Mining sector digitization triggers revenue increase, efficiency, global recognition – Alake

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake has attributed the giant strides recorded to digital reforms introduced to the sector by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in the last two and a half years..

He made this declaration in Abuja while inaugurating the OneGov Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) at the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) – a critical agency under his Ministry.

Alake, who was elated by the major breakthrough recorded by MCO, said that digital reforms are now powering “unprecedented revenue, transparency, operational efficiency” of the sector and global recognition.

Describing the launch as “a monumental step that reflects the new colors of success, progress, and efficiency in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.”

The Minister explained that the achievement underscores the decisive shift his administration has driven since the assuming office.

“What the MCO has achieved today is symptomatic of the entire sector. We have made strident strides across every part of the solid minerals ecosystem,” he stated.

Disclosing that government revenue from the sector had risen sharply due to digitisation, strict policy enforcement, and improved licensing processes.

“When we came in, revenue was about ₦6 billion. We doubled that within a year. And this year, we are almost tripling it,” he said.

He further said that the revenue of the sector jumped from ₦28 billion in 2024 to over ₦50 billion in 2025, a growth he attributed to the digitisation, transparency-driven reforms and stronger oversight.

He then commended the MCO for eliminating bottlenecks and accelerating service delivery, adding that the transformation had restored investor confidence in the sector.

He commended the MCO leadership for combining innovation with discipline, courage, and strong administrative structure.

Commending Galaxy Backbone for powering the OneGov system, Alake also counseled the agency to ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity to prevent workflow disruptions.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, hailed the MCO for demonstrating “exemplary leadership and commitment to modernization in this age of AI and digital systems.”

“As the first department under the ministry to go live, the MCO is raising the standard and providing the model for others to follow,” he said.

He stressed that the OneGov system is not merely an automation tool but a secure, intelligent digital backbone capable of transforming governance.

“Our goal is to ensure every officer works smarter, faster and more securely, delivering greater value to citizens and investors,” Yabo added.

For MCO Director General, Obadiah Simon Nkom, the scheme was a historic moment for government efficiency nationwide, adding that the digital achievements had earned the agency national recognition, including the NIRA Award for Best Digital and Innovation Agency.

According to him, “This milestone is not just for the ministry or the mining sector. It is a milestone for the entire country.”

He disclosed that the agency’s revenue rose from ₦6.17 billion in 2023 to ₦12 billion in 2024, and has already surpassed ₦30 billion in 2025, attributing the increase to strong ministerial support, reforms, and compliance-driven digitization..

The Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Gana Nsuba, praised the MCO for “raising the bar” and aligning fully with the Federal Government’s OneGov Cloud agenda.

“The MCO is demonstrating what is possible through leadership, collaboration, and digital courage,” he noted.

Tinubu mourns ex-diplomat, Sokoya, hails lifetime of service, nation-building

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Ambassador James Duro Olufemi Sokoya, a veteran career diplomat and former Nigerian envoy, who passed away at the age of 94, describing him as a distinguished statesman whose life and service embodied the finest ideals of diplomacy and patriotism.

In a tribute he issued on Saturday, the President said while the nation mourns the passing of Ambassador Sokoya, Nigerians must also celebrate his remarkable life, enduring legacy and invaluable contributions to nation-building and Nigeria’s global standing.

Ambassador Sokoya, who was born in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, was described by the President as an extraordinary public servant who served the country with uncommon dedication, dignity and an unwavering belief in the power of dialogue to bridge divides and foster peace.

President Tinubu noted that Sokoya’s public service career began in the Old Western Region before Nigeria’s independence in 1960, where he worked as a teacher in primary and secondary schools as well as teacher-training colleges in Abeokuta, Ibadan and Ijebu-Ode.

During this period, he gained admission to the University of Ibadan to study Geography.

After graduating in 1960, Sokoya served in various ministries of the Western Nigeria government, including the Premier’s Office, where he distinguished himself through hard work, brilliance and patriotism, before transferring his service to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1962.

