He said: “We have partnered the Plumbers Association of Nigeria and carried out trade sensitisation programs across Nigeria, which have been very successful.”

  • Ruga project: Ganduje, Kano Igbo leaders reject call for Fulani’s relocation

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Igbo leaders have rejected calls from some notable Northern political leaders that Fulani herdsmen living in the Southern parts should relocate to the North.

They described the calls as divisive and retrogressive.

The governor and the Igbo leaders spoke during a special dinner organised by Ganduje in honour of the Eze Ndigbo Kano and President General, Igbo Traditional Leaders in Diaspora, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe, on his 10th Offalla anniversary.

The event took place Saturday night at Africa House, Government House, Kano.

At the dinner were Kene Nzekwe, the representative of the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, Eze P.N. Wahiwe from Niger State, President-General of Igbo in Diaspora Assembly Chief Chi Nwogu, Chief Ebenezer Chima and many other Ezes and chiefs from the 19 northern states.

Ganduje said: “Those who are calling on the Fulani to leave South, we don’t share the same feeling with them. People have a choice, as far as Nigerian constitution is concerned, to live wherever they chose to. But they must respect laws and cultures of those they are living with.”

Ganduje maintained that Nigeria is a heterogeneous society with different religions and nationalities, which calls for mutual respect among different people.

He insisted: “As we are all creatures of Allah, it is duty bound on all of us to always respect Allah’s creatures. No two way about it.”

He added that the issue of Fulani roaming about from one place to another should be stopped.

“We must find a way of turning the table from being social and cultural engagement to become social and economic. Herders should drop the cultural attachment to their rearing activities and make their rearing become economically beneficial,” the governor said.

He called on the Federal Government to put a halt to the ever-increasing movement of herders from one state to another.

Igwe Ibekwe said: “Just look at what is happening now, some people are calling on Fulani to come back to the North. So, if they come back, what will happen to us here in the North? Our people will tell us to go back to South. Is that what our forefathers wished to see us doing? We are, therefore, rejecting such call coming from some quarters. It does not mean well for the corporate existence of our dear country.”

He called on his people to always be law-abiding citizens, assuring them that the Igbo in Kano are safe in the hands of Ganduje.

“Kano is the safest place in Nigeria,” he noted.

  • Three die in Ebonyi accident

Three persons died in Saturday’s accident on the Enugu/Abakaliki Expressway, Abakaliki.

The accident involved two trucks (KL 319 YY and UGB 743 XA).

The first truck, according to eyewitnesses, hit five persons. Three of them were suspected to have died immediately. According to the source, one of the trucks carelessly changed lane and the second truck ran into some bike men on the pavement.

“Truck KL 319YY was coming from the lane of those coming into Abakaliki, on top speed, while the other truck came through G-Hostel side, and was overtaking without looking well. The first truck tried to dodge the second one but hit the bike men on the pavement and jumped into the other lane.

“He almost killed another bike man but he jumped off his bike early enough so the truck crushed the bike and the bag of melon on it.

“One of the bike men’s legs were cut off and a child of about 4 to 6 years was unconscious while his father was suspected to have died.

“Thank God for the prompt response by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who took the victims to the hospital.”

Meanwhile both truck drivers survived without injuries.

An official of the FRSC, who was at the scene refused to comment.

Governor David Umahi has condoled with families of the deceased. A statement by his media aide, Emmanuel Igwe, was dismayed at the incident and directed that speed breakers be built on the road from Onuebonyi junction to the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) permanent site axis of the expressway.

The governor noted that his administration had built three flyovers and a pedestrian bridge to end incessant accidents on the road, adding that the government would continue to ensure safety of lives and property.

  • 3,500 Fulani in detention, says group

There are over 3,500 Fulani in detentions across Nigeria, a Fulani ethnic organisation, Gan-Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), said on Sunday.

GAFDAN, an umbrella group for Fulani ethnic organisations in Nigeria, said Fulani people are seen as the black sheeps that commit crimes and must be punished even for offences that they never committed.

Its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Bayeri, told reporters yesterday in Kaduna that the Federal Government and security agencies must do something fast to stop the dangerous trend.

He added the Fulani people in captivity must be charged to court to enable the law prove them innocent or guilty.

Bayeri said: “There are a lot of problems, but the most important one is the issue of insecurity in the country. It did not start with Fulani ethnic group, it started with other groups that also commit crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping. The issue of armed robbery in Nigeria was entirely an issue of Southern part in Southeast or Southwest, especially in Lagos, Anambra states and other part of the Southeast.

“With the advent of time, the problem started coming to the North. So, even this issue of kidnapping is something that cropped into North from the Southern part. But unfortunately, during the commission of these crimes in the south, no ethnic group was completely stereotyped, stigmatised and blackmailed to the extent that every member of that tribe is seen as part of that criminality than Fulani herdsmen or Fulani persons.

