David Mark warns against corruption, manipulation of primaries

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned chieftains and members of the party against corruption, ticket trading, manipulation of primaries, among others, saying the leadership will not accept such vices.

He gave the warning yesterday in Asaba during the inauguration of Delta State Transition Management Committee, emphasising adherence to the ADC Constitution and operational guidelines.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the 2023 general elections, Olorogun Great Ogboru, is one of the members of the leadership team in the state.

Other members of the team are Deacon Kennedy Pela, Hon. Uloho Obaro, Engr. Austin Okolie, Hon. George Timinimi, and Hon. Emeka Ozegbe.

Senator Mark, who was represented by former Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr. Babachir Lawal, outlined the party’s expectations for the newly inaugurated leaders.

“Corruption, ticket-trading, manipulation of primaries, and other shady practices which are common in other parties will not be tolerated in the ADC,” the former Senate President warned.

Mark also commended Delta leaders for their commitment to the ADC and urged members to support the national leadership in strengthening party structures across the state.

The ADC national chair stated, “Part of the terms of reference of the leadership team is to diligently superintend membership registration, mobilisation, registration and validation.

“The leadership team will also acquire and set up offices for the party at the state, local government, ward and unit levels and undertake sensitisation and awareness advocacy at all levels in order to promote and familiarise the public with the party.”

Also speaking, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC is committed to change the political narrative in the country, emphasising that the party is driven by a mission focused on justice, equity, and transparency in governance.

Abdullahi asserted that the pervasive issues in Nigerian politics stem from historical practices, and the ADC aims to adopt a different, more effective political approach.

He challenged the effectiveness of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the public to assess whether their lives have improved under their governance and if not, he suggested they consider the ADC as an alternative.

Abdullahi portrayed the ADC as the last standing credible opposition party in Nigeria, noting the party’s commitment to representing the voice of ordinary Nigerians and fostering inclusive governance.

He expressed concerns about the political landscape, claiming that by 2027, there is a risk of the APC being the only major party left, while the ADC aims to remain a significant contender.

The ADC’s mission, according to Abdullahi, is not only political but also a national rescue effort, aiming to empower ordinary Nigerians to participate meaningfully in governance.

In his remarks, National Vice Chairman (South-South), Usani Uguru Usani, urged ADC members in the Niger Delta to stand firm and not allow past political experiences to instill fear in them.

He said, “Any man who carries fear does not belong to the ADC”, emphasising that the party’s internal processes are transparent and accountable.

He dismissed speculation about divisions within the ADC as “a storm in a tea cup.”

Giving the vote of thanks, Olorogun Great Ogboru described the inauguration as a historic milestone for Delta State politics, saying the state had lacked effective opposition for decades.

He praised the coalition members for the ADC as a strategic move to strengthen democracy in the state and the country.

Ogboru said, “The ruling APC does not know that an obscure party like the ADC will come up to say ‘No’.

“They did not know that Nigerians will join ADC to say ‘no’. Nigerians and ADC believe that we must have a democracy. Nigerians and ADC believe that to have a democracy, there must be an alternative.

“Nigerians and ADC believe that for that alternative to be effective, the people must decide.”

  • AU anti-graft body pledges to partner youth to tackle corruption

AU anti-graft body pledges to partner youth to tackle corruption

The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) has indicated the collective intention of its members to work with the youth to tackle corruption and carve a future characterised by integrity and justice.

AUABC Chairperson Kwami Edem Senanu, in a statement issued in Arusha, Tanzania, on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day 2025, said the youth as future custodians of this continent are not just victims of corruption and illicit financial flows, but they are also potentially formidable agents of change.

Senanu said on the anti-corruption day, the AUABC is reminded that across the African continent and across the world, corruption severely undermines development, erodes public trust, and critically impedes humanity’s progress, by stealing resources and opportunities.

“Mo Ibrahim estimates that our continent loses a staggering $125  billion annually. Yet today is also a day of hope. It is another opportunity to reflect on not just our losses, but in addition our shared commitment to combat corruption in all its forms and to strengthen our resolve, to be more militant about addressing the canker of corruption!