Throughout his diplomatic career, President Tinubu said, Ambassador Sokoya carried himself with calm wisdom, integrity and a deep commitment to service, noting that he understood diplomacy as more than negotiation but as a platform for building trust, nurturing peace and fostering enduring partnerships.

The President recalled that the late diplomat served in several strategic capacities, including as Head of the Asia Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Chief of Protocol under former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York; and as Head of the Nigerian Embassy in Bamako, Mali, in the capacity of Charge d’Affaires, as well as in Algiers, Algeria.

President Tinubu further highlighted Ambassador Sokoya’s instrumental role in Nigeria’s entry into the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and in the establishment of the Nigerian Embassy in Vienna, Austria. He also served as Deputy High Commissioner in London and later as Nigeria’s first Resident High Commissioner to Jamaica, with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and as High Commissioner to the Bahamas.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, the President described the late diplomat as a man of profound character, humble, principled and compassionate, who inspired younger diplomats through mentorship and positively impacted his community through kindness and service.

On behalf of the nation, President Tinubu expressed profound gratitude to Ambassador Sokoya for his devoted years of service, saying his legacy would remain a guiding light for generations of public servants.

The President extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends and associates of the late diplomat, praying that they find comfort in the knowledge that he left an indelible mark on Nigeria and all who knew him.

  • 2027: I remain loyal to Tinubu, Gov. Namadi – Sen Hussaini

2027: I remain loyal to Tinubu, Gov. Namadi – Sen Hussaini

The Senator representing Jigawa North-West Senatorial District, Babangida Hussaini, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi.

He, however, dismissed claims that he is preparing to contest the Jigawa governorship election in 2027.

In a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the senator described the reports as false, misleading and deliberately engineered to create tension and disunity within the APC.

Senator Hussaini stressed that his political priority remains supporting the Tinubu-led federal administration and the Namadi government to ensure the delivery of good governance and sustainable development to the people of Jigawa State.

According to him, certain individuals had recently appeared on radio programmes making unfounded allegations that he was positioning himself for the governorship race.

“Recently, certain individuals have appeared on radio programmes making unfounded allegations that I am preparing to contest for the governorship of Jigawa State,” the senator said.

He described the claims as entirely untrue and calculated to sow unnecessary discord within the party.

“These claims are entirely false and clearly intended to create unnecessary division and mischief within our great party,” the statement added.

The lawmaker also dismissed suggestions of any rift between himself and Governor Namadi, insisting that both leaders remain united and committed to a shared vision for the progress and stability of Jigawa State.

“His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar Namadi, and I remain members of one united party, working collaboratively and respectfully towards the progress and stability of Jigawa State,” Hussaini stated.

The senator further alleged that an individual identified as Magaji Dogo recently appeared on a private radio station to repeat the false narrative, allegedly attempting to mislead the public by wearing a campaign T-shirt bearing the images of both the senator and the governor.

“He went as far as wearing a T-shirt with my image alongside that of the governor, complemented with a cap, to falsely suggest that such statements originated from me,” Hussaini said.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), the lawmaker described the action as deceptive and completely untrue, while questioning the motive behind the propaganda.

“It is also important to ask: in his previous radio appearances, whose T-shirt was he wearing?” he queried.

Reiterating his political stance, Senator Hussaini said he remains firmly loyal to the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, adding that his commitment to the development of Jigawa State remains consistent and unwavering.

“I wish to reiterate, without ambiguity, that I remain firmly loyal to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to the government of our governor, Malam Umar Namadi,” he declared.

He called on the leadership of the APC to take decisive steps to address and curtail the spread of falsehoods capable of undermining party unity and discipline.

According to him, safeguarding the cohesion of the party is critical to maintaining focus on governance and development.

“It is important to safeguard the unity, integrity and cohesion of the APC, ensuring that misinformation and mischief do not distract us from our collective responsibility to build a stronger Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole,” the statement concluded.