“Criminal activities in Nigeria were never an ethnic, religious or regional issue. But with the advent of ethnic and religious hatred against us Fulani, because we belong to a large ethnic group in Nigeria, we have been painted black and made victims of the stereotype and seen by many people as criminals, until we prove ourselves otherwise.

“Under all laws, everybody has fundamental rights of being innocent until proven otherwise by the competent court of law.

“I want to call on President Muhammadu Buhari, Inspector General of Police, Director General (DG) of Directorate of State Service (DSS), DG National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Chief of Army staff and anybody in custody of Fulani persons on the allegations of any offence, whether it is proven or not, to please charge them to court and the suspects, if found guilty, should be sentenced to serve as lesson to other. If not found guilty, they should be discharged and acquitted.”

  • The Wall Street Jobber and Nigeria’s Jaded Opposition

The only redeeming aspect of a story written by Wall Street Journal about secret soldiers’ graves in Madagali, Borno state is the line that read “The Nigerian military and the presidency didn’t respond to requests for comment on the war, casualties and the secret cemeteries.”

It would have taken a nation led by a people consumed by an inferiority complex to dignify the report, “Secret Military Cemetery Conceals Toll of Islamist Insurgency in Nigeria,” with a response. Expressing any opinion or stating the government side to the story would have amounted to validating the lies that WSJ is desirous of offloading on the world. It would have also used such response to negotiate a higher payout from its client(s).

Understandably, the refusal to comment on the story did not stop its publication. It could not have anyway. But it is time that someone, who else but a bullied Nigeria, put the racist publication in its place. Perhaps it will now be clear to the world that what they regard as an intentional news title is nothing but a deep state operation, that has branched into offering mercenary consultancy to disgruntled opposition members in any country of interest. Another thing that has become clearer is the tendency for WSJ to pick up issues that are already in the public domain and cast them in a new light to satisfy the agenda it is in pursuit of, something the President of the United States, Donald Trump, will effectively declare as “fake news”.

Possibly in a bid to do maximum damage, WSJ turned the whole story upside down. It created the impression that the remains in the 1000 graves were those of soldiers that were killed yesterday or last week or last month or even last year, when in reality some of the bodies predated the Buhari administration. In reality, the cemetery holds remains dating from the Goodluck Jonathan era when Boko Haram was a big issue. The publication came off as intended to cause mischief, a counter to the Presidency’s declaration of the defeat of Boko Haram a few days prior. It is also a deliberate plan to derail democracy in Nigeria by painting the government bad to incite citizens.

It gets even worse. Not only does the newspaper act as a willing catalyst for neocon illegitimate intervention to disrupt sovereign states across the world it has now also become a paid-hire-propaganda mill, buyable by willing and corrupt despots and in the case of Nigeria – a rotten opposition. The obscene romance between WSJ and Atiku Abubakar, who was one of the opposition candidates on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is well known. This explains the barrage of negative stories that the publication ran around the Nigerian elections.

In the period leading to the election, the reputation of Atiku doling out funds to foreign hitmen is well known and availability of money was no problem for the man whose sole political credentials center around the state resources he was able to corner to himself when he held office as Nigeria’s Vice President. Curiously, not much of the malignant stories written by WSJ referenced this sleazy character who would later become its largest patron in Nigeria.

The report about the military graves was allegedly done at the instance of Atiku who, running short of things to blackmail the incumbent government with, is in desperate need of something to keep glimpses of his torpedoed ambition in public consciousness. As fictitious as this allegation is, the speed with which Atiku jumped on the report to react to the report of the graves gave the game away. What is WSJ not telling it’s readers?

WSJ painted the picture of a country losing its war against ISWAP – Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists without acknowledging its role or contributions towards the creation of the worst threat to humanity – jihadi terrorists. The rise of the Islamic State cannot be accounted for without the misguided war that destabilized Iraq. That war, based on a non-existent weapons of mass destruction, would not have happened without the input of ab evil entity like WSJ. An article in the World Socialist Web Site, “The Wall Street Journal and the occupation of Iraq,” detailed how the Journal manipulated the situation to get its war. Unfortunately, there is no record of WSJ suffering consequences for such lies, which explains why it continues to implement such destabilization agenda against other countries through its reports.

The instability occasioned by that war provided the fertile ground for the Islamic State to emerge and thrive. It played a similar role in Syria in pursuit of overthrowing Bashir al-Assad as president of Syria, which helped ISIS to spread faster than necessary. This is the terror organization that fled the Middle East, in the wake of a Russian backed onslaught, and relocated to the Lake Chad Basin to replace a Boko Haram that had succumbed to punishing operations of the Nigerian military.

