers were withdrawn, they moved into those sites and started building illegally. Beyond not having title, in Abuja you cannot build anything without approval of the plans you submitted. Because the Department of Development Control will look at your design proposal and certify and ascertain that what you propose to develop is in line with the dictates of the master plan”.

The officials stressed that their interventions were necessary to uphold the rule of law and proper urban planning, while also acknowledging the disruption caused to the Minister and the public perception of the incident.

  • Northern Youth Network mobilises for PDP national convention, backs Makinde

Northern Youth Network mobilises for PDP national convention, backs Makinde

The Northern Youth Network (NYN) has announced plans to mobilise hundreds of young people from the 19 Northern States to attend the forthcoming 2025 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention holding in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The move, according to the group, is a show of solidarity towards the need to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 general elections as well as to pass vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership.

The group, led by Sulaiman Yakubu from Bauchi State, described Makinde as a “symbol of competence, transparency, and modern leadership,” citing his administration’s remarkable achievements in infrastructure development, fiscal prudence, and youth empowerment in Oyo State.

The group noted that PDP is the only party in the country which hasn’t changed name since 1999. They expressed concern that some politicians, who rode on PDP’s platform to become ministers, governors, commissioners and others in the past, are now determined to destroy the party and make Nigeria a one party state to satisfy their selfish interests.

READ ALSO: NIIA, Korean Embassy seek deeper economic cooperation between Nigeria, Korea

“The group said: “For democracy to thrive, there is need for strong opposition; it’s not a good thing to have a one-party system in a country as diverse as Nigeria. This is why we are drumming support for Governor Makinde and other party leaders who intend to rebuild PDP through the National Convention.

“PDP is the only opposition party that can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, hence the need to rebuild the party. We stand with Governor Makinde and others in this struggle.”

The NYN also cautioned the judiciary against giving conflicting judgements that can bring confusions and undermine the country’s democracy.

The Northern Youth Network operates under the political mentorship of Hon. Shina Abiola Peller, a member of the PDP and advocate for youth inclusion in governance.

The Network’s planned presence at the Oyo convention, Yakubu said, is both a demonstration of loyalty to Peller’s ideals and an expression of confidence in Governor Makinde’s leadership capacity at the national level.

The group further reiterated  commitment to promoting national unity, inter-regional collaboration, and issue-based politics, noting that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who understand both governance and the aspirations of its youthful population.