Don Jazzy: Label bosses should treat artists with respect

Music mogul Don Jazzy has spoken about record label dynamics, stating that some label bosses fail to respect their artists.

Don Jazzy on X, advised new label heads to treat their artists like superstars from the start, allowing them to shine.

He attributes his approach to empowering his artists, letting them take center stage 90% of the time, and stepping in as necessary.

Don Jazzy added that newer label bosses might be emulating his “Don” persona but missing the mark by focusing on the wrong aspects.

He emphasised the importance of respecting and nurturing talent, rather than trying to control it.

“I might be wrong but i ve noticed some record label bosses dont respect their artists. If you know you are aiming at building a huge superstar, start from day one to accord them with that respect.

“And the thing is most of the new label bosses actually look up to me but copy the wrong thing cos of my Don persona. 90% of the time around my artists i let them be the superstars that they are. Its only 10% of the time that i really need to be Supremos”, he wrote.

Ṣọlá Allyson: Jesus needs no promotion, he’s not a brand

Singer Ṣọlá Allyson has spoken on her faith and approach to spirituality in a post on X.

She emphasised that Jesus’ teachings are about love, truth, and compassion, rather than image management or superficial religiosity.

Ṣọlá Allyson expressed her commitment to living a life that reflects the essence of Jesus’ teachings, stating that she will not be swayed by criticism or negativity.

She emphasised the importance of personal conviction and genuine spirituality, rather than seeking validation from others.

She wrote, “My name is ṢọláAllyson. I am a Singer. Jesus did not ask us to do PR for him. He is not a brand. He needs no PR. He just is. “Go ye” is a mandate.

“PR is an offshoot of the superficiality of religion which needs ‘tactics’…Convincing anyone to believe anything brings no true convictions. See us! Our “preach the gospel” is in all we are and do

“I have never denied Him. I always make my own efforts to DO as He Taught and Did. His ESSENCE, which is spread over all religions. Consecration. Love. Truth. He is my perfect example. Hence, I look up to NOBODY but Him

“He didn’t make himself the centre of honour. As much as he’s worthy of honour. He directed all to his father in heaven. Whom I know to be God Almighty: OLÚWA ỌLỌ́RUN OLÓDÙMARÈ. That ESSENCE all humans sense in some way but recognise differently, depending on their different understandings. Every language, culture, every spirit, every soul…

“My soul is not wrapped in the superficiality of religion. I do NOT apologize for that. I am just a being of love, light, and hope. And that’s ok for me, for Jesus. The Essence of Him, which I was led to and recognized by a deeper sensing, holds me on. And that’s my forever go-to! I will not be wrapped in the manipulation of religion. Jesus didn’t ignore or keep silent about His own purpose. So, re-introduction yí ma máa w’áyé l’óórèkóòrè.

“My pure soul just believed “ṣèbí I’m not troubling anybody, just shining GOD’S Light as I know. But strongholds will always find available souls to use to overwhelm a soul as mine. Even from close. See, I have just begun. No “finish” here. A new always! Olùgbéniró Ńbẹ l’óòró!”

The singer also announced that she has turned off comments on her social media platforms, citing the need to protect herself from dark energies and criticism.

“I turned off comments. It has become too draining to have a conversation with ‘us’. I am not a super being. I need my energy for my own “just becoming good” life.

“I need to protect myself from dark darts being hurled at me, hidden behind comments. Darts from hearts which were not already comfortable with my “audacity” so far and were waiting for anything, “she denied Jesus,” she added.

  • FG launches online platform for gas trading, exchange

FG launches online platform for gas trading, exchange

The federal government has launched an online platform for gas trading and exchange, also known as the Gas Trading Licence, Clearing House, and Settlement Authorization.

Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said it is a new dawn, with the gas industry emerging into a transparent, competitive, and investment-ready market.

