    Actress Toyin Abraham has penned an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his inauguration on Monday. 

     She explained why she supported his candidacy despite the heavy criticisms and backlash she received.

    The actress stated that she is not motivated by ethnicity or religion when it comes to her choice of leaders

    Her support for Tinubu, she said, is because of his performances as a Senator and a Governor, stating she believes he would do better as a President.

    Toyin urged the President to listen to the concerns of the people and address their fears about the future to restore public confidence.

     Singer Kingsley Okonkwo aka Kcee has finally responded to Asa’s last year’s rant against him.

    In the course of an interview with media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Bounce Radio, the Nigeria-French songstress reportedly branded Kcee a “idiot.”

    “For Kcee, finishing ahead of me [in Star Quest] is like a Grammy award for him. He is such an idiot,” she said.

    But speaking in an interview with GoldmyneTV, Kcee explained as a legend, he doesn’t care what anyone says or thinks about him.

    He stated Asa’s love or hate plays no role in the increase of his wealth 

    The 44-year-old Ajegunle-born entertainer, however, emphasised Asa was an inspiration to many people while claiming to be a lover of her music as well as her fan.

    “I’m a legend. I don’t listen to no one. I don’t care about what anybody says about me”, he said.

    “I have the right to say whatever I wanna say at anytime, anywhere.

    “I still believe I love her songs and I love her music. I’m her fan. If she loves me or hates me, it adds nothing to my pocket,” he said.

    Fast-rising Afropop singer Ayra Starr has expressed deep yearning for return of old praise and worship songs.

    Currently in London, the 20-year-old ‘Sability’ crooner wished churches would rekindle the fire of praise and worship sessions by bringing back old songs 

    “Please bring old praise and worship songs back to the church,” the Cotonou-born songster tweeted.

    But one Mr Morale subtly shaded the singer over her signature dress code known to be scanty and skimpy.

    He tweeted: “Please bring gowns and long skirts back to dressing.

    Another tweep, Emmanuel Henry supported Mr Morale’s remark, stating: “Please bring old fashion style back to your wardrobe.”

    But most people agreed with the Mavin star girl arguing the new generation praise and worship songs lack the ‘spirit-filled’ and uplifting essence which the old ones possessed.

    Alaran congratulates Tinubu, Makinde after inauguration

    A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Saheed Alaran has congratulated the new President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    He also felicitated with Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde who was sworn in for second term in office.

    A statement by Alaran urged the duo of Tinubu and Makinde to rally support of Nigerians to revamp the nation’s socio-economic situation, as well as improve security of the country.

    The politician said the two major areas of human life mentioned need to be worked on so that Nigerians who have their hope of a better nation will be fulfilled under the new administration.

    He said: “The hopes are high and expectations about a new, better Nigeria in which the lives of our people will change for better, will be achieved. These changes are important in our socioeconomic and security aspects so that we can have a Nigeria without fear of insecurity.”

    “We pray for our Governor Seyi Makinde on his inauguration today as a second-term governor, you have done very well for the people of Oyo State and we are sure that you will leverage on the achievements of the first term to do better in the second term.”

    Alaran said has God chosen Tinubu and Makinde, saying they would do all within their means to change fortunes of Nigerians for the best.

    According to him: “We believe God give power to whoever HE chooses, we thank God for the two of them that ALLAH considered them worthy of that rare grace. God will enable them to do well and meet the expectations of ordinary Nigerians.

    “The moments at hand are complex but God will simplify it via their divined and people-oriented policies and programmes, these we pray that we shall experience under the new administrations.”

    Shade Ladipo, a media personality, has mocked comedian-cum-actor, Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth, referring to him as ‘Uncle 30k’.

    Ladipo via her insta story, shaded Basketmouth in a congratulatory post made to his colleague, Ayo Makun aka AY for the special honour awarded to him by former president, Muhammadu Buhari.

    Buhari authorised the presentation of 340 Nigerians and foreign guests with special national honours for 2023 in a number of categories as a parting gift.

    The Special National Award 2023 comprises, among others, judges of the Supreme and Appeal Courts, traditional leaders, politicians, departing ministers, legal practitioners, bankers, entertainers, and sportsmen, among others.

    Hailing Buhari, Ladipo noted the only thing he did for her was award ‘constantly undervalued’ AY over Basketmouth who she called ‘Uncle 30k’ (referring to the N30,000 reportedly responsible for the long-standing feud between AY and Basketmouth).

    “The only thing that Bubu did for me was to award AY over that Uncle 30k. Truly AY has been constantly undervalued.

