Governor Yusuf rejects report claiming Kano has highest insecurity level

The Kano State government has dismissed a report alleging that the state recorded the highest level of insecurity in Nigeria.

Governor Abba Yusuf, speaking through the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the publication as “false, misleading, and completely untrue.”

Waiya made the clarification while addressing journalists after defending his ministry’s proposed 2026 budget before the Kano State House of Assembly.

He said Kano has continued to make significant progress in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.

The commissioner urged journalists and media organisations to adhere to professional ethics by ensuring fairness, objectivity, and accuracy in reporting.

Waiya also cautioned against allowing the media to be used to advance political interests, warning that irresponsible journalism can undermine public trust and escalate tensions.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining security collaborations with law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to ensure Kano remains one of the most peaceful states in the country.

JUST IN: Gunmen kidnap five Rivers varsity students

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have abducted about five students of the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwu, Port Harcourt, at their residence in Emuoha Local Government Area of the state.

Prior to the incident, the off-campus students in Emuoha satellite campus protested their constant attacks and harassment by hoodlums and called on the management of the school to relocate them to the main campus in Port Harcourt.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP. Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the abduction of the students, describing the suspects as cultists.

Iringe-Koko said the miscreants shot many times before whisking the students to an unknown destination.

She said tactical police personnel had been deployed to rescue the students and apprehend the suspects.

She said, “They were abducted by cultists. In the early hours of Tuesday a group of cultists numbering five stormed an isolated area of Rumuchi/Rumuohia, shot and abducted five persons to an unknown destination.

“We (police) have put efforts in place for their safe rescue. As I speak, the Commissioner of Police has gone there with tactical teams to ensure they regain their freedom.”

But one of the students, who escaped from the abductors, said the gunmen stormed their residence at about 2 am and killed the security dog.

The female student said she called her father, who contacted the Emuoha Police Division, but complained that there was no response.

She said that the attackers shot at her while they came from the bush to pursue her.

She said, “He was running after me and even shot at me. I don’t know how many times. I couldn’t even look back because I was more focused on escaping.

“So the person just stopped and went back to my compound. Then someone from the bush came out and ran after me. I had to run faster to the gate of the person who was supposed to open it for me. Some of our students, about four or so, are missing now.”

Frank Itom warns men over inappropriate messages

Content creator Frank Itom has issued a stern warning to men sending him inappropriate messages on Instagram, particularly married men.

In an Instagram story post, Itom expressed frustration over the “risky” messages he has received from both single and married men, noting his particular displeasure with married men hitting on him.

Itom, who married DANG founder Ifedayo Agoro earlier this year, warned that he will block single men who continue to send such messages and report married men to their wives.

“You’re a man, married to a woman, and you’re sending risky DMs to a straight man? Not with me. If you’re unmarried, I’ll block you. If you’re married, I’ll find your wife and send it to her. Final warning,” he wrote, urging men to respect boundaries.

Nasboi pleads with 2Baba to ‘take control’ amid controversy

Comedian and singer Nasboi has penned an emotional open letter to music icon 2Baba, urging him to address recent controversies surrounding his personal life.

In the letter, Nasboi expressed distress over online videos and news, citing the respect and admiration he has held for 2Baba since adolescence.

He highlighted 2Baba’s character and humility, qualities that inspired him and many others.

Nasboi pleaded with 2Baba to reclaim his public image, referencing a song that resonates with the situation.

He wrote, “Dear King 2Face Idibia (2 baba) @official2baba. I feel genuinely heartbroken seeing some of the embarrassing videos and news about you circulating online. It hurts because you have always been my mentor. I’ve looked up to you since I was 16. I loved every bit of your music, your personality, and the humility you carried yourself. In fact, you were one of the people who taught me what it means to be humble.

“You have had your criticism in the past, but your character and humility still stood tall. I never knew you as someone who fought publicly, argued online, or created drama. The 2Face I grew up loving was calm, humble, and carried himself with grace.

“I know every family has its issues, but one thing I know about 2baba is how he never speaks on things like this. No matter what happened behind closed doors, you never brought it outside.

“Sir, you may have your private battles with anyone in your life that is normal, but the version of events being brought online now is damaging and unfamiliar to those of us who truly love and respect you. Your current situation is presenting a side of you that many of us have never seen, and it is painful to watch. Please, sir… for the sake of people like me who have loved you from a young age… Please take control of this situation.

“We still believe in you. We still admire you. We still want to see the 2Baba we grew up respecting. This message is from a boy who has loved you since he was 16. I chose this particular song because suddenly, the lyrics hit differently. With respect, love, and deep concern, a loyal fan.”

  • Those who want to kill PDP will fail, says Turaki

Those who want to kill PDP will fail, says Turaki

Immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, on Tuesday formally handed over the party’s affairs to the newly elected National Working Committee during the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan.

At the handover ceremony, the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said his leadership is committed to returning the PDP to the people. He described the party as “the party to beat” in Nigeria and acknowledged ongoing efforts by some to undermine it.

Recalling the commitment of the outgoing leadership, Turaki said, “Immediately after our election at the convention in Ibadan, you promised that you and members of the executive would prepare a comprehensive handover note to help us understand where you were coming from and where you were at the time of your departure, so we could navigate the affairs of this party. Today, as God would have it, that pledge has been fulfilled. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us.”

He assured the former leadership of their continued engagement, saying, “We are up to the task. We will continue to take inspiration, guidance, and advice from you. Though you are out, you are not gone. We will need your support and uncommon guidance, because, as the saying goes, the woman who first becomes a mother will certainly have more broken hopes than the one who comes after.”

