NAF strikes terrorist hideouts across North East, North West

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has carried out airstrikes on terrorist hideouts, routes, and assembly areas in the North East and North West regions, resulting in heavy casualties among the armed groups.

It said the joint task forces of Operations HADIN KAI and FASAN YAMMA Sector 2 conducted a series of ‘coordinated, intelligence-led operations’ from January 1 to 3 across critical threat corridors in the regions.

NAF’s spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame revealed this in a statement, on Saturday.

According to Ejodame, in the North-East theatre, successive precision strikes were delivered against deeply concealed terrorist enclaves at Abirma and Chiralia within the Timbuktu Triangle, following persistent surveillance that confirmed active facilities linked to improvised explosive device production and attack planning.

He said: “The strikes resulted in the complete destruction of targeted structures, with multiple secondary explosions observed, clear indicators of the elimination of explosive stockpiles and critical logistics.

“Follow-on interdiction operations at Guva in the Mandara Mountains further dismantled terrorist storage and coordination nodes, severely degrading their ability to regroup, resupply, or mount attacks during the festive period and beyond.”

The NAF’s spokesperson said “decisive” airstrikes were conducted simultaneously in the North-West, particularly around Karaduwa Giginya Na in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said terrorists’ movement activities were tracked while moving in large motorcycle convoys and engaged at a forested convergence point.

“Post-strike assessments and corroborated local feedback confirmed the neutralisation of several terrorists, the destruction of multiple motorcycles, and the elimination of assorted weapons,” Ejodame said.

He noted that the sustained multi-theatre strikes underscore the NAF’s “overwhelming airpower presence, rapid strike capability, and unwavering resolve to systematically dismantle terrorist networks.”

In a separate statement, the NAF’s spokesperson said the service has recovered one of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) that went missing on January 2.

Ejodame was deployed on a routine mission within the Operation FASAN YAMMA Sector 3 area, during which it experienced a loss of link.

He said all efforts to restore the link proved abortive.

“Accordingly, in line with established procedures, the crew initiated emergency return-to-base actions, while the NAF immediately activated coordinated response and recovery measures in collaboration with sister Services and relevant authorities.

“The platform has since been contained, with assessment and recovery activities progressing as planned. Relevant technical teams have secured the platform and commenced preliminary evaluations in line with established safety and operational procedures.

“There has been no loss of life, and operational activities across all theatres continue uninterrupted,” he said.

Ejodame reassured the public of NAF’s continued professionalism and operational focus, as counter-insurgency operations proceed unabated in the interest of national security.

  • 974 Nigerians await deportation in Canada

974 Nigerians await deportation in Canada

    …366 deported in 10months in 2025

No fewer than 974 Nigerians are currently awaiting deportation in Canada, according to available data.

They are listed in the country’s “removal-in-progress” queue, indicating that deportation processes have commenced but are yet to be concluded.

Canadian authorities deported 366 Nigerians between January and October 2025. Of this number, about 83 per cent were failed refugee claimants, while criminality accounted for roughly four per cent. Under Canadian law, individuals issued with enforceable removal orders are required to leave the country.

Outside the United Kingdom and the United States, Canada remains a major destination for Nigerians. Records show that more than 71,000 Nigerians acquired Canadian citizenship between 2005 and 2024, with thousands more arriving annually as students, workers and permanent residents.

Data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) indicate that Nigeria is the only African country among the top 10 nationalities deported in 2025, ranking ninth. Nigeria also placed fifth among nationalities currently awaiting removal.

The 2025 figures represent a sharp increase, following Nigeria’s absence from the top 10 deportation list in 2023 and 2024. The data also reflect an eight per cent rise compared with 2019.

Canada is currently implementing an aggressive nationwide enforcement drive, deporting nearly 400 individuals weekly. In the 2024–2025 fiscal year alone, 18,048 foreign nationals were removed at an estimated cost of about $78 million.

Authorities say the intensified push is aimed at tightening immigration targets and easing pressure on housing, employment and border security. The effort is being supported with an additional $30.5 million allocated for removals and $1.3 billion for border enforcement.

Meanwhile, immigration lawyers have warned that deportations could rise further if Bill C-12 is passed, a move that could impose permanent bans on certain categories of refugee claims.