It is interesting how WSJ was able to find thousands of secret graves holding the remains of Nigerian troops in a publicly known cemetery but is too limited to report the relationship between its atrocious activities in the Middle East and ISIS’ infiltration of the north east of Nigeria. It found corruption and secrecy in Nigeria but somehow remains unable to expose the financial network that had kept ISWAP well financed and equipped with modern weaponry. Somehow, the ethical responsibility to report in a way that guarantees the marshalling of resources to combat terrorism in Nigeria eluded this so called reputable organization.

It discarded all these responsibilities and instead pitched tent with the opposition in Nigeria, which may just be complicit in strengthening the terrorists to be resistant against a sovereign state. It engaged in acts that are inconceivable in its own country of origin, for no news organization in the United States will dare report terrorism in a manner that gives advantage to the terrorist. Such media outfit will automatically consign itself to the status of a pariah. But that is exactly what WSJ has done in Nigeria, ostensibly because it considers itself beyond the reach of the country in terms of repercussions.

Thankfully for Nigeria and the present administration, consequences for WSJ’s irresponsible acts do not have to come from them. The loss of credibility that will naturally follow its romance with the opposition in Nigeria will cause it more damage than the hoax about Saddam Hussein’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction did. When the true extent of collusion between WSJ and the PDP/Atiku become known to its readers they will realize that they have been conned out of the money they pay to subscribe for WSJ’s jaundiced articles. Its articles and news stories about Nigeria in the past two years re being paid for by the opposition, which sadly is also being jobbed by a WSJ that has not been able to deliver on unsettling the Buhari administration.

What the WSJ can do under the circumstances is to make fair disclosure to Atiku Abubakar and the PDP that it is not in a position to reverse their jaded fortune; each lie it has published to create talking points for the opposition come with shelf life that lasted less than three days because they are short on facts. Such truthfulness will help Atiku realize the futility of throwing more money after bad money in the hope of overthrowing the government like he has been trying to. But a publication that is dubious to the point of misleading its readers and misleading even nations will never summon the decency to stop scamming its client, which is why the Nigerian opposition will remain jaded for as long as it relies on fraudulent enterprise like WSJ to unseat the government for it instead of eschewing corruption and seeking the forgiveness of the Nigerian masses.

  • Aspirants warned against defacing city with posters

The Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board has warned governorship aspirants and their supporters against indiscriminate pasting and erection of campaign materials.

In a statement by the Executive Chairman, Ebi Waribigha, told aspirants to desist from such practice.

It was gathered that the board has inaugurated a task force to enforce the law in Yenagoa and clear some of the campaign materials.

The statement reads: “The public should be informed that these advertorials fall short of prescribed standards and best practices, as they distort the aesthetic condition of the city, cause impediment to free flow of traffic, pose danger to pedestrians/motorists and transmit offensive and unethical messages to the public.

  • APC chairmen back Bulama for National Secretary

State chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of Forum of State Chairmen of the APC have resolved to back the candidacy of Waziri Bulama for the position of the party’s National Secretary.

Rising from a three-day meeting in Abuja, the nation’s capital, the state chairmen said they were convinced about Bulama’s commitment to the growth of the party, hence their decision to support him to occupy the position.

Other groups have endorsed Bulama, who was the Deputy Director General (Coordination) of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to replace the former National Secretary and current governor of Yobe State, Mallam Mai Mala Buni.

They include Buhari Support Organization (BSO), which is the umbrella body of the President’s support groups across the country.

Sources close to the forum said the state chairmen were not happy with the seeming lack of activities at the party’s secretariat.

They believe that having a substantive national secretary would improve activities at the secretariat.

In a chat with our reporter, a source, who spoke in confidence, said: “As you can see, APC does not seem to be in government. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still occupying spaces everywhere. We feel that a substantive National Secretary of the party would make the party busy and bring more positive attention to the party.

“In this light, the state party chairmen have given their nod to Bulama to occupy the position after interacting with him.”

A Deputy Chairman of the forum and APC Chairman in Delta State, Prophet Jones Erue Ode, affirmed that Bulama came to address them during their meeting and they resolved to work with him.

He said: “We have agreed to work with him. We agreed to stand with him, having listened to him and watched his tall credentials.

“We need someone who can stand for our party, who is intelligent and has a lot of things working in his favour. We hail his credentials. We hail his integrity and sacrifice for our party as well as his commitment to our party. We said we will stand with him.”

The quest to replace Buni has been on the front burner of the party, as the National Working Committee (NWC) recently appointed the Deputy National Secretary, Victor Gaidom, as the Acting National Secretary.