Turaki emphasised that the outgoing leadership still has much to contribute toward elevating the PDP to the highest level it aspires to reach during the next four years.

“We are today at a crossroads, because we are in a situation where some believe that the PDP must be killed, the PDP must be destroyed, the PDP must be isolated because of the threat we pose to them. But the fact remains that in a democracy, you should live and let others live.

“We have promised since our assumption of office that we are taking this party back to the Nigerian people. This party is called the People’s Party, and if it is the People’s Party, we must take it back to the people. We said there would be no impunity, no injustice. There will be a level playing field, transparency, and, above all, fairness.

“I want to affirm, on behalf of the new members of the NWC, that we still stand by that pledge we made in Ibadan

“The handover report of your stewardship is in two volumes. This is Volume 1, and this is Volume 2. I assure you, Your Excellency, that we will sit down, examine the reports carefully, and take guidance from whatever is inside.

“Once again, I want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is on the rise again, and there is no stopping us. Thank you very much.”

In his brief remarks, Damagun said, “This handover for us is part of our responsibility to address this NWC. We ought to have done it immediately after we came out of the National Convention, but we have been trying to compile our handover note, realising time. There is no better time than now. It is better late than never.

“Today, I am presenting my stewardship so that it will serve as a guide as you navigate the leadership of this party. I know it is coming at a time when we are bedevilled by many challenges. The beauty of the PDP is its ability to surmount all obstacles we have faced and to continue to overcome every challenge by doing what is right.

“The PDP is still the party to beat in this country. That is why you see that they (the ruling APC) are losing sleep. Every day, we cross one hurdle; they place another before us, we cross it, and continue. All this happens by God’s blessing.

“The most important thing is that we are people of faith who believe God will always see us through. We are positive. In other words, God is a just God and does not support injustice. You may have temporary respite through your injustices, but when God’s justice descends on you, then you realise that He alone is absolute.

  • Drama in Senate as Goje protests Akpabio’s ‘halt’ of proceedings

Drama in Senate as Goje protests Akpabio’s ‘halt’ of proceedings

There was a mild drama in the Senate on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio temporarily halted proceedings to confer privately with a group of lawmakers, drawing sharp objection from Senator Danjuma Goje (APC-Gombe Central).

Akpabio arrived in the chamber around 12:10 p.m. while plenary, presided over by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, was already in progress.

He smoothly took over as senators considered scheduled bills.

Barely ten minutes later, the Senate President summoned the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, to his seat for a private consultation. Soon, other senators—including Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South), Titus Zam (Benue North-West), and Barau Jibrin gathered around his chair.

The discussions, which lasted over 40 minutes, brought the plenary to a halt.

Many senators left their seats to chat among themselves, while others engaged in side conversations, leaving the chamber noisy and disorganised.

Dissatisfied with the disruption, Goje raised a point of order, warning that prolonged private consultations during an active session violated Senate procedure.

He cited Order 55 of the Senate Standing Rules, which prohibits interruptions to ongoing proceedings, insisting that such discussions should be held outside the chamber.

“Interaction is not allowed. What is happening now is unparliamentary,” Goje said. “You should have taken this meeting outside. Everything is at a standstill; this is not our actual business.

“We should go on recess; when we are ready, we can return and meet you.”

Responding, Akpabio explained that he had invited the senators for a brief consultation on an urgent assignment scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Presidential Villa.

“Everybody you see here was invited by the chair for a brief discussion in continuation of today’s sitting and in line with the order you’ve just read, whether or not we should proceed in view of a very urgent assignment at the Villa,” he said.

Akpabio then asked Goje to approach the chair and join the discussion, an invitation the former governor declined.

“I don’t want to be part of it,” Goje replied.

  • Taye Arimoro challenges guilds’ suspension, threatens N1bn suit

Taye Arimoro challenges guilds’ suspension, threatens N1bn suit

Actor Taye Arimoro has challenged his suspension by the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and Association of Movie Producers (AMP) over an on-set altercation with Peggy Ovire.

The incident occurred on the set of the movie “Pieces of Love.”

In a strongly-worded letter, Arimoro’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, argued the guilds’ decision is “procedurally improper, legally indefensible, and constitutionally void”.

Key concerns include misidentification, lack of jurisdiction, and procedural flaws.

According to Effiong, the guilds referred to Arimoro as “Taiye Ayimoro” instead of Taiwo Arimoro, and failed to afford him a fair hearing.

Arimoro, a non-member of the guilds, asserted that the disciplinary actions are ultra vires and an unlawful interference with his acting career.

“Our client is not a member of the DGN, AGN, or AMP. These three bodies lack jurisdiction to discipline or regulate him in any manner whatsoever.

“No association is empowered by law to exercise coercive or disciplinary powers over persons who are not its members or beneficiaries of its Constitution.

“Any sanction, directive, or instruction issued against our Client is therefore ultra vires and legally unenforceable”, it reads in part.

The letter cites multiple grounds for objection, including failure to disclose evidence and gross violation of Arimoro’s right to freedom of association.

The actor demands retraction of sanctions, a written apology, and public dissemination within 24 hours or face a N1 billion lawsuit.

“Take notice that if DGN, AGN, and AMP fail, refuse, or neglect to comply with the demands above, our Client has given us a standing instruction to immediately commence legal proceedings against the DGN, AGN and AMP and their respective Presidents, seeking, inter alia, the sum of ₦1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion Naira) in damages”, the statement reads in part.

Effiong stated, “A stitch in time saves nine,” urging the guilds to remedy the injustice and avoid litigation.
