Coca-Cola Nigeria launches Coke with meals promo

Coca-Cola Nigeria has launched a consumer promotion valued at N600 million, positioning it as a volume-driving push tied to everyday meal consumption across the country.

The campaign, which runs from January to June 30, 2026, the company’s Senior Director, Frontline Marketing, Nigeria, Yusuf Murtala, said, is structured to deliver frequent cash payouts, including the creation of over 300 millionaires within the six-month period.

Under the promotion, branded “Buy, Scan, Find, Win,” Murtala explained that two new millionaires will emerge daily, alongside weekly rewards valued at N52 million, a scale that underscores the company’s aggressive spend on consumer incentives amid intense competition in Nigeria’s non-alcoholic beverage market.

Participation, according to him, is linked directly to product purchase. Consumers who buy eligible Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, or Schweppes in PET or glass bottles can scan a QR code on the packaging and enter a 10-character code under the cap or crown to determine instant winnings.

The mechanic, he emphasised, is designed to encourage repeat purchases and sustained engagement across retail channels nationwide.

Speaking on the strategy behind the promotion, Murtala said: “Every Coca-Cola bottle is made to turn everyday moments into a celebration, and with this we are taking that promise even further for our consumers.”

He added, “Whether they are enjoying a meal or toasting to a small win with a Coca-Cola, with this promo, those special moments become a double win as they continue celebrating life’s joys while standing a chance to win exciting cash and prizes.”

From a business standpoint, the campaign, Murtala said, reinforces the company’s focus on driving consumption frequency around meals, a critical battleground as disposable incomes remain pressured and brands compete for share of stomach.

By anchoring the incentive to everyday eating occasions and spreading payouts over months, the company, he added, is effectively trading margin for scale, data capture, and brand stickiness in Africa’s largest consumer market.

Alleged N80.2b fraud: Yahaya Bello’s lawyer claims client’s trial is political

The lead lawyer to former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, Joseph Daudu (SAN), has claimed that the trial of his client was political, adding that it has nothing to do with money laundering.

Daudu made the assertion at the resumed hearing on Wednesday in Bello’s money laundering trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Bello is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 19-count charge relating to money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds estimated at ₦80.2 billion.

Daudu made the claim in reaction to remarks made during Wednesday’s proceedings by prosecuting lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), who alleged that what happened in the manner Local Government Areas in Kogi State made payments was stealing by disguise.

In the course of proceedings, the seventh prosecution witness (PW7) Olomotane Egoro (a Compliance Officer with Access Bank) said the defendant did not serve as a Local Government Chairman in any of the Local Governments in Kogi State.

Egoro noted that the contracts in respect of which payments were made were awarded by Local Government Chairmen for various purposes to contractors, as shown in statements of the bank accounts of some companies tendered and admitted as exhibits by the court.

The witness, who was being cross-examined by Daudu, stated that there was no mention of the degendant’s name in any of the local government transactions under investigation.

Looking through the bank statements, the witness said the name, Yahaya Bello did not appear, either as a sender or a recipient of Local Governments’ funds.

He confirmed that on the face of Exhibit 33(11), the entries in the transactions between the local governments and Keyless Nature Limited were consistent with normal banking transactions.

The witness denied knowing the purpose for which all the payments were made, adding that he did not know, from the bank statements, whether there was any business or contractual relationship between the local governments and a firm , Keyless Nature Limited.

The witness noted also that a customer had the right to spend his money anyhow he liked unless there was an issue of fraud.

PW7 admitted that in respect of transactions in Exhibit 33(11), his bank was not under court order and have no report of fraud.

The witness said the payment made into one Fayzade Business Enterprise was an inflow from Okene Local Government Area.

He added that the purpose as stated was for the supply of reading materials.

He listed the purposes of payments from Ogorimagongo, Okehi, Omala and Yagba LGAs as education materials (N4.4 million); medical items (N7.5 million); Sporting equipment (N10.8 million); and medical consumables (N12.2 million), respectively, among others.

The purposes of other payments ranged from agrochemicals to farm inputs and also medical consumables, according to the witness.

Further hearing in the case resumes on Thursday before Justice Emeka Nwite.