  • Awka community condemns Soludo’s rejection of Bianca Ojukwu’s chieftaincy title

Awka community condemns Soludo’s rejection of Bianca Ojukwu’s chieftaincy title

Concerned sons and daughters of Awka Ancient Kingdom, the capital of Anambra State, alongside advocates of Igbo cultural heritage, have strongly criticised the Anambra State Government for dismissing a chieftaincy title conferred on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

The group rejected what it described as unwarranted interference by the state government in the conferment of the revered title Anyanwu N’Awalu Ora (Light of the Community) on the widow of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Ikemba Nnewi.

The chieftaincy title was bestowed late last year by His Imperial Majesty, Obi Dr. Austin Chukwuezugo Ndigwe, MON, JP, Ezeuzu III of Awka, in recognition of Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s contributions to Ndigbo and to Nigeria at large.

However, the Anambra State Government subsequently disclaimed the conferment, branding it “fake” on the grounds that the traditional ruler who conferred it was an “impostor.”

In response, the Awka community described the government’s action as an affront to their cultural autonomy and an unacceptable intrusion into matters exclusively within the purview of the Awka people. In a statement issued by Professor Emmanuel Obi on behalf of Awka sons and daughters, and in solidarity with Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe, Ezeuzu III, the group said the attack on Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu and the traditional institution was unjustified and dangerous.

“The traditions, customs, and cultural practices of Awka are not subject to the whims of state bureaucracy or political expediency,” the statement said. “They are sacred elements of our identity, handed down through generations, and they remain the exclusive domain of the indigenous sons and daughters of Awka. It is the Awka people who possess the authority to select, crown, and affirm our leaders in accordance with our ancestral laws.”

The group explained that Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe was unanimously elected and crowned Ezeuzu III by the Oha Awka (Council of Elders), the Ndichie (titled men), and the wider community following extensive consultations, rituals, and traditional affirmations. “Any attempt by the state government to describe this leadership as ‘unrecognised’ or ‘fake’ is an insult to our autonomy and sets a dangerous precedent that undermines Igbo traditional governance,” the statement added.

The group further described the conferment of the title on Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu as both appropriate and deserving, noting her status as a prominent daughter of Igboland, widow of the Ikemba Ndigbo, and a national figure of service and dignity. “As Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, she continues to project Anambra State and Igboland on the national and international stage,” the statement said. “The title Anyanwu N’Awalu Ora was conferred during a public ceremonial event in Awka, witnessed by multitudes, and it carries the full cultural legitimacy of our people. To discredit it is to undermine the very essence of Awka’s cultural sovereignty.”

The group reminded the state government that traditional rulership in Igboland predates colonial and post-colonial governance structures and does not derive its legitimacy from modern political appointments or administrative recognition.

“The role of government should be to protect and support traditional institutions, not to interfere in them for partisan reasons or to settle ongoing disputes,” the statement warned. “History shows that such interference breeds division and weakens communal harmony.”

The Awka community called on Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his administration to retract any statements or actions discrediting the chieftaincy title and to respect the decisions of the Awka people. “The unanimous crowning of Ezeuzu III stands as a testament to our unity, and no external force can overturn it,” the statement concluded. “Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s title remains valid, honoured, and celebrated by those who truly understand and cherish our traditions.”

Bello seeks support for Tinubu as Kogi APC kicks off e-registration

In compliance with the directives of the National headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Kogi State chapter of the party has begun its electronic membership registration .

The exercise was kicked off by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello, was electronically registered at his Agasa Ward in Okene Local Government Area, at an event that attracted a large turnout of loyalists, including the Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Bello.

Speaking shortly after his registration, Yahaya Bello described the exercise as timely and commendable.

He  noted that it would strengthen internal party cohesion and improve direct engagement between the party and its members.

He described the APC as a party for all Nigerians and hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ‘ongoing efforts to reposition the country for sustainable growth and development.’

Bello applauded the President’s resolve to make Nigeria globally competitive, particularly in the areas of economic development and human capital advancement.

Urging party members to participate actively in the e-membership registration , Bello explained that the initiative would directly connect registered members to government interventions and empowerment programmes under the Renewed Hope administration of President Tinubu.

