    Why I don’t go to church – Rapper T.I

American rapper Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr., popularly known as T.I., has opened up about why he doesn’t attend church despite being a Christian.

In a recent interview with Gospel musician Kirk Franklin, T.I stated that he believes in God but views the church as a business, accusing clergy of twisting the Bible for personal gain.

Raised in a Christian household, T.I said he knows how to pray and has seen God’s presence in his life, but doesn’t feel a connection with the church.

He said, “I have never been a church person. I grew up in a strong Christian household. My grandma and auntie were very strong in prayer. So, I know how to pray, and I know the word. And I know God is real, I’ve seen his presence and his hands in my life. But I have never felt the connection with the church,” he said.

“To be honest, I don’t think the church is real. I think it’s a business. It’s like a show. It’s like public speaking, like a TED talk. And sometimes, clergies try to twist the word of God to benefit themselves.”

He questioned the need for financial commitments and a middleman in his relationship with God.

“Y’all telling me. I gotta pay this joker. For my God to hear my prayer? Mehn I’m outta here,” the rapper said.

Flood-prone LGs urged to take ownership of flood prevention

Flood-prone local government areas have been urged to take a more proactive role in preventing floods and mitigating their impact on communities.

The Vice Chairman of Girei Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Chief Luri Zephsnia, gave the charge, stressing that local authorities can make a significant difference by taking responsibility for their immediate environment rather than leaving flood management solely to state or federal governments.

Zephsnia spoke in Yola, the state capital, during a review meeting of a flood anticipatory project organised by the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

The project, implemented with the support of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), targeted Girei and six other flood-prone local government areas in Adamawa State—Yola North, Yola South, Fufore, Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde.

As part of the intervention, Red Cross officials and volunteers were deployed to communities across the targeted LGAs to sensitise households on measures to prevent flooding or reduce its effects.

The Disaster Management Coordinator of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, Mr Timothy Yohanna, told journalists that the organisation recruited 210 sensitisation volunteers who carried out house-to-house visits in the seven local government areas identified as flood-prone.

Yohanna explained that the review meeting in Yola was aimed at validating lessons learnt and feedback gathered during the implementation of flood management activities in the state.

“We are looking at the achievements of the anticipatory action as well as the challenges encountered during the implementation of the project in Adamawa State,” he said.

He expressed optimism that communities covered by the project are now better prepared to handle flooding as the country approaches another rainy season.

A two-month-old baby, identified as Riches, has been abducted by suspected gunmen operating in a commercial tricycle along the NNPC Link Road, Ekpan, in Delta State.

The incident occurred at about 4 pm on Monday when the baby’s mother, Mrs Rita Oghale, boarded a tricycle, popularly known as a keke, from Shaguolor Junction to Airport Road with her two children.

Mrs Oghale said two other passengers—a man and a woman—were seated at the back of the tricycle.

She explained that upon reaching the NNPC Link Road, close to the Delta Careers College fence and shortly before the traffic light, the male passenger suddenly pulled out a gun and demanded her two-month-old baby.

According to her, the suspect forcefully snatched the baby, collected her phone number, and pushed her and her other child out of the tricycle before speeding off.

The distraught mother said the incident had been reported to the police and appealed to members of the public with any useful information that could lead to the recovery of her child to contact the nearest police station.

Suspected cultists kill Owo Poly HND student in Ondo

An HND student of the Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), identified simply as Ayodele Peter, has been murdered by suspected cultists in Owo, Ondo State.

Peter, aged 25, was reportedly killed on Sunday evening at the Opomulero area of the polytechnic community in Owo Local Government Area.

The attack followed the invasion of the area by suspected cult members said to be searching for rival gang members.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the assailants traced the victim to his residence, pretended to be visitors, and called him out before shooting him at close range.

“We received a call yesterday evening that Peter was shot by some guys believed to be cultists. They called him out of his apartment and shot him at point-blank range. He struggled to stay alive before he was rushed to the hospital,” the source said.

Another source disclosed that the deceased, popularly known as Don P, had lost his mother about three weeks before the incident.

“Peter was still mourning the death of his mother, who passed away three weeks ago,” the source added.

Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, alleged that the violence was linked to an incident that occurred last Thursday during a birthday celebration organised by members of the Eiye cult group within the institution.

According to the platform, trouble started after an Eiye leader allegedly ordered the assault of a female student, which led to a confrontation with members of the Buccaneers cult group at the venue.

The confrontation reportedly degenerated into a series of reprisal attacks between the two groups, eventually resulting in the killing of Peter.

“The crisis started when Eiye cultists were celebrating a birthday and playing cult songs loudly. During the event, an Eiye leader ordered the assault of a female student. This later resulted in a confrontation with Buccaneers members and subsequent reprisal attacks,” the platform stated.

Efforts to reach the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and the Ondo State Police Command were initially unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

However, the Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Kazeem, the police stated that the arrest of the suspect, whose name is still being withheld, followed a coordinated manhunt launched after the incident.

“The suspect has made useful statements and is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects at large,” the statement said.

Additionally, the police disclosed that operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene after receiving reports that suspected cult members had forcefully gained entry into a residence and attacked Peter.