  • Alleged cyberstalking: Court rejects Sowore’s documents in trial on false claim against Tinubu

Alleged cyberstalking: Court rejects Sowore’s documents in trial on false claim against Tinubu

…frowns at report of live streaming of proceedings

A Federal High Court in Abuja in two rulings on Wednesday rejected two sets of documents tendered by politician and online publisher, Omoyele Sowore in his ongoing trial on cyberstalking charge.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly making false claim against the person of Present Bola Tinubu by referring to him as a criminal in a post he made on his “X” and Facebook accounts.

In the first ruling on Wednesday, Justice Mohammed Umar declined an oral application by Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar that a set of documents, comprising print outs of publications, be admitted in evidence.

The publications include media reports about DSS’ dismissal of 115 officials for misconduct, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charging five ex-governors with corruption, EFCC’s sacking 27 of its officials over fraud and misconduct and EFCC’s arrest of some ex-staff of the NNPCL over N7.2billion fraud.

In the ruling, Justice Umar agreed with prosecuting lawyer, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN) that the best opportunity for the defendant to tender the documents is during the conduct of his defence.

The judge held that since the first prosecution witness (PW1) being cross-examined by Abubakar said he knew nothing about the publications contained in the documents, such documents could not be tendered through the witness.

“You cannot tender a document through a witness who said he did not know anything about it.

The document is marked as rejected,” Justice Umar said.

In the second ruling, the judge rejected another set of documents which comprised of print outs of publications which Abubakar claimed showed that President Bola Tinubu had in 2011 called then President Goodluck Jonathan a drunkard and sinking fisherman, and also called former President Olusegun Obasanjo an expired meat.

The judge marked the documents rejected for the same reason he gave in rejecting the first set of documents.

Justice Umar frowned at the report by the prosecuting lawyer that a member of the defence team had live streamed previous proceedings in the case and urged the court to order an investigation to identify the person behind it.

Although Abubakar denied that any member of the defence team was involved and claimed that it could have been done by the DSS or people in the presidency, the judge said such conduct amounted to contempt of court.

Abubakar urged the court to only caution against a repeat of such incident, but to decline the request by the prosecuting lawyer that an investigation be ordered by the court.

Justice Umar said it was easy to identify the person behind the incident and that he could direct security agencies to investigate the issue because it was a serious matter.

Although the judge promised to address the issue at the end of the day’s proceedings, he however, remained silent on it when adjourning the case.

While being cross-examined, PW2, Cyril Nosike (an official of the DSS) said as at the time Sowore made the post in respect of which he is being prosecuted,  President Tinubu’s official X (twitter) handle was @officialABAT

The witness rejected Abubakar’s suggestion that the President’s official X handle is @PBAT.

Nosike said he did not tender any court judgment before the court to show that corruption has ended in Nigeria.

On whether there is corruption in Nigeria, the witness said he is not a politician and cannot make comment on such an issue, adding that the defence lawyer was merely asking for his opinion, saying: “I am not here to give my an opinion, but to state the facts.”

He faulted claim by Abubakar that the DSS dismissed 115 of its officials for corruption, explaining that they were dismissed after internal investigation and not because of corruption as claimed by the defence lawyer.

The witness denied knowing that in 2025 the EFCC charge five ex-governor to court because of corruption; that the EFCC arrested ex-staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over N7.2billion fraud and that the EFCC dismissed 27 of its officers for fraud and misconduct.

On whether as a security officer he is aware of global corruption ranking, witness said he is not aware of global corruption ranking. He also said he is not aware of the Transparency International corruption index.

The witness equally said he is not aware that Nigeria is ranked 140 among the 180 countries captured in the global corruption index.

On whether he knows that as at 2011, the current president was a major opposition figure in the country, witness said he did not know.

On whether he is aware the in 2011 the current president called then President Goodluck Jonathan corrupt and shameless, the witness said he is not aware.

Nosike also said he is not aware that the current President called Jonathan a drunkard and a sinking fisherman.

On whether he knows former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the witness said yes. He however said

he is unaware that President Tinubu called ex-President Obasanjo an expired meat.

The witness said he would be surprised if shown documents where Tinubu allegedly made such comments about the two former presidents.

When asked if he has heard of the name Femi Fani Kayode, who is now an ambassador designate, the witness said yes, but added that he could not recall that Fani Kayode was a vocal critic of the President before his nomination as ambassador.

Nosike denied knowledge of the claim by Abubakar that Fani Kayode made a post on social media alleging that President Tinubu knew something about the death of Funso Williams, who was a governorship candidate in Lagos State.