“The theme for this year, ‘Uniting with the Youth: Shaping tomorrow’s Integrity’, underscores the potential transformative power of youth in general and in our context, Africa’s burgeoning youth demographic and the need to strategically harness this. Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are critical change-makers for today! Their energy, innovation, and unwavering desire for justice are absolutely essential in building societies where integrity flourishes and where corruption is eschewed.

“They are key partners in eradicating corruption and securing the continent’s future. Therefore, our fight against corruption will benefit from a critical generational shift in mindset, technology and leadership, and across Africa, millions of young people are speaking out, demanding ethical leadership, and driving grassroots movements for social justice and transparency.

“They are the heartbeat of our continent’s progress, a rising movement for constructive change and ultimately the real vehicle for the Africa we want! By investing in them and embracing their voices, their ideas, their digital and other talents, we can bypass old, corrupt systems and build transparent institutions, creating a dynamic force for Africa’s growth and development. “

Senanu  hailed the youth of Africa and encourage them to stand up, speak out and take their place in history, by catalysing the change this continent sorely needs.

“The AUABC remains committed to empowering you and investing in the next generation of ethical leaders. In sync with this imperative, we will strengthen our ongoing and future initiatives to equip more young Africans with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to champion integrity and to promote accountability across the continent.

“Furthermore, we urgently call upon all stakeholders, including governments, institutions, and citizens at large, to unite with our youth. Let us create permanent and regular spaces for youth empowerment, dialogue, initiative support and nurture a culture where integrity is celebrated.

“Together, hand in hand with our youth, we can transform Africa’s future, ensuring that honesty, fairness, and accountability  guide our actions and that integrity becomes our hallmark and our enduring legacy!” Senanu said.

The Catalyst symposium series empowers emerging leaders, promotes inter-ethnic harmony

The Catalyst Symposium Series, a platform that brings together innovative thinkers, industry leaders and aspiring change-makers in communities, have continued to empower emerging leaders across Nigeria and promote inter-ethnic harmony.

The series, launched in February 2025 under the theme: “The future conversations,” showcased an ambitious goal to bridge leadership talent and ignite innovation across various fields.

The inaugural gathering in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)  became the beginning of   a movement that would  spread to cities, becoming  a trailblazing platform for dynamic leaders, innovators, and change-makers across Nigeria.

Over the year, the series held four impactful editions—in Abuja, Lagos, Akure, and Benin—drawing hundreds of attendees and sparking conversations on empathy-driven leadership, innovation, and sustainable growth.

From tackling Africa’s leadership challenges to promoting inter-ethnic harmony, the symposiums featured an impressive lineup of speakers.

In Abuja, visionaries explored cutting-edge trends; in Lagos, leaders dissected emotional intelligence and strategic thinking; in Akure, discussions pivoted to entrepreneurship and social change; and in Benin, the focus was on identity, liver health, and policy innovation.

Speakers drawn from different  background, including like Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, Toyin Alasi, MC Casino, and Dr. Ikponmwosa Aikpitanyi brought diverse expertise, inspiring attendees to drive tangible impact.

The Benin edition, held on December 1 at the University of Benin, stood out with talks on “Guarding the Gateway: Unmasking Liver Toxicity’s Grip on a Generation” and “Navigating Identity: Overcoming Crisis and Rediscovering Self-Worth.” Speakers at the event, including Hon. Dr. Olufemi Adekanmbi, Prof. Odigwe Nwaokocha, and Dr. Efosa Emmanuel Iyamu emphasized creativity, empathy, and science-backed solutions for community challenges.

Highpoints across the events, included  hands-on workshops, keynote speeches, and panels fostered networking frenzies, equipping participants with practical tools for progress.

The symposiums underscored Benin’s and Nigeria’s potential as leadership beacons, aligning with UN SDGs and countering divisive narratives with empathy-driven action.

Arogundade Dolapo, the convener, said : “The Catalyst Symposium has ignited a movement. Small sparks lead to big change—one conversation, one idea, one step forward.”