He said, “I am pleased to join you today on this occasion of the launch of the first Gas Trading Licence and Clearing House & Settlement Authorization.

“This milestone event signifies the dawn of a new era where our gas industry will emerge with a transparent, competitive, and investment-ready market.”

He commended the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) leadership, headed by the Authority Chief Executive, Farouk A. Ahmed, and also to JEX Markets Limited for their innovative partnership efforts in developing the online platform.

According to him, the efforts will pave the way for smooth natural gas business, transparent pricing, efficient price determination, and secure payment mechanisms— hallmarks that align seamlessly with our national energy policies and global best practices.

He said the launch is completely consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who stated that natural gas will play a central role in energy security, industrialization, and economic diversification.

He said Nigeria is richly endowed with natural gas reserves, among the biggest in the world, but if the underlying market where the gas will flow is not efficient, reliable, and well-regulated, it will not be possible for stakeholders to realize the ultimate potential of the resource.

Ekpo stressed that the Gas Trading Licence introduced is paving the way for a new, regulated market where reliable traders will feel safe doing business, where businesses can plan, and where investors can invest, knowing that it will safeguard both their capital and the public interest.

He said in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, the Authority is mandated to regulate and monitor midstream and downstream operations; protect customers; set fair and transparent cost benchmarks; and ensure strict adherence to licence conditions.

The minister insisted that the Gas Trading Licence is, therefore, the implementation of the provisions of the licensing requirement that make the investment possible. It provides the governance framework essential for a modern gas industry.

Ekpo said the licence itself is founded upon sound regulations and guidelines governing technical competence, commercial capability, financial soundness, and responsible operations. Among the responsibilities of the licence holders is the adherence to the various rules on gas measurement, tariffs, pricing, and assignments.

Meanwhile, the NMDPRA Chief Executive Officer, Farouk Ahmed, said the formal presentation of the market enabling Licence is a culmination of an effective collaboration with the Industry.

He said it also reaffirms the commitment of the Authority to the actualization of one of the core objectives of the PIA, which is the growth of the domestic gas sector into a dynamic and competitive trading and supply hub.

Ahmed said as the regulator of Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector, the Authority recognizes that the true test of licensing JEX Markets is not in the ceremony of today, but in the transformation it must deliver tomorrow.

He vowed that NMDPRA would provide a firm, transparent, and technology-enabled regulatory platform to make JEX succeed.

“To ensure that JEX succeeds as Nigeria’s pioneering gas trading, clearing and settlement platform, we will provide a firm, transparent and technology‑enabled regulatory framework under the PIA, giving investors the certainty and confidence required to commit long‑term capital to the gas value chain, ” he said.

He pledged that the Authority will continue to work closely with sister regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and key financial‑market institutions, harmonize market rules, standardize transaction contracts, and ensure that clearing and settlement arrangements meet the highest global standards.

Continuing, he said, “We will actively deploy our licensing and regulatory instruments to drive participation in gas trading by producers, transporters, aggregators, and large‑scale buyers, ensuring that liquidity is built and that transparent price discovery becomes the foundation of Nigeria’s domestic gas market.

“In addition, we are committed to sustained capacity building, data transparency, and industry education, so that Nigerian companies are empowered to compete effectively and confidently in this new gas economy.

“Above all, we will position JEX as a strategic national platform within our Decade of Gas agenda to enable regional integration and cross‑border trade and firmly establish Nigeria not only as a leading gas producer, but as Africa’s reference market for gas trading and pricing.”

Jigawa, El-Meena farms launch $540m Alfalfa export push with Saudi group

The Jigawa State Government and El-Meena Farms Ltd have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to develop Nigeria’s largest fodder export corridor through the Jigawa Alfalfa Value Chain Development Project.

The public-private partnership targets the cultivation of 100,000 hectares of premium Alfalfa with projected annual export revenues between $440 million and $540 million. Saudi Arabia’s Alkhorayef Group is the technical partner for irrigation infrastructure.