The witness said he is not aware that the DSS screened Fani Kayode as an ambassador designate because that did not form part of his schedule.

Nosike said he could not recall that Funso Williams was murdered in Lagos while President Tinubu was the governor of the state.

He admitted knowing Chief Reno Omokri and confirmed that Omokri is an ambassador designate, appointed by this government.

The witness said he is not aware of Omokri’s social media post claiming that Tinubu knows about the murder of Funso Williams, adding that he has not come across videos of Omokri saying Tinubu knows about Funso Williams’ murder.

The witness said he is not aware that Omokri staged a protest against President Tinubu in London claiming that he (the President) was involved in drug trafficking and knew about Funso Williams’ murder.

After spending one hour and 40 minutes on the cross examination of the PW1, Justice Umar asked Abubakar when he was going to conclude with the witness having cross-examined him for two days.

Abubakar prayed the court for one more day l, claiming he has more important questions and documents to confront the witness with.

Responding Kehinde recalled that Abubakar had, on the last date, sought for additional one hour to conclude, but has spent one hour and 40 minutes and yet claimed he was not done with the witness.

Kehinde said  he would prefer to allow the judge decide whether or not to grant the adjournment being sought by the defence.

Ruling, Justice Umar noted that this is the second day the defence has been cross examining the PW1.

The judge added that although on the last date, Abubakar sought for one hour, he has spent one hour and 40 minutes and has again asked for additional date.

He, however, granted the adjornment sought by the defence, saying: “In the spirit of fairness, I will adjourn for the last time for cross examination,” and proceeded to adjourn till March 5 for further cross examination.

JUST IN: Former Benue governor Suswam dumps PDP

Former Governor Gabriel Torwua Suswam has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing lingering internal conflicts as the primary reason for his decision.

In a letter dated February 4, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Benue State, Suswam formally communicated his resignation from the party.

He said the decision was difficult, noting that the PDP had given him the platform to serve Nigeria in several capacities, including as a member of the House of Representatives, Governor of Benue State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Suswam appreciated the confidence and support the party extended to him throughout his political career.

However, he expressed concern that the PDP has been plagued by persistent and unresolved disputes relating to leadership, party structure, discipline, and ideology, without any clear resolution in sight.

He added that despite multiple reconciliation efforts and public assurances, the party remains engulfed in deep internal dysfunction, operating in a prolonged state of crisis without a consensus-driven solution.

As a committed democrat, Suswam found it challenging to reconcile his membership with his personal convictions and desire to contribute meaningfully to nation-building within a stable political framework.

He emphasized that political parties should serve as platforms for ideas and constructive engagement, rather than arenas for internal warfare.

Suswam declared it necessary to step aside, wishing the party well in its quest to resolve its internal contradictions.

He urged the ward chairman to accept his resignation and convey his appreciation to party members for their shared journey.

Suswam’s future plans remain uncertain, particularly ahead of the 2027 general election, with speculation surrounding his potential interest in the Benue North East senatorial seat he previously occupied.

  • Lagos to enforce mandatory waste sorting

Lagos to enforce mandatory waste sorting

The Lagos State Government says it will soon make waste sorting at source mandatory to modernise waste management and unlock its economic value.

The Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this while featuring on The Conversation , a flagship programme on LTV.

Gbadegesin said the initiative, which aligned with global best practices, would be supported by a review of the state’s legal framework to provide regulatory backing for compulsory waste separation at the point of generation.

He explained that the policy marked a shift from viewing waste solely as a disposal challenge to recognising it as an economic resource, in line with the state’s waste-to-wealth agenda.

According to him, the new direction aligns with Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of transitioning from a landfill-dependent system to one focused on recycling and material recovery.

Gbadegesin said the strategy would reduce pressure on landfills, promote circular economy practices and attract private investment in recycling infrastructure.

He added that the government was considering support mechanisms to help Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators acquire new compactor trucks, citing the capital-intensive nature of waste collection.

On service delivery, the LAWMA boss disclosed that sanctions would be imposed on 22 underperforming PSP operators after repeated warnings and performance reviews.

He recalled that 27 PSP operators were disengaged in 2025 for failing to meet service standards.

Gbadegesin stressed that the success of the initiative depended on effective regulation, improved infrastructure, private sector participation and responsible citizen behaviour.

He described waste sorting at source as critical to achieving a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lagos.