According to him, there are plans to expand the series to more cities; urging  partners  and leaders to join this journey of cultivating innovation and impact.

As the year closes, the ripple effects of these gatherings promise sustained collaborations, proving that collective vision fuels transformative growth.

  • Christmas: Makinde’s wife urges Oyo women to embrace giving, strengthen families

Christmas: Makinde’s wife urges Oyo women to embrace giving, strengthen families

Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, has urged women across the state to uphold the spirit of giving, strengthen family bonds, and continue championing peaceful communities as 2025 draws to a close.

She commended Oyo women for their resilience throughout the year, noting that their strength and contributions have continued to sustain communities across the state.

Speaking in Ibadan at the 2025 End-of-the-Year and Christmas Women’s Party, Mrs. Makinde—represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ajibola Lawal—said the annual celebration was more than a social gathering, describing it as a moment to reflect on women’s roles in families and in the state.

According to her, Oyo women have shown remarkable resilience in business, public service, agriculture, community building, and in their homes.

She described them as “the heartbeat of Oyo State,” adding that their sacrifices keep the wheels of progress turning.

She reiterated that her vision for women in the state is for them to continue shining as beacons of hope, empowerment, and unity, noting that her office remains committed to creating platforms where women can bond, share experiences, and feel valued.

Mrs. Makinde added that Christmas offers a unique opportunity for women to reflect on the year’s blessings while embracing the hope and opportunities the new year will bring.

“Women have the power to nurture, uplift, and shape future generations. The values we instill in our homes, patience, humility, compassion, discipline, are the same values that shape our communities and our state.

“Nation-building begins within households. When a family is peaceful, a community becomes peaceful. And when communities are peaceful, the entire state enjoys stability and progress.”

She urged women to rekindle the true essence of Christmas through generosity and compassion, saying Christmas is not just a celebration, but a call to love.

“Let us share what we have, no matter how little with those around us. A simple act of kindness can transform someone’s entire year.”

She however extended warm wishes to all families, praying that Christmas brings peace, prosperity, and lasting joy to every home in Oyo State.

Earlier in her remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun applauded Mrs Makinde for consistently championing the cause of women and creating platforms that promote unity, gratitude, and sisterhood.

She noted that women coming together to share experiences reinforces collective strength.

The Commissioner commended Oyo women for their remarkable contributions across multiple sectors during the year.

She however reaffirmed that the Ministry, with continued support from the Governor and the First Lady, would remain dedicated to advancing policies and programmes that ensure safety, dignity, and economic independence for all women.

Highlight of the event include distribution of food items and cash to women from all 33 local government areas, a gesture aimed at supporting families during the festive season and easing the economic strain experienced by many households.

ECOWAS: APC praises Nigeria’s leadership, growing  influence in  W/Africa

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says Nigeria is providing strong regional leadership under  President Bola Tinubu.

Its spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Thursday, said the country is playing a stabilising role as  West Africa faces political instability, security threats and economic uncertainty.

Oladejo said President Tinubu’s role in ECOWAS had strengthened diplomatic engagement and promoted stability in the sub-region.

Oladejo said Nigeria remained firm in supporting democracy and opposing unconstitutional takeovers  of governments in the sub-region.

He added that the President’s interventions had helped reopen dialogue channels in troubled West African states.

According to him,  Nigeria continues to lead security cooperation through counterterrorism efforts and intelligence sharing.

He said joint operations with regional partners are improving responses to terrorism, piracy and cross-border crime.

Oladejo commended the strengthening of the ECOWAS Standby Force under Tinubu’s leadership.

He said Nigeria was also rallying international support to confront emerging security threats in the Sahel.

According to him, Nigeria’s diplomacy is now anchored on strategy, responsibility and regional development.

He said the President is advancing economic integration, energy diplomacy and new trade partnerships within West Africa.

Tiktok honours GWR holder Brian Nwana as ‘Storyteller of the Year’

Guinness World Record holder and content creator, Brian Nwana, has been named TikTok Africa’s Storyteller of the Year.