It added that Peter was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where he was later confirmed dead.

Commending the operatives for their prompt response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described their actions as professional and reassuring, adding that security measures have been strengthened across the state.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities to ensure public safety.

  • Tinubu’s digital drive boosts mining cadastre revenue to over N30bn — Nkom

Tinubu’s digital drive boosts mining cadastre revenue to over N30bn — Nkom

The Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Obadiah Simon Nkom, has commended the digital governance drive of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, saying it has repositioned Nigeria’s mining sector.

Nkom said the policy thrust and other reforms introduced by the federal government have led to a dramatic increase in the agency’s revenue, from N12 billion to over N30 billion within the last year.

He made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday to announce the launch of the MCO OneGov Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS).

According to him, the OneGov ECMS is an intelligent, sovereign digital platform designed to eliminate paperwork, enhance document security, streamline workflows, and improve service delivery across the country.

The MCO boss noted that the cadastre office is the first agency to fully deploy the system, describing the development as a major milestone for the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the Mining Cadastre Office, and Nigeria as a whole.

“We are here today to acknowledge the government’s commitment and to advance policies that move our nation forward. This event represents a bold leap in Nigeria’s digital transformation,” he said.

Tracing the evolution of the Mining Cadastre Office, Nkom explained that the agency began its digital transition over three years ago, culminating in its full migration to an online system on November 1, 2025.

“When we talk about digital transformation, we must remember that the Mining Cadastre Office began its journey over three years ago. It was on November 1, 2025, that we migrated to an online system. But migrating online is not enough; we must now ensure full alignment with government policies, especially the transition to a paperless system. The real task is ensuring full alignment with government policy, particularly the transition to a paperless system across the public service,” he said.

Nkom also commended the minister’s seven-point agenda, saying it had accelerated reforms in the sector and delivered measurable outcomes.

“These are not mere statements. The indicators are clear. The pace of progress since the Honourable Minister assumed office has been astronomical,” Nkom said.

He also praised the leadership at the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, who was recently appointed Chairman of Permanent Secretaries for the OneGov Cloud Programme and the Electronic Content Management System.

According to him, the ministry’s performance was further recognised when it emerged with a gold medal at the recent Head of Service exhibition for best-performing agency.

Nkom explained that the government’s paperless drive was anchored on the .ng domain, which he described as one of the most secure in the world and the backbone of the .gov cloud infrastructure.

Highlighting the MCO’s role in Nigeria’s digital governance push, he recalled that in 2022, the agency beat heavyweight institutions such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigerian Communications Commission, and the National Pension Commission to win the Nigerian Internet Registration Association award for Best Innovation and Digitalisation Agency.

“Many people had never heard of the Mining Cadastre Office until then. Even at the finals, there was shock when MCO was announced the winner. That recognition aligned strongly with the .ng initiative,” he said.

On revenue performance, the MCO DG said the sector had recorded unprecedented growth in recent years.

“In 2023, we celebrated N6.7bn in revenue, up from about ₦4bn the previous year. When the Honourable Minister came on board, the figure rose to ₦12bn. Today, we have generated over N30bn,” Nkom stated.

He attributed the surge to stricter enforcement, operational efficiency, and the minister’s no-nonsense approach to compliance.

“I remember when the minister said, ‘Either you ship in, or you ship out.’ That sent a clear signal. If you do your work, you get full support. That is why we have seen firm actions, including revocations where necessary,” he added.

Nkom said that, beyond revenue, the MCO had earned multiple recognitions, including the Bureau of Public Service Reforms’ award for digitalization in 2023 and commendations from the Code of Conduct Bureau.

He assured that the agency would continue to build on the reforms, saying the achievements so far were a motivation to do more.

“We profoundly appreciate the Honourable Minister’s leadership. It inspires us to work harder, knowing there is still room for improvement,” he said.

The mining sector has been identified by the federal government as a key pillar for economic diversification, with reforms aimed at improving transparency, boosting investor confidence, and increasing non-oil revenue.

  • Winners emerge from maiden edition of ‘Dare2Debate’ 2025 competition

Winners emerge from maiden edition of ‘Dare2Debate’ 2025 competition

CMS Grammar School, Bariga, over the weekend, emerged victorious at the maiden edition of ‘Dare2Debate’ 2025 inter-school competition organised by HACmedia.

The school defeated two others — Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School, Bariga and Aresther Divine School, Ajao Estate — to emerge as the winner with 77 points and a cash prize of N300,000.

Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School came second with 75 points and got a N200,000 cash prize, while Aresther Divine School, with 70 points, got N100,000.

In the first round, Sanusi Emmanuel of CMS Grammar debated Ibehkwe Precious of Bishop Howells on “Homework has never been so relevant as it is.”

Sanusi argued that homework is no longer relevant in today’s context, while Ibehkwe Precious countered that homework is still essential for students’ understanding, discipline, and long-term learning.

The second round featured Adebayo Adejumoke of Bishop Howells debating Aresther School on “Is poverty a big crime in Nigeria?” Adebayo argued that poverty drives crime, citing lack of social amenities, peer pressure, and emotional hardship as factors.

