Exam malpractice: Candidates must declare previous registration history, says JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has said candidates must declare their previous registration and admission history with the board, stressing that some students were involved in examination malpractice during the conduct of last year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Oloyede said only candidates who will not be less than 16 years old by September 30, 2026 are generally eligible to apply for the UTME and be considered for admission.

The registrar noted that underage candidates who will be less than 16 years old by 30th September, 2026,  will undergo an intensive evaluation to determine their eligibility for a waiver, adding that such must have scored not less than 80 percent in each of UTME/A’LEVEL, PUTME, SSCE and in the exceptional candidate assessment.

Oloyede said: “The sale of UTME application document which is the ePIN, will start earlier than commencement of actual registration which is Jan. 19 to Feb. 26.

“Actual UTME registration period is between Jan. 26th to Feb. 28th at all approved CBT Centres.

“The close of  mock selection is Feb. 16 while the sale of DE application documents and E-PIN vending will commence on March 2, and close by April 25,” he said.

Oloyede revealed that 924 centres had been screened and provisionally listed, adding that they would go through the final test before final accreditation to participate in the UTME registration and examination.

The JAMB Registrar stated that candidates  are  not required to pay any money as service charge to any CBT centre.

    PDP’s Ajadi ally welcomes Ajirotutu

A former spokesman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the South-West and the Personal Assistant to Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Kilamuwaye Oladayo Badmus, has welcomed Hon. Wasiu Ajirotutu into the PDP.

Ajirotutu, a former 2023 Ogun East senatorial candidate of the NNPP, officially defected to the PDP on Friday, during the PDP South-West Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The stakeholders’ meeting, which attracted top party leaders from across the region, was described as a “turning point” for the PDP’s renewal in the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Saturday, Badmus described Ajirotutu’s defection as a major boost to the party’s strength in the South-West.

He said Ajirotutu played a significant political role during his time in the NNPP, particularly during the 2023 general elections, and expressed confidence that his experience would further strengthen the PDP’s chances in the coming elections.

Badmus said: “Hon. Wasiu Ajirotutu is a man of immense political experience and influence. His defection to the PDP is a strong signal that the party remains the most viable platform for progress and development in the South-West. We welcome him with open arms.”

He added: “Ajirotutu’s contributions during the 2023 elections were notable. He mobilized support, strengthened party structures, and ensured that the NNPP made a meaningful impact in Ogun State. We believe that he will bring that same energy and dedication to the PDP.”

Badmus also emphasized that the PDP is currently undergoing a strategic repositioning in the South-West, noting that the party is attracting key political actors who are committed to unity and good governance.

  • Minority caucus report tax reform laws overtaken by events – Reps Deputy Spokesperson

Minority caucus report tax reform laws overtaken by events – Reps Deputy Spokesperson

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, on Saturday, said that the interim report by the Minority Caucus Ad-hoc Committee on alleged alterations in the Tax Reforms Acts has been overtaken by events, following the release of the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the laws.

According to the committee’s preliminary findings, a comparison of the Certified True Copies released by the House with the earlier gazetted versions confirmed that alterations had been made, particularly to the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025.

The committee’s report indicated that at least three different versions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act were in circulation, while the directive to “align” the Acts with the Federal Government Printing Press pointed to “procedural anomalies” that illegally encroached on the legislative powers of the National Assembly.

Agbese, while reacting to the report, argued that the leadership of the National Assembly had already taken decisive steps to address all concerns surrounding the discrepancies in the gazetted tax laws.

Agbese said the House, under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, in collaboration with the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had ensured the public release of the authentic versions of the four tax reform Acts as passed by the National Assembly and assented to by the President.

According to him, the release of the Certified True Copies effectively resolved the issues raised over alleged alterations, restored public confidence and reaffirmed the independence and authority of the legislature.

“The concerns raised regarding discrepancies in the tax laws have already been comprehensively addressed by the House leadership. With the release of the Certified True Copies of the Acts, there is now clarity as to what was passed by the National Assembly and signed into law,” Agbese said.

He noted that the Speaker had also directed an internal verification process to ensure that only the authentic versions of the laws were in circulation, stressing that this action demonstrated the commitment of the House to transparency, due process and the protection of democratic institutions.

Agbese added that the proactive steps taken jointly by the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly showed that the legislature was united in safeguarding its constitutional role and preventing any erosion of its law-making powers.

While acknowledging the right of lawmakers to raise concerns in the interest of accountability, the Deputy Spokesperson maintained that the corrective measures already implemented made further controversy unnecessary.

“The House has acted swiftly and responsibly. The leadership did not wait for public pressure to mount before taking action. The release of the Certified Acts has settled the matter and ensured that Nigerians are guided only by the correct and lawful versions of the tax reforms,” he said.

Agbese assured Nigerians that the House of Representatives would continue to work with the Senate and relevant institutions to strengthen legislative processes and prevent a recurrence of such issues in the future.