Known for his energetic reviews and deep passion for Nigeria’s food culture, Brian has built his brand around the idea of telling stories of everyday food spots, especially the hidden culinary gems across Abuja.

Brian, who expressed delight receiving the award said: “Every single creator is a storyteller. We all tell stories that help drive our local communities, our cities, and our countries. When we do that, we change how the world sees us.”

While reflecting on the modest beginnings of his journey, he explained that his content was never driven by awards or global recognition.

“When I started creating content, I just wanted to show people what Abuja had to offer, the amazing food, the creativity, and the places people often overlook,” he said. “Breaking the Guinness World Record by visiting 150 restaurants in one day helped shine a big light on that. Now this TikTok award is doing the same. I’m honestly just grateful.”

Brian first gained national and international attention after setting the Guinness World Record for the Most Fast-Food Restaurant Visits in 24 Hours, a physically demanding but spirited challenge that underscored his commitment to promoting local businesses and celebrating Nigerian cuisine.

He noted that sharing the nomination news with a close circle of friends and family made the moment even more meaningful, appreciating the consistent support he has received since the early days of his career. He also acknowledged the role of his manager, Rhoda Kusimo Iloba, in helping shape his journey.

With the latest recognition, Brian continues to establish himself as one of Abuja’s most influential creative voices praised for his humour, authenticity, and deep love for the city.

From filming casual food reviews with a camera to earning global recognition on one of the world’s biggest social media platforms, his story is a testament to how passion, consistency, and community-focused storytelling can open unexpected doors.

  • Ex-Senate president Lawan rallies north, predicts 75% votes for Tinubu in 2027

Ex-Senate president Lawan rallies north, predicts 75% votes for Tinubu in 2027

…named Patron of Tinubu House-to-House network

Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday declared that the North would deliver over 75 percent of its votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, insisting that continuity remains critical to Nigeria’s stability and development.

Lawan made the remarks after he was formally appointed National Patron of the Tinubu House-to-House Network, a volunteer-based grassroots mobilisation group.

The group’s leadership, led by its national chairman, Comrade Yahaya Muhammad, visited him at the National Assembly to notify him of the appointment.

Visibly delighted, the Yobe North lawmaker hailed the group’s strategy and charged its members to expand their footprint nationwide.

“I feel very delighted that you have found me worthy of this appointment,” he said. “My prayer and hope is that you continue to deepen your activities across the country, particularly in the northern part of Nigeria.”

Lawan delivered a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s leadership, declaring that the administration has stabilised the economy and strengthened national security architecture.

“I believe President Bola Tinubu is doing his best and the APC administration is achieving a lot. The economy of Nigeria today is stable and facing the right direction,” he said.

On security, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence acknowledged the country’s challenges but expressed confidence in the armed forces, saying the administration had invested heavily in security assets and operations.

Looking ahead to 2027, Lawan urged northern voters to surpass their 2023 support for Tinubu.

“In the 2023 general elections, the North gave about 63% of the votes that saw President Tinubu to office. In 2027, we should vote for our President with more than 75% of the votes that will bring him back to office,” he declared.

He argued that Nigeria stands to gain more from stability and continuity than experimenting with new leadership.

“The President is trying to ensure that we get a fair share. So, we are better sticking with this President than trying somebody new who may not do even half of what we have seen here,” Lawan added.

The former Senate President also attributed the influx of defectors into the APC to what he described as visible progress under the current administration.

“Nobody is bribed or coerced into becoming a member of the party. They believe in APC just like we do,” he said.

Lawan encouraged the Tinubu House-to-House Network to evolve into a truly national structure capable of driving an effective 2027 campaign.

“Let it be a national network, covering not only major states but all states of the federation. We want to take the success story from house to house. This is supposed to be the basis of any serious campaign,” he stated.

The Tinubu House-to-House Network is a volunteer platform focused on grassroots mobilisation and dissemination of the administration’s programmes across all wards in the country.