The collaboration, which will create thousands of jobs, is structured around the NEXIM Bank–Saudi EXIM Bank export financing window, with an initial $5 million capital expenditure earmarked for acquiring advanced Center Pivot Irrigation Systems for the 1,000-hectare pilot phase.

Through Capemano Consulting, its representative in Nigeria, Alkhorayef Group will deploy world-class irrigation technology to ensure year-round, high-yield production targeting GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar, which require water-efficient, high-protein livestock feed.

Governor Umar Namadi, who described the project as a cornerstone of his administration’s economic agenda, said that the initiative represents an economic bridge between Nigeria and the Middle East.

“By combining Jigawa’s vast land resources with El-Meena’s operational expertise and Saudi Arabia’s superior irrigation technology, we are building a secure, high-value export corridor that aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said at the MoU signing in Dutse.

Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa said that the project conforms to President Tinubu’s agenda on food security and expanded agricultural production, confirming that work starts immediately.

“Priority number two of the President’s agenda focuses on boosting agriculture to achieve food security. The investment-friendly climate in Jigawa is one of the key reasons we are bringing this project here,” he explained.

Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Mohammed, illustrated Alfalfa as a transformative high-protein forage crop capable of boosting livestock productivity, generating mass employment, and expanding export revenues.

At the signing ceremony were Mr. Abubakar Abba Bello, MD, Nigeria Export Import Bank; Mr. Haruna Musa, MD of Jaiz Bank; Dr. Armstrong Takang, CEO of Ministry of Finance Incorporated, and representatives from the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and other institutions.

  • NIPR praises female students for winning young communicator awards

NIPR praises female students for winning young communicator awards

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has applauded female students from Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, and Nile University, Abuja, for winning the prestigious 2024/2025 Young Communicator Awards.

The honours were conferred under the National Spokespersons Awards of the IMPR at the sidelines of the 2025 Campus Journalism Awards (CJA) at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

During the presentation, Mrs. Maryam Sanusi, NIPR Membership Committee Chairman, described the recipients as “shining stars” whose achievements reflect young women’s rising influence in the communication profession and urged them to remain courageous in their pursuit of excellence.

Encouraging the awardees to view the recognition as motivation to achieve greater feats, Sanusi, the institute’s first female chairperson in FCT, said, “Believe in yourself. As ladies, what men can do, you can do even better because you are human beings with great potential.”

Sanusi commended the organisers for creating credible pathways that inspire emerging communication professionals and urged tertiary institutions to encourage their Mass Communication students to register as NIPR students and graduate members to attain associate membership.

She further invited universities and communication students to participate in the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) to be held in Abuja. During the ceremony, documentaries screened highlighted the remarkable work undertaken by the winners.

Fatima Garba Bako from MAAUN produced an investigation on Dansarai Primary School in Gezawa, Kano—a dilapidated facility used as a nighttime hideout by criminal gangs—prompting Kano State Government’s intervention. Her portfolio covers women’s rights, climate change, and food security.

The students from Nile University developed a strategic advocacy for the Arewa Economic Forum (AEF) on the proposed Bureau de Change (BDC) recapitalisation policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which raised BDC capital requirements from ₦35 million to ₦2 billion.

Their research revealed that the plan was unrealistic for many operators—particularly in northern Nigeria—and risked pushing some into illegal financial activities. The students’ campaign generated extensive media coverage, contributing to a months-long delay in the policy’s implementation.

The Young Communicator Awards celebrate exceptional contributions in public relations, journalism, and advocacy. The initiative is driven by PRNigeria’s Spokesperson’s Digest, under the Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), which runs the annual Young Communication Fellowship and the National Spokespersons Awards.

The Campus Journalism Awards (CJA) is Nigeria’s leading platform honouring excellence in student journalism. Since its establishment in 2018, the CJA has evolved into a national movement, attracting over 2,500 entries from more than 100 tertiary institutions.