    “That other uncle has more pride than Elon Musk meanwhile nothing dey him pocket. I hope the new smallie he’s carrying will finish his money so we can rest,” she wrote.

    Yeni Kuti, daughter of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has said in an interview with Chude Jideonwo the late musician was not a good father.

    She insisted Fela should have “stayed without children because he didn’t give any child preferential treatment because you are his child. He should have just been the father of the nation.”

    Despite not being a great dad, the 62-year-old dancer and TV presenter explained she lacked the courage to face him at the time.

    However, she noted her brother, Femi and their father were always at loggerheads because of the legendary singer’s shortfalls in his parenting style.

    “He (Fela) was not quite a good father. No, I never told him that he isn’t a good father. Maybe Femi, not me.

    “Femi and Fela used to have battles. And Femi will give it to him straight. Shola and I, we were like timid. 

    “You know, they said, ‘When two elephants are fighting, the grass will keep quiet.

    “I can remember one day, Fela just came and said, ‘Three of you are useless children’. 

    “Femi just said, ‘For what?’ Femi just started facing him and then they started facing each other. 

    “Shola and I will say, ‘It’s okay’. Fela will say, ‘No’. And Femi just said, ‘Let him go’.”

    “I don’t think I have ever had that kind of confrontation with my father. Maybe because I was a woman,” she said.

    Nigeria needs a decisive President like Tinubu – CAN

    The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Monday said the country needs a decisive President like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

    CAN said this while congratulating the new President. 

    A statement  by the CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh said: “On behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the new President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he assumes office today.

    “This is a momentous occasion for Nigeria, and we wish President Tinubu well as he takes on the responsibilities of leading our great nation.

    Okoh urged Tinubu to prioritise these issues and work tirelessly to find lasting solutions that will improve the livelihoods of Nigerians.

    He said: “As we face our common challenges, Nigerians must come together as a people with a spirit of unity and a great sense of accommodation to form a potent force. To this end, we believe that as His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu engages the active participation of all Nigerians regardless of their political, ethnic and religious leanings, Nigeria can overcome all obstacles to emerge stronger than ever.

    “Once again, we congratulate President Tinubu and wish him all the best as he begins the onerous task of leading Nigeria at this time of our national history”.

    Why I won’t reject national honor, by AY Makun

    Comedian AY Makun has rejected calls to turn down the national honour bestowed on him. 

    The Federal Government at the weekend listed him as one of the 379 Nigerians to get national honour.

    He was guven the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) honour. 

    Many fans called on him to reject the honour because he was backing the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

    But the comedian balked at the idea. He tweeted: ‘’Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point.

    ” Our country is bigger and more important than any president or political party  awarding it. 

    “A national honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation building.

    ” So my allegiance is to a country where i have contributed my own quota, and i am more than  happy to be rewarded by the same nation.”

    The medals and certificates are scheduled to be collected on June 1.

    UI distance learning centre to hold screening, entrance exam

    The University of Ibadan (UI) Distance Learning Centre (DLC) has said the Centre would on Friday June 2 conduct an admission screening exercise for the first batch of applicants. 

    The university also said examination for the O’Level fresh applicants to the University’s Undergraduate programmes via the ODeL has been scheduled for Saturday, 3 and 17, June 2023 respectively.

    A statement by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Babatunde Omobowale stated application form is open to candidates with at least five relevant credit passes in WAEC or NECO for admission into 100 Level.

    He said: “Candidates seeking admission into the 200 Level with OND or HND must have obtained minimum of Upper Credit for the Direct or Fast Track Entries in undergraduate programmes including B.Sc. Computer Science, BSc Sociology, BSW Social Works, B.Sc Psychology, B.Sc Political Science, B.A Communications and Language Arts, B.Ed Educational Management. 

    He noted that “A” Level, NCE and First degree holders are also eligible for Direct and Fast Track admission upon meeting the admission requirements.

    He said sitting for the JAMB examination is not required to gain admission to study in the University via the flexible ODeL mode, but candidate upon admission would be required to effect registration on JAMB Portal for the purpose of obtaining admission letter.

    Omobowale stated that due to the parity of esteem policy operated by the University, students on the two Modes of Studies take the same courses and are taught by the same lecturers, either physical or virtual classes.

    “They also sit for the same standard of examinations and are ultimately  awarded the same prestigious UI certificates as well as enjoy privilege of being mobilised for the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).”

    He however said all O’level candidates in ODeL Mode who may not be able to come down to the University’s physical address for verification can go to the University ’s Web Address (https://dlcportal.ui.edu.ng), and request for online verification of results, saying once students are verified, they would be able to continue with their registration from their locations