“Let me commend everyone for turning out for this exercise today. I want to assure you that our leader and President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has good plans for the people of this great nation and he will continue to do more for the people.

The requirement of the National Identification Number (NIN) in the e-registration process shows that members are directly linked to the party leadership and can be reached without intermediaries for empowerment and other benefits.

I urge you to encourage members of your families to participate in this exercise,” he said.

Bello  urged members to take forthcoming elections seriously, reiterating that the APC remains the dominant political party in Kogi State. He called on the people to sustain the party’s political fortune by voting APC candidates at all levels in future elections.

He acknowledged that development often comes with challenges, urging Nigerians to be patient and to continue supporting the President’s reform agenda, which he described as well-intentioned and focused on long-term national progress.

Venezuelan President, wife captured after  U.S. airstrikes, says Trump

United States President Donald Trump has announced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been captured following U.S. airstrikes on Venezuelan territory, making the claim in a statement posted on his Truth Social page.

In the post, Trump said the United States had “successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader,” adding that Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country. He said the operation was conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement agencies and promised further details at a news conference scheduled for later in the day at his Mar a Lago residence.

The White House did not immediately issue a formal statement beyond the social media post, while the Pentagon confirmed that U.S. forces had carried out air operations targeting what it described as strategic locations linked to the Venezuelan leadership.

Venezuelan authorities acknowledged that airstrikes had hit a government facility near Caracas in the early hours of Saturday but disputed elements of the U.S. account.

In a brief broadcast, state media said the attack caused casualties and damage to infrastructure, while officials said clarification was still being sought regarding the status of senior government figures.

The airstrikes followed months of heightened U.S. military activity in the Caribbean and northern South America. In recent weeks, Washington had expanded naval patrols and aerial surveillance, citing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking routes allegedly linked to Venezuelan networks.

U.S. Southern Command announced multiple seizures of vessels it said were transporting narcotics, with American officials accusing elements within the Venezuelan state of providing protection for organised crime.

Sanctions targeting Venezuelan military officials and shipping interests were also tightened, while joint maritime operations with regional allies were stepped up. U.S. officials repeatedly warned that stronger action would follow if Caracas continued to pose what Washington described as a security threat.

  • Mary Lazarus encourages Moyo Lawal amid leaked tape fallout

Actress Mary Lazarus has offered words of encouragement to her colleague, Moyo Lawal, following an emotional video in which Lawal addressed a leaked intimate tape involving her former partner.

In a post shared on Instagram, Lazarus assured Lawal that she is not condemned and should not be weighed down by regret over past events.

She reminded the actress that the past should serve only as a point of reference, not a place to remain, urging her to rise above the pain and move forward with grace.

Lazarus also shared Bible verses aimed at providing comfort, strength and hope during the difficult period.

Lawal had earlier spoken publicly about the leaked tape, stating that she was “flipping the switch” and choosing to embrace a new chapter in her life.

She wrote, “My dear @moyolawalofficial. I have said this to you in private and will say it in public as well. And this is also for anyone who finds themselves in this kind of situation. I’m using a few scriptures that have helped shape my own life.

“I want you to know this fast. You aren’t condemned. The Bible says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

What has happened does not define you, and it doesn’t reduce your worth in any way.

“Jesus himself said, “He who is without sin should cast the first stone (John 8:7). We all have a past; we all have moments we wish we could undo.

Anyone pointing fingers has forgotten that everyone has their own struggles, even the ones they hide so well.

“Please don’t live in regret. Life is too short to be trapped by yesterday. Learn from it, grow from it, and leave it behind. The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence. The Bible reminds us that “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” ( Proverbs 17:22). Don’t allow this pain to crush your spirit. Guard your heart. Healing is your portion. And never forget this promise: “For I know the plans I have for you, “says the Lord.

“Plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and an expected end”. (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s plans for you are still intact. This moment cannot cancel His purpose over your life. It is okay to acknowledge the mistake. It is okay to learn from it. But please don’t dwell there. Rise, move forward and walk in grace. You are deeply loved. Here’s to a great year ahead. Cheers to 2026. A year of healing, restoration, joy, and new beginnings. Happy Birthday, ML Bugatti”.