In the final round, Chukwudalu Okafor of CMS Grammar faced Kelvin Chukwuma of Bishop Howells on “What has Artificial Intelligence done to human creativity?” Chukwudalu argued that AI enhances creativity, while Kelvin warned that over-reliance on AI can reduce critical thinking.

The Dare2Debate initiative is actively building the next generation of leaders and critical thinkers.

Its core program, “Think, Speak, and Lead,” leverages debate among secondary school students to cultivate essential public speaking and intellectual skills.

The lead organiser of Dare2Debate, Davies Ikpoyi, in his remarks, explained that the debate programme was aimed at sharpening critical thinking among secondary school students.

He said, “We want to let Nigerians know that students can actually get better with conversations, with thinking, with public speaking, and with the way they address conversations and situations.

“That’s why we’re here, because the essence of the debate is to train senior secondary school students — youth, majorly— on public speaking, critical thinking, and mind management. And all of these usually culminates to something bigger, which happens to be the debate event, where everybody comes together to debate for a just cause. And I mean a just cause; it is not a show of force.

“Debates usually are battles with words, knowledge, and wit. So the essence of all of those training was because we wanted to do this, and that’s why we’re here.

“The need for young people to have better communications without having the need to feel haunted, intimidated, or feeling that somebody is after their life.”

Also, Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana in his special address, urged students to reflect on Nigeria’s economic decline and social issues.

Falana argued that poverty results from failed leadership, not destiny, and encouraged youth to study, think critically, and question societal challenges.

He further called for restrictions on social media access for individuals under the age of 16 in Nigeria, echoing growing global concerns over the impact of online platforms on young people.

Falana said, “There is an ongoing debate around the world with respect to the use of telephones or access to social media by young people. Some countries are restricting it. Australia has just insisted that you cannot access social media if you are under 16.

“And, once it is adopted by the United States or the UK, in particular, Nigeria, being a neo-colony, will also be bound to follow suit. But one way or the other, it certainly has to be regulated in the interest of our children.

“Do you know what I mean by a neo-colonial country? A country that claims to be independent but is still very much coloured in all circumstances. Nigeria is the colour of the United Kingdom.”

Speaking on the argument that poverty is fuelling criminal activities in Nigeria, Falana opposed it, saying many people were pushed into the act because of poverty and unemployment.

He said, “First of all, Nigerians are not criminals. If you compare the crime rate here with the United States of America, or some other countries, or South Africa, you will know that Nigerians are not into serious crimes, but because poverty and unemployment have been allowed by the government to be the lot of our people, many people are pushed into criminality.

“However, we have cases of underemployment in Nigeria. So it is not totally true, right, that there are no job opportunities, but we choose, for instance, many of our people who go abroad. Jobs they consider ‘infra dignitatem’ here, that is, below their standard, is what those are the jobs they jump at abroad.

“For instance, graduates who are gainfully employed there are made to believe that once they travel abroad, the sky is the limit of opportunities for them. So they get there, and they are forced to embark on dirty jobs.”

Sanusi Emmanuel, an SS3 student of CMS Grammar, commended the organisers and the event, saying, “I learned valuable lessons from the debates and from other participants.

“It was an eye-opening experience, and I appreciate the organisers for creating this platform. Everything I gained here will stay with me,” he said.

This year’s theme, “Africa Reimagined: Innovation, Inclusion & Sustainable Growth,” set the tone for an event attended by political leaders, business executives, investors, and creatives. The summit has evolved from an awards ceremony into a vital platform for recognition and networking.

Key dignitaries included Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (represented), Minister Festus Keyamo, and Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema, all underscoring the summit’s significance.

Founder of GMYT Group Limited and the event’s convener, Dr Princess O. Oghene, emphasised that the summit represents more than just an awards ceremony, but a platform for influence and leadership development.

She showered encomium on Governors, ministers, partners, sponsors and her team for their role in making the 13th edition a huge success, describing it as a sign of greater things to come

I am excited because I can welcome my guest simply because my team is working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the big vision turns out successful

Asked about the difficulties of staging an event of such magnitude in Nigeria at a time the country is battling insecurity and economic challenges, Princess Oghene maintained that Nigeria provides the right and enabling environment to excel compared to other places in the world.

” Nigeria is home for me. In my 22 years of being in this business, I have ventured into many businesses, but not all of them have survived. I can confidently say that no country is better than Nigeria. This is the country where you feel at home, and this is my fatherland. We are born to hustle, and at the end of the day, we survive.

The GAH ecosystem was showcased through GAH Media, GAH Elite Magazine, GAH Sports, and the new GAH Experience Zone, which highlighted innovations in various fields.

The evening celebrated African fashion, with designers and creatives showcasing their work, adding vibrancy to the event. Emotional moments arose during the awards segment as honorees received recognition.

As the night wrapped up, conversations continued, fostering connections and collaborations.

For Dr. Oghene, this event marked a significant milestone in a 13-year journey. “We are creating a future defined by innovation, inclusion, and African excellence,” she stated.
